TITLETOWN - A Decade Long Celebration Of The Greatest Achievement In College Athletics History => Kansas State Football => Topic started by: troubledscribe on November 04, 2017, 07:08:39 PM

Delton played decent today, however once again he should have had another 2 interceptions plus the one that was tipped.
As far as running goes? Maybe he has a bit more overall speed and wiggle than Skylar but he obviously isn't very durable in our battering ram offense.
Skylar has by far the most touch on his passes and seems to be able to check down receivers well. I don't think Delton would have won this game for us and I can't remember the last time we've had a qb put together a comeback and winning drive like this.

Why do you do this stuff man? These dudes are sacrificing their bodies for Kansas State football. Just rough ridin' enjoy the win and these dudes without tearing them down.
Shitting on Delton is absolutely ridiculous, especially given how he played today.
-
Delton has had two concussions in two weeks. Successive concussions like that are very dangerous. He is likely out for the year.

Delton’s biggest weakness is his height. If he doesn’t have a clear throwing lane, he either floats a pass or gets it batted down. Nothing against him, just genetics.
-
Delton played great I'm not shitting on him. I'm being realistic, you want to win big games and have a legit program you go with Skylar. You want to be a middle of the road, one dimensional big 12 team then keeping switching back and forth between Skylar and Delton like Waters and Sams and waste everyone's time. It's an obvious choice.

Do you know why they switched? Delton left both games with the lead. How in the hell is it his fault we ran five plays in the third quarter?

What are you getting at?
-
Not what I was saying, and asinine way to interpret it. My point is Delton has had concussions from two helmet to helmet blows -- and the first one wasn't even called. They would have sidelined anyone. Everything we know about concussion tells us Delton is in a fragile condition right now. I hope he doesn't see the field for the rest of the season.
I thought Delton played well today and coaches provided him pass plays he could have success with.
-
I do agree a choice will need time be made, but that's for next year. Currently, you play the guy who won the job if they are healthy. IMO Delton has not done anything or played poorly enough to lose the job if he is healthy. I was very impressed with how the offense played in the 4th quarter, but that 3rd quarter was absolutely terrible. Granted part of that was the dumb illegal touching penalty.

Yeah I think you're a bit naive if you're convinced Skylar can take us places Delton can't. Skylar certainly hasn't made any throws Delton hasn't shown he can make, and he hasn't faced the level of the competition that Delton has.
Both could lead very fine teams, and both could lead pretty meh teams depending on who they have around then.

Agree with this.
I'm fine with a QB controversy
-
I do think bringing up the number of tipped balls by Delton is a legit point. I don't recall a tipped ball at the LOS from Sky.
-
I am tired of seeing QB’s used as battering rams, who aren’t big guys.
-

I don't remember many from Delton before today either
-
Do we have a hall of fame coach who loves having the reputation as a guy who schemes to his talent? Isn’t that what we are supposed to have? For the life of me I cannot understand the logic of piss pounding your skinny guys when the position has depth issues.
-
Tipped balls is definitely a coachable thing. I think Delton is a good QB, I’m just still all in on Sky because I think he is at least at the same level and has more years to go.

Remember when you tweeted that Ertz was a bad choice as starting QB?
-
IMO we havn't really seen enough of either Delton or Skylar to really say which is better, other than 'first impression' quality opinions.
Both have played well in general and, were it not for the coaching staff putting Ertz back in at the end of the Texas game, it's entirely likely that both would have put together come back wins, although that's pure speculation of course.
As it stands now, Skylar at least seems to have a bit more presence in the pocket and he also makes it look a lot easier.
Delton tends to look like how I'd feel if 'I' were the one out there (that is to say, looking occasionally lost, stressed to eff out and wondering who to hell thought it was a good idea to put me in).
Delton has less eligibility but can be an excellent runner, although his physical limitations clearly impact his passing ability. He clearly makes a good #2. Skylar has more eligibility and his passes don't look like skeet flying out there to be picked off but not as good of a runner. I'd prefer personally to see him the starter unless/until Ertz comes back.
But what do I know, I'm a loudmouthed idiot. I'm just happy to see a come back win, and in a game I really didn't expect to see any type of win.

One thing that should be said: Sky has still never started a game, which means he has never had an entire week to prep with the first team.

Looks like that's likely to change this coming week.
-
I sure hope we don't abuse Skylar like we do Ertz and Delton; 4th string probably is not that good. With possibly two concussions in two weeks, Delton may be out for quite awhile. I honestly cannot believe he was allowed to come back in after his head was nearly knocked off today.
-
Delton was clearly the better QB. Skylar holds on to the ball too long.
-
I thought both QB's played well in spite of the shitieness that was our OL yesterday.
-
Skylar holds on to the ball too long.
Along with literally every QB making their first start in our system.
-
I don’t like phrasing this in terms of a real QB competition. Delton and Sky are both good, but especially with what we saw yesterday I hate the idea of not seeing Sky again until he’s a senior.
But more importantly, after two concussions in two games Delton needs to seriously think about his future as a KSU QB. If he sees the field against OSU you can bet they’re going to come after him like TTU did.
-
I thought both played well and it sucks that Delton got another concussion. I? would be pretty upset if I finally got a shot and got back to back concussions.
-

I'm not sure we watched the same game.

Parents of both QB’s need to threaten transfer if this staff doesn’t quit getting the QB’s killed.
-
I agree. If you don't like the way you are being treated, leave. Pretty simple.
-
His 2nd head hit was on a rollout pass play caused by a dirty ass hit. That would happen at USC, Baylor, Oregon etc.
Lots of colleges rely on the QB designed run game that maybe you can blame bill for making it popular but you can't blame him for it being used. It sure isn't just ksu's
-
There is a pretty finite number of NFL bound 6'4" rocket armed pocket passers available to ksu. Even more limited is at least 2 5* receivers to go with him
-
Everyone realizes as soon as Ertz can run without a limp, he's starting, right?
-

There are now two player parents on KSO saying he shouldn't have played yesterday.

If that is true, Alex should have put on his big boy pants and not suited up.
-

You can't possibly think that's how it works. It is up to the coaches and medical staff to protect players from themselves and the culture of football. This is true for pros and it's damn true for amateurs. Football has a culture that doesn't even allow Tom Brady to pull himself with a concussion and you expect a guy who's spent his entire time in college as a back up to pull himself? Come on sdk.
-

Of course there is pressure for him to play. Of course Bill and KSU benefit from pressuring players to play. That is mumped and I am not a fan of that at all.
Alex, alone, is able to make a decision about his long term health and life. If he believes risking brain injuries (knee injuries for Jesse, etc) by suiting up for QB at KSU is something he wants to do. That is on him. Same is true for Jesse. Same is true for CK. Etc.
Old enough to vote, old enough to die, old enough to decide whether risking injury to play a game is what he wants to do.

You should take a lap. You obviously have no understanding of the culture of college football if you think Delton can take himself out for fear of possible injury.
-
delton should be shelved for the year after two concussions in a row. ertz is done. so we're riding with skylar from here on out. don't even know who the 4th string guy is. probably just a RB actually.
-
It's about that time of year when we find out that some wide receiver is the most adequate QB of them all.

yeah i'm excited to see barnes/pringle qb combo
-
I agree with all of the complaints about our staff abusing our QB's. Not only are they expected to throw the ball, but run it too! And sometimes a lot. When they run they are getting hit in the head sometimes....inexcusable. We also need to take a hard look at how this staff is abusing our running backs. They too are expected to run the ball...sometimes a lot...and they are also getting hit in the head. Even more inexcusable is the way this staff is using the defensive players, particularly the linebackers (except Kirby) who are often times hitting other players and sometimes hitting them hard! Kirby is the only player clearly not being asked to sacrifice his body. He's the only player without a justifiable complaint/lawsuit.

Our 4th stringer is some hick walk on from the middle of nowhere Kansas. So I'm sure he's amazing.

Whatever, not attempting to argue against your opinion. Research is pretty clear about the likelihood of follow up concussions when the concussed isn't fully recovered. None of us have any clear idea how well he was after the KU game but I do think it's noteworthy that some people around the program don't see it the same way that the coaches do. Not the first time this staff has been accused of mishandling concussions.

We should run more Wildcat to reduce the chance of QBs getting sghettid. Seems like a reasonable way to alleviate some of the beating.

The play calling and o-line aren't doing this kid any favors. I'm no highly paid D1 offensive coordinator, but if I have a redshirt freshman starting the first game of his collegiate career against a better opponent I would probably call some quick slants to build his confidence before I asked him to go deep. And I'd expect my o-line to not suck so much.

WR open everywhere.

He has happy feet in the pocket and it's pretty clear he was confused with WVU's coverage.

Here's a thought I hadn't considered until today: really, none of our QBs are all that good. :dunno:

It was a pleasure meeting MIR. Thanks for the tiks! That was my nephew's first kstate game. It's sad it had to be this game though.

If you’re honest with yourself, we haven’t had a good qb since Freeman. There have been a few like Klein and Waters that did what was asked of them, but they weren’t good qb’s.

Give me a freaking break. Just because he wasn't a pro doesn't mean Klein wasn't a great college QB. Big 12 offensive player of the year and Heisman runner up. That's more than "doing what was asked of him".

What I'm really disappointed in is the WR corps. I thought this was supposed to be a strength of this team coming in into 2017, but they have largely disappointed across the board.
Every receiver (except Gruntley as far as I know) seems to suffer the fatal disease of Burtonitis. Way too many drops that I could even count. Pringle's dropping everything, and he's probably playing hurt. Heath seems to be just non-existent at all. Strickland appears to be non-existent at all either, and this guy is what, 6'5"?
-
klein was both a good qb and a good football player. knowing every aspect of the system is part of being a qb and klein was a coach on the field. he didn't throw a tight spiral, had a weird release, wasn't cannon-armed. no, he was not nfl qb material. however, he was a good college qb and the guy played his ass off and did everything asked of him.
-
I’m gonna say WVU has a better D than Tech.
But I’m just pissed that Sky couldn’t hit Dimel 30 yards down the field 7 or 8 times.
Oh, DW got stopped on a couple of plays, welp back to the bench and forgotten.

Klein was a phenomenal athlete, acting like his success was entirely based on his playbook knowledge is pretty racist.
