Maybe Dayton knows Eric secretly already has a better offer from somebody else and is just making this offer so the Royals faithful know that he at least tried or something.

maybe, i'm hoping the Cards or someone swoops in

I just don't see how designating that much $ to one player who is good but not some Harper/Trout/Stanton/Machado/Altuve type in terms of production will do anything but handicap a team like the Royals.

Hosmer is very good, but that money spread around the rest of the diamond for the next 7 years is a much smarter way to run a baseball team.

Well it would be a very smooth transition for Eric if he did go to the Cards.

Cards are probably too smart to offer a 1st baseman with limited power 7 years anyway

$20 million / year is the going rate for a somewhat above average free agent. It wouldn't be an overpay for Hosmer in a vacuum, just a huge gamble for us considering we aren't likely to be competitive in the first few years of the contract when he would be likely to provide value in excess of his annual salary.
:adios:

If we sign this deal its a clear message to me as a fan that nostalgia and familiarity have taken over winning as an organizational value.

Hosmer is not worth this for a market like KC. Its time to bottom out big time like Houston did.

oh I don't think its a guaranteed path to another parade, but I do think a big contract like this to a good but not great player becomes an anvil around the neck of the organization.

I'm just patiently waiting for the starting pitcher 2.0 trade to the brew crew for a crew of young talent that wins us another ship.

I just don't think Duffy is quite good enough.

That's amazing, good for lo Cain.  Hopefully they are in win immediately mode to the point they make us a good deal for Duffy and Herrera and Whit
