Maid-Rite vs Nu Way
« on: June 13, 2017, 01:28:20 PM »
“I love Maid-Rite sandwiches,” he said. “Growing up, I would walk instead of take the bus to save my money for those. They were twenty-five cents.”

Has Snyds enjoyed a Nu Way Sandwich on any of his trips to ICT?

What are the differences, if any, between these loose meat sandwiches?

idk.  i think it's like a ground beef taco but without taco seasoning and instead of using a shell, they use a bun and instead of salsa they might use ketchup?

I ate at a Runza once on my way to KC.  Made it almost 3 miles down the road before I almost crap myself.

There used to be a Runza in the Manhattan Town Center and the only time I ate there was a couple of times in the winter when they had a promotion where the price of a runza was determined by the air temperature.  It was barely worth it even on a zero degree day.

There's a place in Colorado (called Smiling Moose) that makes something similar, they load them with banana peps and onions and they smell like straight BO.

When I was a student at K-State I traveled to North Dakota for part of my field school (run jointly by the U of Kansas and U of Missouri).  At many of the restaurants was a local dish known as 'Fleischkuekle' (which I think is German for 'meat purse').  It was basically a bierock but with a hamburger patty in place of the typical bierock filling. #^TheMoreYouKnow

I pounded a couple of nu-ways today.  Chased it down with some of their homemade rootbeer.  Felt some shame, but not enough to keep me from doing it again.

Haven't been to a Nu-Way in 20 years.  Would never eat a sandwich.  Used to git their onion rings (which, at least back then were amaze) and their root beer (they made their own - at least back then).  Would go to the old location on Douglas.  They would serve you RB from glass pitchers in a cooler right on the edge of icing up.  Pretty tasty.
