Holy crap. Dude probably remembered it until the day he died. Unless he was senile or something at some point.
If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.

614 Kearney    Stewart (Kearney St. Grocery)

This one was like two houses down from me.

How convenient must it have been back in the good ol' days. I mean, hungry? No problem, take a few steps down the street for a nice can of beans of a hard biscuit.

I bet the Stewart guy who owned the grocery store at 614 Kearney was super pissed when ol' Millard Moore packed up and moved from the Wareham building to 924 Kearney, and encroached on his territory.

I've been watching quite a bit of The Wire. I wonder if the old grocery dudes, got embattled in bitter turf wars over valuable grocery real estate?

I thought they said houston and like 5th, but I wasn't paying much attention. Maybe that was a basement bar. I know the word basement was used

there was a swanson donuts that was close to bassets bike shop where a young rick daris got his first diamond back bicycle. the donut place was in the basement. then the mall came and they actually did move over to houston and 5th but it wasn't in a basement and they only stayed for a few years. hot damn my dtmhk knowledge. :Carl:
All of this sounds made up.

My dad or grandpa would know. They were telling me about some donut place that was just in the basement of some dudes house or something  :sdeek:

jesus christ. it wasn't in the basement of a house, it was on poyntz where the mall is now. i think the 200 block, but could've been 100. south side and you entered from the alley.

You still people talk about this place quite a bit. Didn't they stay open right up until just before they demolished the buildings to make the mall?

Hey dorks, maybe you should go to 5th floor Hale, University Archives, and ask for the Manhattan Downtown vertical file from each decade. Then you can truly educate yourselves on every goddamn donut shop and bodega dtmhk ever saw.

My Kansas History teacher in high school described Swannies as having "the best doughnuts in Kansas".  It was even a test question if I remember correctly.

Good for him. How worthless is his master's degree at KU that he needs to pursue the exact same degree at tOSU?

Also just as an FYI, if you knew Coach Steve Clark back in the day (now he's in Wichita, I think), his kid played for Oregon when they were in the 2011 championship. Also Clark was recently racially profiled in Wichita.

Came across a Blue M yearbook earlier this week. Items of interest:

1. I realized that I had Booyah!'s dad for geometry. He was sort of a pseudo intellectual just like Booyah! One day, I was just sitting at my desk, listening to the lecture and he walks by, taps the book on my desk and says, "Closed book, closed mind, eh?" I was furious. I went like half of the year without missing a single point on an assignment or exam. That rough ridin' bad person.

2. sys has quite a gorgeous head of hair in his senior picture.
