So basically the Republicans want to encourage families to have more kids (and penalize them if they don't). Probably a good way to offset all the labor we will be losing due to their immigration policies.

The difference in personal exemptions is a lot smaller if you don't have kids.

Upper middle class HENRYs with 4 or 5 kids seem to be the real losers here. People with modest incomes and 0-2 kids should save quite a bit.

You gotta explain that to me. I thought the personal exemption was a set amount per person. Why would it matter if you have kids or not?

Based on information ITT, HENRY's with 5 kids would get an extra $2,500 to take home. You're saying their effective tax rate goes up enough to negate that?

Personal exemptions would go away, so people with 5 kids wouldn't get $20k in exemptions for them anymore. Increasing the child tax credit is a really good deal for poor people with lots of kids, because they are already not paying taxes anyway. Tacking on $20k to the 35% tax bracket adds $7000 to your bill while the extra $500 per kid only removes $2500.

The Big 6 plan would also increase the child tax credit by $500 each, resulting in a net tax reduction for that family of $722. Oops, Senator Bob Casey.
Don't personal exemptions go away though?

Btw tax breaks for having more kids is effing stupid. Cap it at 2 or something..want to have 15 kids...go for it...but you don't get to keep whacking off taxes because you can't keep it in your pants.

Got it, so effective tax rate does increase especially if your income puts you toward the top of the bracket.  Love tax talk, we need a new thread for this.

It kind of looks that way, but to be fair, I don't think we have income ranges for the new proposed tax brackets yet. It's a little too early to tell.

Dear Poors,

The child tax credit phases out way before you get to the 35% marginal bracket.

If you took the derivative of that line, it would switch from positive to negative around 2025

I mean, it looks like a projection of the world population growth.  I'm assuming up to a certain point is based on historical data, but the rest is obviously a prediction.  You cannot talk about a future projected dip in population as if it is evidence of an eventual decline.

Show me an equation and I’ll prove you wrong.  Just from a spot check I can tell you the tangent line from 2025 is not decreasing it’s angle.   math

Why are we worried about taxes anyways?  The stock market is rising so gov't will be just fine!
