saying that funding for highways has a racial connotation seems like an outlandish position, but i'm eager to hear the rationale.

you should read "Color of Law" by Richard Rothstein. https://www.amazon.com/Color-Law-Forgotten-Government-Segregated/dp/1631492853

There's a chapter on how the interstate highway system had a disproportionate negative effect on black neighborhoods. That's without considering the fact that the government subsidized home loans in suburbs that either blatantly banned non-whites or became ineligible for loans if a black family moved in.
i skipped the book but just read a vox article on the subject (https://www.vox.com/2015/5/14/8605917/highways-interstate-cities-history).  at the risk of pitting up this thread, i found the article interesting and learned some new history.

you should still real the book, it's great and pretty quick to get through. And since you can't really discuss Kansas City without eventually touching on systematic racism, I think it's appropriate to this thread!

A great watch on this from some maw heroes:

It looks like turf is rolled up in the east side parking lot right now. Is that the old stuff?

Apparently when the turf was replaced before 2011 season, surfaces were researched for several factors including longevity, player safety, etc., and a recommendation was made to Snyder and he rejected a more durable, safer surface in favor of whatever was in vogue among the big-time programs at the time. Hopefully this edition will be less checker-boardy and sketti-brain/weird knee inducing.

Exactly what you would expect from Kentucky sports radio. The 1st hour for the 3/21 is gold.

Meh, personalities are hard to measure without knowing someone; likewise, a 'competitive' or 'intense' person is hard to measure until you've gone toe-to-toe with someone.  I agree he seems to lose focus at times and needs to take better care of the ball, but that could be just age and time in the game.  If I remember correctly, he has only been playing organized basketball for a handful of years and of course missed all of last year.  I am excited for his potential and really glad that he's stepped into major role after Stokes went down.

Consider some of these freshman stats:
Cartier Diarra: 71 assists and 68 turnovers
Kam Stokes: 57 assists and 44 turnovers
The Flush: 50 assists and 50 turnovers
Wes Westicles: 61 assists and 42 turnovers
Mart Irving: 24 assists and 15 turnovers
Will Spradling: 63 assists and 40 turnovers
Angel Rodriguez: 101 assists and 85 turnovers

Clearly Diarra needs to improve his decision making, but its not like he is massively behind some of our previous ball handlers.

Sprads

^ the announcers let it slip that it was a stress fracture...so pretty doubtful he's back...but yeah it's crazy (wade+stokes+DJamer) ...is there something wrong with the team's shoes?

BITB was blaming the new practice facility floor. Dean had a similar injury freshman year of HS.

:pbj: QBs will learn how to quick kick.  :pbj:

Lotta quick kicks on 3rd down

Can you imagine the possibilities of Sky with 35-40 yd average? Zubes is already on punt coverage team, no one will ever know if Sky is droppin' the boot or lettin one fly.

This is why the CTR is big-time. Most evidence, visual and otherwise, points to this being an average-ish LHCBS team thus far. But all the other data points from outside actual games suggest otherwise: Returning QB? Check. Lots of other returners? Check. Strong finish to previous year? Check. Minimal coaching turnover? Check. Scoring  50 in first 2 games? Check. Starting confy play 1-0? Check. Legit pre-season hype and top 3 conference ranking? Check and check. I can't think of a LHCBS team with those demographics that didn't eventually have an unequivocally successful season.

The one major outlier is Vandy. For 9+ win seasons, 93 and 2011 would be the notable exceptions with wins over P5 schools on the road (neutral site Ws in 2000 and 2003). A lot of those teams had plenty of early season stinkers against weak competition, mostly at home-- 97 Ohio, 95 @Cincy, 2011 Eastern Kentucky, 2012 North Texas, 94 Rice (my first time watching the Cats in person), but escaped with Ws.

So is Vandy an anomaly and this is a great Snyder team the schedulemakers did no favors for?
Or is this team an anomaly among Snyder teams? (Unless calling this a LHCBS team is an inaccurate descriptor of coaching duties, which seems unlikely).
We may have our answer Saturday. Texas often serves as a litmus test for Snyder seasons, wins in 98, 99, 11, 12, 14, 16 with 02, 03 and 2010 as exceptions both ways, but Jared Brite and Vince Young aren't walking through that door. I guess CK kinda is, but still.
For now, I'll go with the former, as the preponderance of 25 years of evidence suggests. 27-20, Purples.

Risner's tweet yesterday wasn't especially encouraging:

"Everything happens for a Reason..
Nothing occurs by Chance...
It's all apart of gods divine Plan...
Trust it and go where he leads You."

Hopefully a low ankle sprain is what happened for a reason, and that reason is so some trainer can get really good at taping in time for Vandy.

We did it in 98 against Nebraska. Kind of amazing how Un-Snyder 2 that game was.

13
It was like 15 degrees

*I might be thinking of 95?

Maybe 97 when we finally took them down. Very cold that day. 95 was a pretty nice, sunny day with a sad ending.

14
The had that one 9-win season though. And it only included two wins against high school and YMCA teams.

The David Allen PR TDs back-to-back weeks against ISU and UT in 99. Can we repeat that feat again in reverse?

Van Halen, Asia, and U2.

Ian Campbell (on with Nate and Steven) thinks there are still two divisions. Thinks Cats can win the North, though!

Aren't Dick and Snyds pretty tight? Chances of BV may have increased, but what about chances of Sean?

We sure are accumulating a lot of sleepers

But if they all wake up at the same time, look out!
