Kansas State Football / Re: Big 12 Championship Game Thread
« on: December 05, 2022, 12:15:25 PM »
Is there any argument against that being the greatest win/game in 'Cats football history?

Yeah. I think I'd still rate the '03 championship game higher because of the historical significance and sheer dominance.

There is but it would be kind of nit picking and a lively discussion. 1993 Copper Bowl, 2000 KSU/Neb snow game, 2001 KSU/TN Cotton Bowl (01/01/01), 2003 Dr Pepper Championship and now this gem. Slowly building a legacy comparable to anyone else but we will never, never again be considered in any conversation of being among, if not the worst college football programs in the history of the sport. We've come a very long way and should rightfully be proud of what and who we are.

Let's take the next step and kill the elephant!!!

If you don't want to run through a wall for him after that speech you don't want to be there.

Sent from my SM-S906U1 using Tapatalk

Its always been about Dion. No one else. Those kids are smart enough to do a little research and once they figure out (a) that he didn't like to hit, (b) didn't like to practice and (c) always, always, always made it about him, regardless of the team, they won't run through walls for him, unless there's one between them and the nearest portal.

No gems
It takes such a long time and I was having too much fun just reading everything on Saturday night.  Yesterday had other crap going on.

I did see a really weird post on the Slant where some EMAJ’r took a picture inside the men’s bathroom of the row of urinals and put emojis over the (ostensibly strangers’) exposed, urinating deals.  Don’t really know what to make of that.

 :sdeek:
it was incredibly bizarre.  just a selfie of himself lined up at the urinal, with others also at the urinal, and emojis over faces and dicks.

Dickless, faceless and clueless. Pretty much sums it up for them. Does anyone really wonder how they ended up at that school.

Sugar is just for fun. Big 12 title is what I want.

No one even knows or cares that we demolished LSU in last year’s game.

In large part because the LSU team we beat last year was a pick-up squad with an interim coach that no one paid attention to because the "real" coach and the "real" players weren't the ones we played against.

Beating Nick Saban and his inexhaustible supply of NFL prospects would be totally different.

the dr pepper is infinitely more important than the sugar bowl or any other exhibition game we might play in.

100%

We may consider it an exhibition game but the national media (aka ESPN), recruits and most people would consider us beating Alabama, even one where most of their NFL "projects" opt out, as much more impressive than winning the Big XII Championship, for the same reasons; TCU isn't OSU, UM (Michigan not Miami), Alabama, Georgia or most other SEC schools. You probably don't agree. So be it but IMO beating Alabama, even a reasonably depleted one, would be much more impressive, again to most pundits and recruits, than beating a TCU that had the year of their lifetime.

6
You're not wrong except I believe the sugar bowl is contractually obligated to take the second best record if #1 is in the playoffs.

Won't be the first time that a contract was ignored when it was KSU vice someone with a bigger/wealthier fanbase (see 1998).

As it always is, we have to win out. Then they have absolutely no choice.

7
While I'm as excited as the next person about our potential and bowl possibilities, I've seen on prediction already that has UT in the Sugar Bowl with KSU headed to the Cheez-it Bowl in Orlando, Fla.

Trust me, some of the media may purport to "love" us right now but, even if we win the next two but not the Championship, they wouldn't waste one minute picking UT over us, regardless of record and standing, to go to a more presitious bowl game.

It's all about the economics and unfortunately, we don't have one of the country's largest endowments and our alumni wealth and subsequent influence, pales in comparison as well.

IMO but based on previous experience, we have to win the next three games IOT even get a whiff at a New Years Six bowl game.

8
Look at us getting top billing.

I think it might be the first ever saturday night game edition of the sunflower showdown
2004 in Lawrence was a night game. I remember, because it was depressing. Also, 2010 too. The juke game. That might have been a Thursday night game tho.

2004 was the last one you are right.  2010 was a Thursday night game.

Not sure of the year but it should have been the early '80s when KSU wore the alternate uniforms for the first time (mauve jerseys). That game was a Sat night under temporary lights. I believe the first "night" KSU/the other KS team was in 1947. Don't know how they pulled that off but apparently they did.

Urban's a slime ball. He's had two of the absolute best HC jobs in the NCAA and quit on both of them. Every Aaron Hernandez wannabe would be flocking to Lincoln and Urban would be waiting there for them with open arms and checkbook.

But maybe they deserve each other. I want them to be successful about as much as i want the POS school east of us to be successful.

Matt Campbell can do better but I do agree that he may have overplayed his stay in Ames. Probably should have left a couple of years ago.

I refuse to believe the Taliban is stupid enough to mess with any US Citizens trying to get out.

It’s the handful of Afghans who bought into our message that I’m worried about. I hope we have a plan for them.

We left, totally and without warning to the Afghan government or military. Now we're rapidly approaching 10K service members being back in (not deployed to but on the ground) AFG just to clean up our Embassy personnel, their families and those Afghans that worked for us or NATO and can get to HKIA (Hamid Karzai International Airport) before the Taliban come knocking on their front door and you "hope" there's a plan?

There never was one in the first place. Not since Oct 2001 and up through today.

The plan was to kill UBL (we did eventually). That was it. Everything afterwards was done by the seat of our pants and 20 years later, we're still wearing that same set of worn out pants.
Can somebody help me explain to me how we go from 6000 troops to zero troops when the evacuation is done or the Taliban blocks anyone else from leaving? How do the last 50 troops getting on the last transport leaving Kabul not get mobbed by a desperate crowd trying to board the plane?

Because that would, like, MAJORLY piss us off.

Oh yeah, don't piss Joe off. He might get mad, draw a red line and say if you cross it, he'll get even madder (to the point of being majorly pissed off). Remember he learned that from his boss. His boss drew a red line in the Syrian desert and look, we're still in Syria almost ten years later. Just like Afghanistan, we went to kill a bad guy, accomplished that and then proceeded to stick around to see what else we might accomplish.

And you people say we're incapable of learning anything!

I'm hoping for Orlando/WCB. We're already in Tx, probably not going to get much better getting "quality" Tx kids to commit, let alone come to KSU and we'd potentially get a lot of exposure in the I-4 corridor of Orlando, Tampa, Sarasota and the HS's in between. Particularly given the current disarray in Fla FBS schools - 1/2-ass U (aka FSU) dumpster fire, USF dumping Chuckie, Miami having Diaz regret and UCF coming back to earth (somewhat) under Josh.

They will hire an FCS coach after watching us this year.

This.  You can bet your farm on it.

Craig Boles. Already been FCS but now has "established" cred at the FBS level. Go for it!

Sticking with the retreads scenario though, UCLA or USC future former HC would be a great fit. Probably relatively cheap too, considering just how many HC's they're still paying to not coach.

Prime Slime and Half Ass U deserve each other.

He could get Andre Rison to be DC and Ryan Leaf as OC

Guaranteed NC!

It doesn't matter what the dumb-as-sh*t Dems in the House do, try to do or just f*cking flail around trying to figure out what to do, they'll never get the 20 GOP Sens to go along with their sorry a** excuse of a coup and actually convict a sitting President.

The House is pissing up the proverbial rope and it's gonna cost the stupid f*ckers dearly. Nancy knows this and she's desperately trying to figure out if she can get enough deck chairs to the other side of the Titanic and prevent it from actually sinking like a stone.

As long as we have almost statistical full employment, record low unemployment (or employment, depending on how you want to look at it) for blacks, Asians, latinos and almost any other minority, inflation remains low, wages keep increasing and we're not engaged in and in-fact have disengaged from the endless "wars", the Democrats don't stand a chance in Hell of winning. Particularly on a platform that wants an incredibly huge takeover of the private sector by the Federal Government.

Once the GOP starts hammering at what the Dems "Medicare for All" will actually cost to the average American, given that most, if not all of the above remains true and if the Democrats in Congress persist in the nonsensical impeachment process, they'll not only lose the WH but Congress as well.

For a long time to come as well. It'd be damn good riddance to.

If you're looking for a great burger and an ice cold beer before or after the game, I recommend Johnny's West. I've know the owner for a very long time and while he obviously made the totally wrong school choice, he acts like he actually went to KSU and is a good guy. Besides, it's on the west side of campus/town and pretty much outside the general stench that emanates from downtown Larryville and that POS excuse of a campus/stadium.

i mean i know you really want to lay all of this at the feet of Obama but I fail to see how supporting the overthrow of a Baathist dictator be a departure from US policy

in fact just reinforces the fact that Obama was a pub

Overthrowing the Asad/Baathist regime in SYR is not really the issue or the primary criticism of former Pres Obama. Changing the mission after you've both approved the plan and deployed the force is. We tasked the U.S. military (and the CIA prior to that) with creating an anti-Asad force. We then changed the endgame to not overthrowing the regime but "defeating" ISIL and subsequently ISIS. Nobody asked, after we'd created the SDF to do that, what happens after? We knew no one, Turkey, Syria, Iraq or Iran, would allow the Kurds to become more independent that they already were. We also knew that Turkey, as they had in the past, would react militarily and physically to any real or perceived movement by the Kurds (aka to them at least, the PKK) that threatened Turkish security.

IMO, we need to tell both Turkey and Iraq that they now "own" the ISIS problem if it resurrects itself. Turkey decided to stir things up in Syria and Iraq can't seem to get beyond internal strife between Shia and Sunni and focus on what actually threatens their country. The Kurds do not threaten our national security and never will and while ISIS 2.0 may, it should now become and Arab problem to solve. Similar to what Saudi Arabia and the Emirates did once they decided that the Houthis in Yemen threatened them and the region.

We can and should support them with arms, equipment, INTEL and other support but they need to do away with this problem themselves. If not, maybe we need to negotiate with whoever wins, before they win, so that our actual national interests (and the rest of the world's) are protected. You may not like him or believe it IMO, Pres Trump sees things similarly.

is 20% the proper % for a tip?

I usually give them singles one at a time until I'm done with them.

You mean they keep taking your cheap a*s singles until they're done with you (otherwise known as finding someone not as cheap)!

We've never won without a Snyder at the helm. That's a fact.

That's not saying much. More a statement on just how badly we sucked pre=Snyder.

I would suggest that another way to state it would be "we've never won with what a Snyder left us"!

Personally, I don't give a eff what many of you are saying.

HOFHCBS and " Lite Shawn" have spent several years wrecking KSU football.  :billdance: was creating a situation where Sonny Boy would take over and any body whose ass wasn't encasing his head knew that wasn't going to work.

HCCK and his staff are having to rebuild a complete program. Don't like the truth? Get on your rough ridin' horse and ride east.

Exactly!

23
there is absolutely no denying that the klieman era has been an unmitigated disaster.  when does it end?

sean snyder is the so of our homegrown legend and knows what it takes to win at ksu.  I guarantee you that he would have melded this team out of iron.  we would and should be undefeated had the mustang done his damn job and made the correct hire

It'll end when most, if not all, of the previous regime's "athletes" are not longer playing or eligible and the new "regime" has brought in their own recruits. That includes actually going out and recruiting and filling all your scholarships.

If we still stink after that, I'll totally agree with you and anyone else (almost) but as long as we're playing with what was left to him, I'm not giving up. We've been on a very steady decline, talent-wise at least, for the last several years and this year may just be the proverbial rock-bottom.

24
I think Turkey would back down without going to war with us if we were to stop them from bombing the Kurds.

Just how are we going to "stop" them? By saying "Please" before we ask or are we're going to bomb the sh*t out of them if they don't? Oh I get it, we'll put sanctions on them. That'll do it. Can you say "hello Pres. Putin"?

Turkey knows we're not going to stop them. Wouldn't matter if it was the current President, the previous President or any of them prior to us getting the Turks to allow us to store nuclear weapons on their soil. We need them way more than we need the Kurds.

Have we learned nothing from the last 18 years? Arabs, Afghans, Kurds, Baluch, most Persians and generally any Middle East, South/South Central Asian muslim will be our friend if and when they need us. The Kurds will get mad but those that survive will be our friends again if they need us and we need them.

Everybody wants new fancy uniforms. They say it will draw recruits and be a fresh start. It will add excitement. Then they don’t win games and nobody gives two cents about their new fancy uniforms. Winning, good coaches, and tradition draws recruits not new uniforms. If you want proof look no further than Bama. Let’s worry about the only relevant and important thing in football - winning games.

Not that I'm against those sweet new uniforms, but this guy^^^ isn't wrong.

recruits and players have all been pretty consistent in saying they love new uniforms grandpa.  if alabama broke out a new uniform their players would go nuts, and it wouldn't turn them into a crap program.  these same dumbasses said our new facilities would make our players entitled and soft.

tl:dnr - dumbasses are gonna dumbass

I'm sure they do love them, and I don't really have an issue with them either. My point, as was the original commentor's, was that uniforms have no bearing upon the success of the program, which I believe is true.

it's marketing and making players happy and marketing and happy players can help win football games. Plus it's really low lift marketing and making players happy. Like Klieman didn't have to do crap but say "sure lets get some new helmets" and then go back to watching film or whatever. The reason people don't like it is because it makes old white people uncomfortable when they see young black people having fun, even when it's related to a dumb game they don't get paid to play.

Also my membership to Wildcat Salute is pending :curse:

At best you're an idiot. At worst a racist (which I know is pretty much synonymous to being an idiot so I guess you're without a doubt an idiot).
