KSU is actually doing pretty well relative to the Big XII.

I have no idea what I'm looking at.

I assumed it's nationally televised games and the viewership.

If so, LOFL @ KU only having 6 games... BUT, it's CatsU that is holding down their national brand, conference realignment progress, etc. They're a rough ridin' afterthought.

I took the top 100 non-bowl/playoff games and determined the % of viewers who watched for a team in certain conference.

So, in 2014 --- out of the top 100 rated games --- about 35% of the viewers tuned in to watch a game featuring an SEC team.  That is such a huge chunk of the pie it's not funny. The ACC is also a much bigger draw than people think as well (likely in part due to the notorious nature of FSU).

Which teams brought in the most viewers last year (not counting playoffs or bowl games)?

Look at KSU right at 25...

How does a state with 5 million people have two top ten viewership schools.

So, as has been discussed many times in the cigars thread that performance doesn't matter.....that the big population and blue blood schools can all suck, but it doesn't matter.  People will tune in to watch them suck.

Well, there is texas sucking last year and they can only get as many people to watch them as a team in a state with 1/9 of the population.  And there is Missouri.  The only D-1 school in the state and double the population of Kansas, and they played for the SEC championship.  Yet, they bring nearly the same amount as KSU.

So, where is the sweet spot?  How good do you have to be to get a lot of people to watch?  Also, is the data skewed because of time slots?  I'm sure Alabama played in a lot more prime time TV slots than other teams.

Time slot and network is a huge factor. How many times were Alabama and Auburn on CBS last year?

This SEC has quite good viewership, obviously.   They are certainly benefited by the fact that four of their states don't have any professional sports teams and likely never will, and in Tennessee their pro sports teams are relatively new.    While the Braves are certainly a regional team the Falcons and Hawks are strictly Atlanta metro.

This also destroys the notion that people don't watch K-State; for K-State to be in the Top 25 of all college football viewership is impressive on many levels.

SEC is 7 of the top 10 so teams like Arkansas, Tennessee, and Missouri's numbers likely benefited quite a bit by playing those schools.

They only have one game a year on that network, but yeah. I think it was Iowa State too.

North Texas was also on LHN.
