shocking, the gun nut is against charity as well.

trying too hard to be edgy.

where in any of that do you read "anti-charity"?

Government is a horrible charity. Taking away tax-exempt status for churches and other worthy  non-profits only means you must forcibly donate more to government to provide needed services to the poor. Dumbest idea ever.
If you'll notice, I wrote - no one should be exempt until EVERYONE is exempt.
I'm more in favor of cutting spending & Taxes - why is it necessary for government to facilitate all of these services?  And I'm not talking cutting roads/bridges/police - there's a crap load of spending that goes on beyond that.

I was speaking to the anti-church crowd drooling over the prospect of churches paying taxes rather than helping the local poor. I don't even go to church (just isn't my thing), but I donate to one in particular because I see first hand the good they do and know that nearly 100% of the money goes directly to those that need it. Just more proof that the big government crowd is clueless about how taxes are spent. Charity should be left to the citizenry.

I don't think we're in disagreement - I apparently didn't write clearly enough for people to understand.  If everyone can't be tax exempt, no one should be.  Private organizations that are for profit do just as much good for their community - just as thousands of non-profit organizations don't do crap.

Curious what you mean by a for-profit doing good for the community. Wouldn't they use any charitable contributions as a tax deduction? As I said, non-profits need to be audited on a regular basis.

I'm sure they do use it as a charity deduction - But the important part of what I was writing was non-profit's that don't do crap to help anyone - they exist as an entity to do nothing but supply jobs - Goodwill comes to mind.  Why should they get tax exemption?  Because they're a big recycling company?  Are trash and recycling services able to qualify for tax exemption as a charity?  No.

Until they're all tax exempt - they should all pay taxes.

I guess I really don't understand what the origin for tax-exemptions is.  I understand that many charitable organizations would have a difficult time doing what they do without it according to their current method of operating, but I don't get why it came about in the first place.  Also, it is an absolute joke that the NCAA and NFL have tax-exempt status.  I mean, wtf?

Goodwill does more than provide jobs for the people that work directly for them by selling donated clothes.

Bad example.

I agree the the rules are probably a little lax, but that's the governments problem, not the neighborhood church helping a local homeless family get back on their feet. To penalize them because our government is full of greedy morons is the wrong direction to go.

They sell them at a premium price - these are not discounted items.  Much of their "donations" also end up in the trash.  It's an excellent example and you aren't paying attention if you think it isn't.  It's no different than a company that collects recyclables.

I agree entirely - I'm trying to solve this problem with conservative principles discussed in liberal terminology.  I'm failing miserably because the only ones taking the bait are people I agree with.  :dunno:

Have you ever been "in" a good will?  People that can afford to buy stuff in there can afford to clothe themselves with clearance racks at kohls - all it does is employ people that need a job.  Dillon's does just as much.

WTF, you don't know what goodwill is then. It not about getting stuff (they take more than cloths) and selling them to the needy. The selling part IS there fund raising effort dumbass. They use that money then to help people with the programs outlined before. Its about raising money and giving it out.

I would think most recycling places would be tax exempt. Is that not the case?

The only way to get these bastards off the front page is to get rid of there money. If they don't have the resources to travel the less they can spread there hate.

People need to stop using services provided by there followers. Especially there family law firm.
