Cats beat the Pitt Panthers 5-4.
Observations from Kissimmee:
Cats really did not do much at the plate outside two home runs. The first being a 3 run shot by Steve Serratore to put the cats up 3-2 and later was a 2 run shot by Quinton Crandall to put the Cats up 5-4 in the top of the 9th. The Pitt Panther starting pitcher was a big lefty that did a good job, he had a perfect game going through 4 innings and only gave up the 3 run HR.
Pitching for the Cats was Justin Hesket, he battled through 5 innings and have up 7 hits and 2 runs, but made some big pitches to get himself out of jams. Colton Kalmus replaced him and walked two batters on 8 pitches before being yanked in favor of Hudson Treu. Treu gave up 2 runs in 2 innings (only responsible for one, Kalmus responsible for the other). Nick Jones pitched a strong 8th inning and picked up the win. Jordan Floyd, the senior left hander was put in for the save opportunity in the bottom of the 9th. He gave up a double and a walk but struck out the final two batters.
Our Cats really need to work on blocking the plate better, through 2 games, 3 runs have scored from 3rd on past balls.

Cats beat Delaware 7-0
Observations from Kissimmee.
By far the most complete game of the young season by the Cats. Brogan Heinen started and picked up the win, he pitched 5 innings of scoreless baseball giving up 3 hits. Big freshman flamethrower Kasey Ford subbed for Heinen and pitched 2 innings of scoreless baseball, hitting 94 MPH on the gun. Eckberg came and finished off the Blue Hens pitching 2 innings and recording 3 strikeouts.
Offensive standouts were Cam Thompson who went 3 for 3 plus a walk in four at bats, plus made some really nice plays in center (looks to be a special player early on). Quinton Crandall was the other noteable offensive player who had 2 hits with a triple. It was a very solid performance by the Cats all around.

Cats beat Buckeyes 3-2 to take tournament title.
Kstate and Pitt both finished with 3-1 records but Kstate was given the title based on their head to head win over Pitt.
As far as the game. Parker Rigler started for the cats and pitched a real gem for the first 4 innings of the game. The left handed senior ran into trouble in the 5th and gave up 2 runs. Nick Jones replaced Rigler and got the Cats out of the jam which could have been much worse. Jones, a junior right handed submarine thrower has made 3 pitching appearances for the Cats this season and has done a fantastic job in his specialist role of getting us out of innings. In the 6th inning sophmore Mitch Zubradt took the mound and picked up the win by pitching 2 solid scoreless innings before being replace by senior left handed closer Jordan Floyd who recorded the 2 inning save.
Offensively, there were no huge standouts. Jake Wodtke and Cam Thompson each had 2 hit games. All but one position player recorded a hit. Great weekend and start of the season for the Cats, i for one was worried after the first game but it looked like the ball club shook off any jitters they may have had.
Next week cats will take on South Carolina, St. Johns, and Liberty (twice). Liberty  is 2-1 so far in the season having beaten Kansas and the Citadel. St Johns is currently undefeated but are untested, they take on coastal carolina tomorrow. South Carolina took 2 of 3 from UNC Greensboro. I will not be making the trip to South Carolina so you'll have to find your game info somewhere else next week.

Maybe you should pay attention more to baseball. But yes, the Cats havent been great the last few years. Hill was given a contract extension through the 2018 season after he won the big 12 title and led kstate to the best season in school history. IDK about the athletic department's willingness to pay buyouts for baseball.
I hate talking about this cause I know coach Hill and like him.

Beat #4 South Caroline, 6-5. Got to watch most of it on WatchESPN, but look forward to 09emaw's recap.
