Mid season assessment of our players
« on: January 04, 2017, 11:44:38 AM »
I would like to get objective analysis by our experts.  I am too can for this team.  I think Coach Cornboy is making a positive impact.  Do you see players getting better?

Cheesy Mustache QB might make an appearance.

New warning: Don't get in a fight with someone who doesn't even need to bother to buy ink.

Thanks Tobias, a true artist.
I like how Claws is progressing as he seems to be more rounded player that moves better than last year.  Westicles is a better shooter, and Deathbite is getting over his injury fear.  My concerns are.the.Flush, Dogbite, and Bullnuts.   Budke hitting 3s truly a plus.  I have had trouble pigeonholing Sneed to give him a nickname that really seems to fit.  Budke and Sneed turned us away last night crom the dreaded Allen Chickenhouse funk.

At this point I think it is going to be hard to.select.a MVP at the end of the year.  Who are.the.leading candidates?

I have only watched the Big 12 games in full and I would say Wade is the only candidate.

My thoughts, roughly in order of my rank.

1) DJamer. I'm not worried about a partially fueled by foul trouble in Big 12 play, he's still our best scorer and rebounder when he's on the floor. Having a legit inside presence helps this team so much on both ends of the floor. He can guard the post, protect the rim, and he's an excellent finisher when we get it to him in the paint.

2) Wes Westicles. Wes does so much for this team. Scoring, rebounding, much improved shooting. Diverse on the defensive end so he can guard multiple spots, which is really big given our short bench.

3) Deathbite. Its so important to have a reliable PG and Stokes has developed into that. Granted we only had 2 Big 12 wins last year when he got hurt, but losing him was a big hit. Nice combination of distributor that can also shoot, but still plays solid defense.

4t) Claws. Wade could be moving up this list rapidly if he keeps playing like he started Big 12 play. But just as I'm not worried about DJamer, I'll be a little cautious about Wade. I like that he's looking to be much more of an offensive threat since Big 12 play started. He can shoot it but still score inside, plus has developed into a good rebounder and adequate defender.

4t) The Flush. For his size, he's probably our best defender on the perimeter, though its debatable because Westicles can defend out there too. Plus Stokes isn't a bad defender. Up and down a bit with his shooting, but when he's hitting shots he's hard to guard. We need him to be a 33% 3PT shooter minimum.

6) Xavier Sneed. He could be the wildcard for this team to go beyond a good season. The sample size is a bit hard to read because of his minutes played, but he appears to be a legit scorer that can do much more. He can shoot and rebound and he's developing into a solid defender. If he can play more minutes (I'd like to see around 60%) and maintain his current numbers, he'll be an all Big 12 FR team candidate.

7) Dogbite. IMO, he's the Martavious of this team, which is nice to have. He is shooting decent enough to be a threat even though he doesn't look to score. Good rebounder and with assists, plays solid defense. If we have to rely on him we are in trouble, but a guy that can come in and give minutes for Stokes/Brown is nice to have.

8) Bullnuts. He's going to be asked to play 15 minutes in a few Big 12 games and we need him to be effective. Hopefully he can pick up where he left off before his vacation and put up solid rebounding and shot blocking with a few points.

9) Hot Horndogs. He is what he is, I'm hopeful his role will be reduced like it was most of the OOC because Maurice was playing.

10) Brian Patrick. Seems like a decent shooter. Maybe he'll come in and hit 2-3 threes in a Big 12 game or two. Develop and hopefully be in the mix next year.
