Early Christmas present to myself arrived today.  Look at the massive lugs on these suckers!  Just got some snow on Monday and now sunny the rest of the week.  Should be a primo mix of snow/ice/mud/slop by the weekend to test these out.

I think I'm finally ready to try to improve my speed, rather than just run a million billion miles. Anyone have any good links/plans to improve speed? Will probably run another marathon in January 2019.

That's right. Just mix in some hills and fartleks. You still want 75-80% of your volume to be moderate effort or easier.

If you run four days a week, rotate one run a week between hill repeats and quarter or half mile tempos.

My best 5K times are during the end of a marathon build when I was pushing higher volume tempo runs midweek and long slow weekend runs.

Got a couple good runs in with the new Altras.  Cross post to Vision Quest thread.

Just wanted to brag a little about my 14 yo (8th grade)  son.  He broke the school record in the 3200 this week.  The wind was gusting upto 35 mph but he still ran a 10:38 and lapped the field and all but 2 twice.

 Figured the mods would have done the cross-posting to the Vision Quest thread for me...  What am I actually getting in return for this monthly fee?

Took my first serious spill on the sidewalk in mile 6 of an 8-mile run this weekend. Skinned my hands and knees, but mainly hurt my pride. A guy driving by in a truck stopped to ask if I was okay.

Got up and kept running the last two miles (negative splits ) because #5 Be Tough, #7 Great Effort, and #10 Never Give Up.

I went for a personal best even though I knew I wasn't ready for it and started dropping like a rock throughout the race.  Really over extended myself with races in the past couple of months.

I'll be doing the KC marathon in the fall, St Louis Tough Mudder in August, and might look at the Tinman Triathlon (if I find a place to train on swimming).  Let me know if you're interested in joining me in either of those.
