In a 2006 European study, the risk of developing lung cancer was:

0.2 percent for men who never smoked (0.4% for women)
5.5 percent of male former smokers (2.6% in women)
15.9 percent of current male smokers (9.5% for women)
24.4 percent for male “heavy smokers” defined as smoking more than 5 cigarettes per day (18.5 percent for women)

you're talking about different probablilities.    You point to the incidence of smokers getting cancer, not that smoking is the leading CAUSE of cancer.   Both can be true.

Was going to say this as well but the thought of Bill and cunnilingus.... :nono:
Fifteen minutes later, when the Kansas locker room opened its doors to the media, the Jayhawks were still crying. Literally, bawling. All of them. I've never seen anything like it, and I've seen devastated college locker rooms -- after losses in the Final Four, the national championship game -- ever

8. Thoughts and prayers to LHC Bill Snyder whose been diagnosed with throat cancer. In a Ultmate football guy move, he is going to keep coaching and I truly beleve that his medical treatment combined with screaming at players could scare the disease right out of his body and send it packing up to move back in with momma. Its called cancer not cantcer and Mr. Snyder knows that better than anyone. Someone need’s to fact-check me on this one but I think hes the only coach in NCAA football to coach in a stadium thats allready named after him which is like having sex with your pregnant wife- its the ultiamte job securty and he’s earned it. A football guy gets more focused with every additional distraction that he has to ignore, and LHC Bill Snyder certainly fits that mold. Were rooting for you.

They do not know what causes cancer. FACT: Most people that smoke heavily never contract lung cancer.

Worst part of the whole deal is Bill feels bad enough about having cancer, and the Life Nazis are going to make him feel worse by wagging their bony fingers in the air about a few cigarettes he enjoyed in his younger days!

There were a lot of ways to make this thread bad, but statistically this one was the least probable?
"How will I recruit to Manhattan? Well, distance. And the proud state of basketball. It start there, and then daily flights to Dallas, because I'm really good at going out. Like top five good. Ask my wife. She wants me to be happy."

He's posted about asbestos not causing cancer on this board in the past, iirc.

i hope we never get to the point that instead of wanting our team to get better, we hope and pray that everyone else just gets worse.

The longer I think about it, the more accurate I realize this statement is. Most of those over on the phog have given up on actually becoming a better program. Sure, they hype things up in July and August, projecting 4 or possibly 5 wins, but none of them actually believe it. They just hope we get worse. Which while I'm on it, how pathetic is it, that even in their own best case scenario for the season, they still can't make a bowl game!?

Bill is a treasure. I'll miss him when he's gone.

Sometimes I get so incredibly pissed about not having (or us not knowing) a plan for the future, and I get mad at him. Then I'll think about him being gone, and it makes me sad.

Really hope he can go out on top or in a way he can be very content with.

It's understandable for you to be frustrated, but not excusable.  I have completely come around to the idea that the right decision is to let Bill make all decisions about K-State football until he is no longer able to do so.
