To those of you who are into cord cutting this seems like an awesome deal:
http://www.theverge.com/2016/11/30/13788934/directv-now-att-internet-tv-service-questions-pricing-channels
100 channels for $35 no cable box needed. The only thing missing that I can tell is CBS and usable on a Roku, but it seems like those are on the 2017 roadmap.
-
unless you live in a market where the network is owned locally, you will need an OTA to get them
-
Who uses roku
-
What? Roku is p great. Only platform that doesn't have a vested interest in pushing their media products down your throat.
-
Who uses roku
I have a roku smart television
-
Prepay 3 months ($105) and get a free $150 Apple TV. Not bad.
-
I just found out that if you have a Samsung smart tv, you don't need a DirecTV receiver to watch TV. Man... that would have been good to have known a few months ago when I bought my 4K tv. But still good news for my other 3 Samsung TVs.
-
Link on that one plz

For all of you cord cutters, how are you getting your internet / what speed internet do I need to enjoy streaming on two devices while browsing the internet on up to three devices?

I stream cable to all my TVs though not technically a cord cutter. I have the fastest internet offered but a shitty wireless router caused me problems initially.

How much do you spend on that internet? Out here FIOS is quoting my ~$90 for 100 up / 100 down. We currently pay $108 for that internet and premium TV through them. I expected to have more savings.
-
Netflix caps at like 5mbs for HD so take what you want from that
-
i have to pay cox like 80/mo, not because i need the speed but i obliterate the monthly caps on the lower tiers
-
google hooked up a 4k tv box at my crib last friday, seems cool
-
How do I get that 'lams?
-
it's part of the trusted tester program. sign up for that
-
OK, I don't have a 4k TV yet, but mostly cause I don't have 4k content. Kinda planned to see what the Super Bowl sales would look like.
Upgraded the sound this weekend. Some thing called atmos lol it like bounces sound off the freaking ceiling

What about the dvr though, whole home?

Got mine the day before Thanksgiving...the wireless TV boxes works well too....I don't have a 4k TV to witness how well that works.
-
the only thing that will eventually stream 4k through the box is Netflix and YouTube (although they don't even do that yet). google will not be streaming any 4k content, at least in the near term.
what they're working on with this rollout is the wireless connectivity between boxes so we don't have to connect boxes throughout the house with coax or ethernet anymore.

Yeah two of my 3 boxes are wireless and they work great. Only have had one hiccup

No DVR capabilities? What is this, 1998?

Playstation Vue is light years ahead in the Cord Cutting world.

Yes, you need the whole home DVR. The TV basically connects to it and works like the wireless mini-genie.
I've tried setting mine up and apparently, you have a DirecTV technician come out to set it up. Also, requires a hardwire internet connection to set up. You can use wifi after it's set up. I'm going to call DirecTv today or tomorrow.

lib I've heard the SB deals are not the best for TV's :dunno: It's consumer electronics so, lots of things drive price breaks.
I don't have a 4K, but not going to worry about it until more 4K content is available.

Playstation Vue is light years ahead in the Cord Cutting world.
I'm trying it out right now, I'm not that fond of the layout, but :dunno:
TBH honest, I may just cheap out with an OTA and use my P's log-in for WESPN and FSGO, they'll never need it; and then just Netflix and AMZTV.
-
I just talked to DirecTV. Not only do you have to have a DTV installer come and hook your smart TV up, there's still a $7 per TV charge. So, no benefit of using your TV as a receiver over the mini-genie.

that's such rough ridin' crap
-
it really is, I mean once you are an actual sub you get access to pretty much everything thru the streaming apps and whatnot. That is one nice thing about TWC is they let any roku act like a box but it is for live TV only. I was hopping DirecTV Now might be the same for DirecTV subs but it appears to be a completely separate deal

I agree with you on the layout, but the lineup, the multi profile and cloud based dvr make the layout issues easy to live with compared to other providers.

Ala-Carte is here. Just got off the phone with Charter, trying to dump CCTV: All locals, plus 10 channels of my choice, plus HBO, DVR, plus 100Mbps Internet for $80 bucks a month.
Got NFL Sunday Ticket for Free on the App.
See Ya PSVue.

Is there a box involved?

Definitely wait on DirecTV Now. I'm currently on PSVue but figured I'd try DirecTV, so far I've been signed up for about 36 hours and still can't sign in. They did take my money and are impossible to get a hold of. I'm sure it will work out, but it's not starting out well.

Just saying guy, I don't know what your package was before but dish network and Directv both have multiple packages for less than that. If you're saving money I don't understand not getting the best value.
-
He's in Iowa, where it's CAF to lay fiber.

Hmm, Sat's with 100Mbps quality Internet, they must have upgraded the eff out of those birds.
-

That's nuts. Why do you need internet that fast? I honestly have no clue what that's good for? Gaming?
-
i don't - mentioned in the past (maybe today even), but it's the monthly bandwidth cap that gets me
-
hmm just checked and they upped the cap on the lower tiers, so i can drop to the ultra cheap $78/mo tier now
-
I have shitty satellite internet and it says I get 12 Mbps, no way, capped at 20 gigs a month and I can't imagine using more than that, and we have a smart tv.
-
I've used 417GB with 6 days left on my billing cycle
-
i pay $80 for internet that says it's 75, but never is anywhere close to that plus some shitty channels that come with it that i never watch because i don't have a tv.
i'd kill for dax's deal.
-
me too
-

WTF? Do you own a television? Are you a bootlegger?
-
decent amount of work stuff, long distance simul-netflixing minus chill, use my plex library :dunno:
-
i use at least 300gb a month at home (no caps). i use over 10 a month just on the phone plan (12gig plan). htf do you survive on 20gig home internet cap :sdeek:

Phone plan? Like VoIP? I'm assuming I watch a lot more television than you guys. I only really stream for watching scrubs, something I miss on PBS, or kstatehd. We work the crap outta the DVR here. I can't imagine what I'd do with 10x more gigs? Steal more music? :dunno:
-
Do your kids read books all day or some crap?
-
no, cell phone.
i have cable but i only watch saturday football and live news events on it, i have 2 programs set to dvr. stream a lot of stuff that could be done from on demand (hbo, showtime, starz), but the apps are easier to use.
-
i guess i'm probably illegally using network logins i pay for in a different zip code, but otherwise legit use
-
Do your kids read books all day or some crap?
Actually yeah.
They get home from school, do homework, eat dinner, play for a little bit, bathe, then we read from 7PM until bedtime. Add to that mix the nights we have sports practices, music and performance arts rehearsals, and that about covers it. They have leap frogs but they really only use them when we fly or drive to Manhattan for games. I did buy them kindle fires for Christmas but I don't think they will use them very much, my 7 year old is a huge book work, she reads chapter books a week. I never did that crap, barely do now, I read a max of three books a year.

If I Had A Hi Fi
-
FYSA my gigabit fiber is 5500 yen
-
FYSA my gigabit fiber is 5500 yen
mine is 7987 yen a month
gaming doesn't use much bandwidth fwiw
-
We were looking to get an Apple TV for our basement TV, so I signed up for the 3 month prepay deal. I tried it on my phone and it seems good.
-
fyi to you fiberheads, the insider e-mail sent today has a link to a $20 google play credit. it's at the bottom

Tonight I was watching cat volleyball on the smart TV, Rowing The Boat on my tablet and watching KU volleyball lose on my cell phone, all of the pictures looked great and had no lagging issues at all. I just don't understand the need for all of that bandwith you get with fiber.
-
Roku?
-
yeah, you don't need fast bandwidth for streaming video. you probably used up your 12gigs of data streaming on two devices tho
-

20 and I did not use it up on three devices. It looks like it used about 4 gigs.
-
Roku?
I mean my tv has roku built into it so yeah I guess I used it for watchespn
-
All you cord cutters are saving me $$$ by putting the squeeze on cable providers. Prices are lower, a la carte is emerging, and 24 month contracts are a thing of the past. I've stayed with DirecTV because of the sports, and the DVR, and the simplicity of channel surfing. The merger with AT&T has made the bundled internet easier and cheaper, too.
I just re-upped for another year and have Choice Package (all the regional sports and basically every other non-premium channel), WHDVR, 6mos HBO, NFL Sunday Ticket, and 50mbps internet for $96+tax. That's the lowest I've paid for that much stuff since DVRs hit the market.
-
I pay for super fast internet and pirate everything else. So that savings isn't coming from me
