(This guy should really direct his anger at the FBI who, if they hadn’t been in the tank for HRC, would have have effectively killed her campaign and might have afforded Biden the opportunity to beat Trump. Talk about a historically spectacular misfire).

I've said it before and I'll say it again, K-State fans could have beheaded the entire KU team at midcourt, and K-State fans would be celebrating it this morning.  They are the ISIS of Big 12 fanbases.

 https://www.nytimes.com/2018/06/27/opinion/anthony-kennedy-retirement-supreme-court.html

Quote
If the last few days hadn’t been dispiriting enough for those who believed the Supreme Court could still stand for reproductive freedom, equal rights for all Americans, a check on presidential power, a more humane criminal justice system and so much more, Wednesday afternoon brought the coup de grâce.

Everyone knew it was coming sooner than later, but Justice Anthony Kennedy’s retirement, which he announced in a letter released hours after the court had issued its final rulings of the term, is still crushing. It sends a stark message to the tens of millions of Americans who have long turned to the court for the vindication of many of their most cherished rights and protections: Look somewhere else.

That place is the ballot box. So show up and vote. In the absence of a Supreme Court majority that will reliably protect human dignity, universal equality and women’s right to control their own bodies, it is up to Americans who cherish these values to elect politicians at every level of government who share them.

In their grief, the irony is evidently lost on the NYT that they are advocating for exactly what conservatives have long insisted on: It is up to the legislature, directly selected by the people at the ballot box, to make policy. Pieces like this don't mean liberals will stop trying to advance their politics through the judiciary, but it's still funny to see them finally conceding "welp, we're probably going to need to actually elect more folks to advance our liberalism."

In all seriousness it is a bit shocking to see how people react to an 81 year old dude not wanting to work anymore.   I mean look at the guy, he looks like he could die tomorrow.  I saw serious discussion yesterday on twitter talking about massive paydays from trump and that kennedy’s son wasn’t going to get a big real estate deal done unless retired.

Justices really should be required to step down at age 70. That is too old to work any job more important than the guy who greets you at Walmart.

Is it too old to hire the best and brightest to do your work for you?

That sounds exactly like the type of person who would have an opinion on Roe v. Wade. :dunno:

Oh man, so many gems here. http://theweek.com/articles/782002/democrats-are-acting-like-bunch-cowering-dandies-need-grow-spine-throw-some-punches

Some of my favorites....

Quote
While Democrats should hang together and make every vain effort to pressure the remaining Senate moderates, let's be real: Republicans are going to confirm whoever is put in front them by President Trump. Jeff Flake and John McCain might tweet the occasional somber criticism of the president, but when given the opportunity to appoint hard-right originalists to lifetime positions on the Supreme Court, they will go merrily along. It is their life's dream to finally vanquish the New Deal, overturn Roe v. Wade, and usher in a new Gilded Age. If that means voting for the SCOTUS pick of a sub-literate, corrupt, divisive Russian stooge, they are all too happy to do it.

Quote
The best way to think about the complete nonsense lottery leading to lifetime tenure on SCOTUS is this: If Clarence Thomas retires and something happens to Democratic appointees Ruth Bader Ginsburg (who is 85) and Stephen Breyer (who is 79), Trump could appoint the entire majority on the Supreme Court in his first term alone.
:woot:

Quote
Democrats must get behind a radical reimagining of how Supreme Court openings are created and filled. Why not cap service on SCOTUS at 18 years and give every president the right to two picks per four-year term? If that law is deemed unconstitutional, as it may very well be, [Um, you think?!] Democrats could introduce a constitutional amendment to eliminate lifetime tenure and dare Republicans to oppose a genuinely bipartisan, far-reaching resolution to this problem. [I’ll take that dare.]

Quote
the next Democratic president should go on national television shortly thereafter and give Neil Gorsuch seven days to resign, or else SCOTUS will be packed with the number of justices required to produce the liberal majority that was stolen from Democrats in 2016. Remember: The number nine is not in the Constitution at all, and there is no functional difference between manipulating advice-and-consent procedures to steal the Court's swing seat and simply adding justices.

Pack the Court!!!

Remember when scalia died and a bunch of Republicans (and pretty sure fsd) freaked out and said we should just not replace the seat so we lower the number of unelected totalitarians?

Lol
