Big12 4-1 in regionals so far.  Watching UT lay the wood to aTm right now

You have to have minor sports.  So invest in the one's that provide the greatest possibility for visibility and marketing.

Last years CWS avg 1.2 million viewers per game,  with the championship series at 1.9 mil per game, that almost tops the women's FF.

Exactly.  If football is the front porch of the school, which I think was a Snyder or weefs line, then men’s basketball is the back door and baseball is the walkout basement door where Alex sneaks in to hook up with the daughter.

I came here for something else but this and stones reply to it struck me funny. College baseball being the fourth most popular college sport is commendable, well done, a big PING to you college baseball.

So I somehow found myself in an Augie Garrido youtube wormhole, it's a treasure trove by the way, the guy was a rant machine. I don't know what year this was from but he wasn't happy about losing to Brad Hill's boys. This is like his fourth best rant on youtube.

Yes, he's acting like he didn't reply to a post that overly stated what the third highest rated college sport championship is.

You're right.  For some reason I was thinking the B12 tournament appearances were regional appearances.

He will be mediocre here, too. He won't transform into an even shittier baseball manager just because we hired him.

He has more experience with P5/D1 programs vs when Brad Hill signed on here. So in that area alone, confidence rising.

It's not that he's a shittier manager, it's that the program is harder to recruit to.

What is acceptable in baseball?  Is 50% NCAA regionals a high bar?

I think good coaches will get good recruits anywhere and bad coaches won't. The "easier to recruit there" argument is mostly bogus, imo. Programs that care about sports get better recruits because they hire better coaches.

The thing that sucks about college baseball, is the minimal recruiting scholarship funds they have to hand off to recruits. Location is usually key and so is the programs history. Hopefully he can still recruit well and can sell renovations soon.

Pretty meh hire.  Does nothing to get my interest or excitement level up in KSU baseball.  7 winning seasons in conference play out of 19 in P5 conferences.  At least he wasn't just fired from his previous job, but then again...maybe he was as he is a "volunteer" assistant coach.

 :frown: :frown:

Also this:  career number of first place finishes in P5 conferences: 0

Great hire, Gene.

It's an absolutely terrible hire. Maybe he'll win some, and I really hope he does, but I doubt it.

Baseball these days is so much about recruiting and locking down close metro areas. KC is becoming a small baseball factory. If he can do that there, he'll be alright. I just expected a younger guy that would be more capable of bringing in the guys the program needs. Managing is about the 49th thing on the list he needs to do well to succeed here.

Doing things the K-State way being around #125.
