rodney does not rough ridin' deserve it, and I really don't think Henson does, either. NO ONE deserves it before Beasley, except Pullen. And that's iffy.

What are your criteria for a player to "deserve it"?

well, you have to have a better career than Steve Henson, that's for sure (Rodney didn't). IMO having the greatest season in KSU history or greatest career in KSU history should be an automatic qualifier to me but what do I know.

That's fair. Last I checked Bob Boozer's jersey is up there...  :gocho:

He was first team All-American twice. How about if you're an All-American your name should be in the rafters?

Everyone up there has graduated and was either a conference PoY or consensus AA.

Maybe he'll come back (or do online KSU courses) and get his actual degree.  Ro did.

If I was a rich retired basketball player, I would absolutely get my degree.  Hell, I'd get a Masters too.  Maybe Beas will, maybe he won't.

(I do think his number should be retired even if he doesn't.)

Completely agree.

Iowa State is the same way.  Marcus Fizer, one of their greatest players of all-time, won't get his jersey retired because he left after his junior year.

How many jerseys sold should be a factor.

Certainly. Beasley was wildly popular, loved manhattan, loves ksu, helped turn around the whole program, said hilarious things in the media, helped make ksu basketball entertaining again, was adorable, was cool, was the best recruit we ever signed and will ever sign... who cares what people think hang a banner and make it huge

What? Why? That makes so sense if you're already rich. Degrees on their own don't mean crap. I have 3 of them and I am using 0 of them in my career. If you want to blow money why wouldn't you just take the money you would have spent on a meaningless degree and just give a high school kid or an undergrad a scholarship so they can have a shot at getting rich themselves? That certainly would be more fulfilling than spending money on a piece of paper that, at that point in your life, has the same value as 1000 shares of Montgomery Ward stock.

I'd buy a giant rough ridin' billboard outside my college basketball arena that shows me and all the other basketball studs (as recognized by gE) have our jerseys retired.  The view from the parking lot would be amazing.

I enjoy learning, that would be my reason.

But it would help to understand how the world works.  Plus it would improve my employability for the rest of my lenghty, post-baller life, if I want to do something other than sell insurance or cars.  Even if I end up selling insurance or cars, or going into coaching (somewhere that doesn't require a degree) -- or moving to a beach in Mexico -- it still improves your quality of life to have your mental horizons widened by taking classes.

And beyond that, let's say I'm "retired" at 28: wouldn't you think going back to college then as a former basketball star would be a blast?  I do.

No. creepy. I couldn't imagine wanting to constantly be around thousands of 18-22 year olds as a rich 28 year old.

I agree that MIR would be just as smart without the education.
