We need to upgrade hitting at either DH or RF.  If we keep aoki, we should ditch Billy

i listened to a podcast about free agent right fielders and now realize is that aoki is the best option available.  did anyone know aoki has the exact same amount of war as melky over the last three years?  but would be way cheaper.

kemp would be a really stupid trade unless you gave up nothing and got something really good to come with.  he's making 20 million plus per year.

The fact that Aoki has the same war as melky, is more of an indictment on war than it is a reflection of who's a better outfielder

This is true, also, Aoki's offensive production was down this year until September. Even then he still was a slap hitter. I'd like a RF with the possibility of a HR or 2.

Hey, Aoki had one. 2 might be asking for a little too much though

Guyz, this was super fun to make.

Steps

 1. Gather up all the newspapers you saved during the playoff run.

2. Save a couple if you want.

3. Cut out your favorite pictures and headlines from the rest.

4. Buy a big ass frame at hobby lobby, they are 50% off until Nov 22nd.

5. Re-live the excitement of the playoff run while you put together a priceless heirloom.

Damnit, we were so close to winning the world series.  So so close.  Will we ever get back?  (<---a thought I have at least twice a day.)

Rumor has it the Royals are interested in Ian Kennedy. If the price is reasonable I would be ok with that.

Quote
9:24pm: A three-year deal is “quite close,” per Bob Nightengale of USA Today (via Twitter). Nightengale tweets that the sides are set to embark upon a three-year pact along the lines of that rumored to be agreed upon per Robert Murray (via Twitter) earlier this evening.

7:59pm: The Athletics are in “serious talks” with free agent designated hitter Billy Butler, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports (via Twitter). As Rosenthal notes, he is confirming a report from Cover Those Bases (Twitter link).

MLBTR’s Steve Adams recently predicted a three-year, $30MM deal for the bat-only Butler, who is coming off a sub-optimal walk year but does hit the market at just 28 years of age. My personal take was that Butler would end up settling for a one-year deal since he is such an inflexible player, though the chatter to date seems to indicate that he will have little difficulty getting a multi-year guarantee.

It is unclear, of course, what the A’s interest means. On the one hand, the club would seem unlikely to commit a significant amount of cash over multiple years, given its tradition

It's insane to me that someone is giving Billy 3 years 30 million. That makes me very  :ohno: about the kind of DH we'll be able to acquire in the offseason if Billy is commanding that kind of cash.

the last game I attended at Rosenblatt before they knocked it down Billy was down in AAA on a rehab assignment. he bombed one into like the elephent exhibit at the zoo. I want more out of my DH though.

he's going to hit so many home runs wearing (ironically, considering steve dave's zoo anecdote) an elephant logo on his uniform

i think it's a good move for bill. the royals preach aggresiveness at the plate and that's not what butler needs to be doing up there. he's a better fit with the A's.

I love the A's uniforms. Big fat slobs are supposed to wear them too. They have a history of it. Great fit!

too bad he didn't fall far enough for the royals to resign him at an attractive price.  unless salaries are way way up this free agent season, i don't think 3/30 is an attractive price.
