Skp Foster, former Coffeyville Red Raven head coach, went to AFL, now back at Coffeyville:

Maybe not fat enough, though.

That guy is almost a spitting image of my junior high football coach.

Harbaugh was never going to come to KU.  They really need to stop believing they had a chance at him.  It's pathetic at this point.

What about Gale Sayers, since we where recently reminded of how important he is to KU football

It looks like its ole Ed's to lose:

Quote from: Ed Orgeron, via College Football Talk

"It's a Power Five (job)," Orgeron told George Schroeder of USA Today at a speaking engagement Monday in Little Rock, Ark. "(Mark) Mangino went 12-1 and went to the Orange Bowl. It's in a great conference. His staff proved that you can do it."

When asked if he really wanted to be Kansas' fourth head coach seven years, Orgeron was undeterred.

"It's a challenging job," he said. "But most jobs you get, there's gonna be some things you're gonna have to fix."

I am thinking 2 Million maybe?
I think his success at the helm with USC was more to do with being surrounded by talent than his coaching . Despite that, Pat Haden did Orgeron pretty dirty IMO. Pulling for O to get a gig but it would be too big of a gamble for Zenger to keep his job, O hasn't proven he can do something with nothing

I still think the only way to get it turned around is to bring in someone who can do something like what James franklin did at Vandy.

While driving home from work was listening to the afternoon sports show on WIBW 580.  Caller noted that if Bowen could win 6 games (heck, maybe even 4) this season, the job at KU would probably be his.

Of course, got to love his KU zeal.  :excited:

My guess is that if Clint can win 1 or 2, he may be coach of the year in the Big 12.

Maybe he was talking about the team total. If KU finishes 4-8, Bowen absolutely deserves a shot.

Excellent insight. Most coaching searches don't target this type of candidate

Dan McCarney

Pros:
Could be had for less that $1 mil per season (currently at $600,000 with bonuses at N Texas).
Texas recruiting ties in place.
Has experience taking a Big XII team with terrible facilities from the cellar to bowl games.
Basically can roll out of bed and lead you to .500 season within 3 years.
Can make the KU job respectable again by the time the facilities are improved; can dump him then and hire a hot shot HC.

Con:
Can only give you .500 seasons. But as my (very casual college football fan) dad said on Sunday, "I'd just like to see KU be competitive, like Iowa State." This is the most precise way to get KU to that level!  :tsc:

KU could really benefit from a stepping stone coach like McCarney.

Do we anonymously fax Wefald's consulting resume to Cheyenne Zulu and hope that he engages Wefald to find a candidate with impressive notebooks?  May be worth a shot.

My goodness, this feels like it is taking forever.  I mean, when you fire a guy the day after game 3 or 4, it's because you have a plan, right?  If not, someone needs to put up a 'shop of Zulu with a Mission Accomplished banner at the conf announcing chuck's firing.

they're up against SMU

Cheesy Mustache QB might make an appearance.

New warning: Don't get in a fight with someone who doesn't even need to bother to buy ink.

Heard Blair Kerkhoff on 810 discussing this very issue.  He rated SMU a superior job because of the recruiting area and because of the size of SMU's endowment.  :D   I bet that made KU fans hate 810 even more.

I think waiting is smart. If South Carolina keeps losing games, Spurrier might be available.

any other examples of coaches being out of the game for 9 years, and then jumping into a "pile of crap"?

If I'm a KU fan, I'd really like Gary Barnett btw.  He said he'd love to be the coach at Kansas this morning.
