People reporting BigTen reached deal with Fox for $250MM/yr for 1/2 of non-BTN content (25FB/50BB games per year).  Quick math puts BigTen non-BTN money at $500MM per year or almost $36MM per school starting in 2017.  Over $35MM per school before BTN money.

Don't assume that the other half of that money will get $250 million.  It may get half of that.

The other thing is that the Big Ten itself will take a cut of that money, probably a full share (divide by 15 and not 14).  Also, I'm sure the deal is backloaded like every other deal.

I'm guessing the six year commitment was a Fox decision.  They probably don't want a long term marriage in the event the cable model really starts going south.  The Big Ten probably wants to milk the best short term deal now, and if things all go to hell, they can take a bunch of content and start digitizing it if need be.

I think the underlying moral of the story is that these big, long term media deals are dead.  If it's money that we're after in expansion, it's not coming unless we truly believe 12 leads to stability and we can break even with pro rata + CCG.

I'm somewhat ok with UConn. They're not as gross as most of the other non-P5 schools so if we have to add I guess they'd be high on my list.

At this point, I'm thinking:

1. The conference is pretty gross and boring now.
2. The conference will be roughly the same amount of gross and boring if we add two schools.
3. So, the only chance the conference has to get significantly less gross and boring is by doing something super crazy like adding UConn, Florida schools, BYU, etc. Because at least that way it will be really different than what we have now.

they would jump at the chance to join the b12 and both deliver the ever important televisions which we desperately seek.  i've got a friend that graduated from duke, spoke to him about the move last weekend (in north carolina), he seemed receptive to the discussion.

In fact, I think that's why Currie got an extension, he's angling to stay at K-State and then get hired on as the C-to-C commish.

Say we expand to 12 with someone like UConn and some other only moderately gross school farther east (we'll go ahead and use Cincy for this exercise). A "North" Division of 'cats, 'hawks, 'clones, 'eers, 'skies, and 'kats seems pretty woof and I feel like there's a pretty good chance we'd have quite a few years where barely play in Texas at all.

So what's everyone's thoughts on 3 team pods? For example:

East- WVU, Cincy, UConn
North- KSU, KU, ISU
Central- OU, OSU, TCU
South- UT, Baylor, TTU

Each team plays the other two from their pod every year, plus a home and away out of each of the other pods. The only major rivalry that gets broken up is the RRR(and the CTR but since Texas doesn't really to acknowledge it...). So to fix that maybe set one team from each pod and rotate the other two? So Texas every year plays OU, KSU, and ____ and every two years switches between OSU/TCU, KU/ISU, and ___/___.
