Reasons you wouldn't donate your organs

I just had a friend who died while waiting to receiving a heart transplant.

I'm trying to think of a single reason why someone would choose not to donate their organs if they died and I can't think of a single one.

Anyone have any?

Fear that they might assume you are dead / just let you die because they really need to harvest your organs soon to save someone else.

some people are afraid that if they are organ donors than they would be murdered for their organs or that the doctors wouldnt try to save them so they could use their organs for other people.

Most don't because it's opt-in.    When polled people indicated they really didn't have an issue with it, just didn't think about it.   I'm all for changing it to opt-out like many countries.

the donor program needs to be opt-out. i really want to be a donor, but idk if i've even signed my license like i need to. a big holdup is the fact that i don't plan on dying for about 55 years.

I'm a donor.  I don't think much of facebook, but one good thing about it that you can list "registered as an organ donor" as a life event.  Any little incentive to make it seem cooler to the masses...

There needs to be a much better system for declaring for organ donation and pushing for people to sign up if they are not opposed.  I've wondered how much more research could be done with more available organs.  I've said this before, but my friend has cancer that spread.  It's not the primary cancer that's made him near terminal, but one organ it's spread to.  Transplant is relatively common for that organ, but low supply makes him ineligible.  There may be methods of transplant then treating the primary cancer, but researcher can't/won't come close to even trying because organs need to go to individuals with better prospects.

Although most won't admit it, there is a substantial percentage of people who are worried about going to heaven and then not having their corneas or livers or whatever.

So when I had some dental work done, the dentist told me about this gal who needed a bone graft to build up the bone for a single tooth implant.  Since it was against her religion to let anybody else's bone to enter her body (Katdaddy no), she basically had a bone bank harvest bone from her jaw, refine it or whatevs, and then came back to the dentist with it for her procedure.  Ended up costing her a fortune that insurance didn't cover.  I always wondered if her religion allowed organ donations tho

this is slightly long but on topic.

one of my hermeneutics & new testament profs (yes i went to seminary) fielded a question about tattoos & piercings in class and he said a Christian should not get them as they would still have those in their glorified body in heaven (still don't see why that would be an issue) and used a text where the Christ showed his nail marks to a doubting disciple after his resurection as proof that your heavenly body is the same as your final earthly body, only eternal.  so then someone brought up organ donation.  he said absolutely not don't do it, using the same reasoning.  at this point i was pretty pissed about the garbage he was teaching, not that i don't believe in God because i do but because he was taking a verse and ripping it out of context to back up his thought.  i took his argument and ran with it and said i feel sorry for Christian's that die in fires as they will spend eternity looking like a neglected marshmellow over a camp fire and even further yet, the Christians that die in explosions that would have to have someone carry their exploded body parts all over heaven for them throughout eternity.  i was asked to leave for the remainder of the lecture.

tl;dr cliffs: as a Christian i strongly believe that the religion argument used by some Christians is absolutely ridiculous.
