ku's big money football donors need to step up huge with the $ this time around.  big bucks can buy big things, that's my motto.  go out and swing for the fences and prove the nation wrong.  get this thing turned around and bring respectability back to ku football.  a home run hire is only a hanging fastball away, now let's get out there and find the next COY and bring him home to lawrence, kansas, football town usa.

Cheesy Mustache QB might make an appearance.

New warning: Don't get in a fight with someone who doesn't even need to bother to buy ink.

I'm more interested to see who emerges as the front runner for the "coach we had but then things barely fell through" talking point.  Harbaugh is tough to top, but it can be done.  For the fanbase, its good for morale as it would seem unsubstantiated rumors give them validation for some reason.  Then, understandably, this spills over into "nattys we would have won with the coach we didn't get" which in turn leads to more validation.

This is an enjoyable by-product of any ku coaching search

I hope they don't hire Carl. They are way too good of a job for that bad person.

What ever the big money donors do, it needs to be big money.  That way, even if this doesn't turn out to be the homerun that they want it to be, they maintain the image of serious compensation for the next coaching hire.  Also, guaranteed contracts so that any serious coach knows that he isn't looking at being fired on some dumbass Grape's whim in the first two years of clean up.

Craig Bohl would be a great hire for KU.  1)  He knows how to win with crap for talent.  2)  He is very cheap.  Could be had for $1.0M per year, and he'd leave Wyoming for that.  Lots of upside for little cost.  He's already 2-0 at Wyoming, BTW.

He just got his ass beat by Michigan State over the weekend, so I don't think he's 2-0 anymore.

Just so it's in this thread, too.

Ed Orgeron, he'd take the job because he's on a tilt right now. Would probably have to pay him $2.5M per year on a 4+ year contract, but I think he's the best coach they actually have a shot at.

Gary Barnett would also be a good hire.  He was asked publicly earlier this year if KU would be an option and he didn't right away shut that crap down, so you'd know he'd listen.  Former Big 12 COY.  Still watches college football in his free time and can really talk pigskin.

One reason to believe KU will knock this hire out of the park, is that in the Big XII era, KU has never had 3 complete dogcrap failures at head coach in a row.  Don't look for that streak to end anytime soon.

Lots of tail for Carl to show his weiner to, may get to romp the ladies in Lawrence with Massa.  Fits drug culture in Lawrence.

Can we also use this thread to document the mental, emotional, and physical characteristics that the ideal candidate should possess?

Here is what I am thinking:

If we really nail down these characteristics, then we can use those to accurately predict the next KU coach.  Once we do that, we can enter into some pretty serious arbitrage arrangements, and really leverage our algorithm.

Why not Terry Bowden?  He has a proven track record winning for almost 2 years at an SEC school and at the D-2 level.

Dennis Franchione just might be the best hire they can make. Or the worst. He's a crapshoot, really.

they can't hire mangino back, but mike stoops was around .500 and took arizona to three bowl games in eight years. very similar to what mangino did at ku. i think they'd be pretty happy with that. :dunno:

Raheem Morris
2.5 Million

Conference experience. Awesome recruiter. Swaggier than swagwood's whole family. In the market for a better job than NFL position coach.  I would be so rough ridin' jealous I don't know what I would do.

Guys, no way Lane comes.  His wife was a 10 in Tenn and S Cal.  No way she will consent to becoming a 6 simply by moving to Lawrence.
