I know you guys are a basketball school first and foremost so I thought I’d try and get a little hoops talk going.  I’ve never understood this cheer of yours.  Could someone please enlighten me.  What is a “Jayhawk” any way?

historically, "jayhawk" was the term for the inmates of the midwest territory's first juvenile correctional facility, located in Fort Hawketon. It was common for juvenile deliquent prisoners who drew the ire of the guards to be restrained and thrashed with rock-filled socks.

That is the origin of both the term Jayhawk and our famous rockem sockem chant.
