Like I said, KU has finished ahead of KSU in several sports over the last two years (Track, XC, Golf). Head to head is a terrible measuring stick (unless you're KSU apparently).

i mean, go cats, ftb, all of that... but women's basketball is just too hilarious.I was there. First game as a student.
i really tried tonight guys.
:embarrassed:
the moment it hit me is when one of our players got about two inches off the ground while shooting, got rejected by an ou player, and their bench absolutely erupted, in the worst of ways. that was it.

estroballers took it in the teeth against Baylor
Argument in the stands between #KState & #KU fans resulted in police, and, wait for it.. Frank Martin getting involved. I love this rivalry.
This is painful to watch. The passing, the dribbling, the shooting. :barf:
Didn't realize Charlie Dickey's daughter was on the team

They need to rename it "The Octagon of Womb"

legitimate question.
say one of the girls on the basketball team has a boyfriend (not that deb would allow this, but bear with me) whose family is :kstategrad:, and her birthday was yesterday. at a family dinner in which all of her family attended, the boyfriend's parents gives her a VISA gift card for $200.
would currie be a jackass and suspend the female basketball player??? oh, and call the NCAA about it???
(and before i get the "that's not the same at all" bull crap, go to hell, it's exactly the same.)

Why wouldn't Deb allow a player to have a boyfriend? The announcers said that Julianne Chisholm is getting married this summer, so it would be hard to imagine she does not currently have a boyfriend.
Just saw my first interview with Britney Griner . . . :sdeek:

Coach Deb needs to recruit Manhattan High much better. That is the surefire road to success for keeping your job as coach of any insignificant sport at KSU, in perpetuity.Oh god, this x 1000. They could go 12-19 for 10 years in a row, but if she was throwing two or three Indians on the floor every night, nobody would give a crap. Throw in a sharp shooter from Centralia and there will be 4000 people at every game.

PATTERSON `CURIOUS' ABOUT HER TEAM
Nov. 1, 2012
By Mark Janssen
"Curious."
In a word, that's how Kansas State coach Deb Patterson sums up her feelings about her 2012-13 women's basketball team heading into play tonight at 7 against Fort Hays State in an exhibition game slated for Bramlage Coliseum.
"I'm curious as to what I'm going to see with this group," said Patterson of her team that includes seven first-year players. "We've been working hard to establish an understanding of the speed and physicality with which you have to play at this level of basketball."
Game tonight was kind of ugly. All true.
First off, props to FHSU. They're pretty good, and their tall girl really caused some problems.
However, K-State should have done much better. Shot selection was horrible. I don't have a problem with Brittany Chambers taking 6 threes in a game. She can shoot. But she needs to pick her shots better. A lot of shots tonight were forced by our players.
That was my main concern. My other concern is our lack of height. We are not a tall team. This could cause some problems down the road.
especially against Griner :ohno:

protip, we are not very good this year at all. And Chambers taking 6 threes a game will be a minimum this season, she took 4 in the 10 minute scrimmage. Spread, drive, kick out is the entirety of the offense this year.
she, like oscar, has an aversion to signing bigs
I actually bought womens season tickets this year for no reason. Do they give you priority points for that? They were only $20 per season ticket so I figured what the hell and checked the little boxes. Does anyone want some tickets?

What? $20 for the whole season? That can't be right
Yeah, shame.she, like oscar, has an aversion to signing bigs
She lost two bigs to ACL injuries. She has also signed two bigs for 2013.
how tall

I thought she was involved with one of the assistants?
Welp, the more you know!
She franks all her good players. It's a wonder they are this competitive.
lover's quarrel :surprised:
I was at the game today, a few rows behind our bench. Hate to say it, but Deb's behavior was very erratic. I saw players and coaches react in what I thought was very negative fashion.
I have less of an issue with Frank franking players than franking a player because they don't go to chapel. Big time :nono:She franks all her good players. It's a wonder they are this competitive.
she fucks all of her good players. but you're right, it is a wonder they are this competitive.

Either that or she's lost four players to season ending injuries. The truth can be a bitch.
It's a miracle that her team is beating and hanging with these tournament teams.

Are the Lady Cats going to be good next year? I would guess no but I don't really know?
Losing Chambers will absolutely hurt, her ability to stretch the defense won't be replaced. Just looking at what we're losing I'd be inclined to say we will be worse next season. That being said we will (should) have a full roster next season led by Hailey Tejada who had a much better season in 12-13 than I anticipated. Also Deb has earned the right for her to get credit for being a very good coach. Not accounting for her two conference titles, what she did this season was amazing and if not for an undefeated Baylor she should have and would have been conference COY. This team had no business winning any more than 10 total and 3 conference games.
I'm going to say we will at the very least be as good as we were this season but I would be shocked if we weren't at least 4 games better.

Uh, I wasn't kidding at all. Frank is dumb for not retiring Jake's jersey either on his senior night or the season immediately after, although I'm sure Currie wouldn't have allowed it. It makes no logical sense to wait for some moronic arbitrary time period to retire a deserving jersey or number. Tomorrow isn't guaranteed to anyone.

It seems like I've heard, "man are we gonna be good in a year or two" for like the past 5 years.
how many years does it take to build a program?

Every weekend I walk by the BTF I see 3 Big 12 trophies. Someone want to tell me the last kstate coach in any sport with more than 2 conference championships. Certainly not within the last 30 years, right?
Real talk though, any athletic director outside of Stanford, UCONN, and Tennessee that has a WBB coach with 2 conference titles, no embarrassing scandals, and most importantly regularly in the top 25 nationally in attendance would love the hell out of that coach. The standard for non-revenue coaches is rightfully different. Any AD who fires a women's coach with 2 conference titles, a .620 winning percentage and took teams to the post season 14 out of 17 seasons should find new work. Snyder has missed the post season as many times in his last 7 seasonss than Deb has in 17, and half of the wbb teams aren't invited to play beyond the regular season.
another coach at k-state has a .676 winning percentage, 5 conference championships, 5 coach of the year awards, and 20 NCAA tournament appearances
I guess given myFYPavipersonal experiences as a KSU Ladycat, I should post in this thread but WGAF. Deb and her asstnt/wife Kammie or whatever used to have lover's quarrels in front of the whole team during practice. Fire her and replace with the MHS coach, whoever he/she is.

:dubious: good call because it's completely unheard of for a head coach and the lead assistant to have disagreements. Are you going to tell us next that some players don't like each other. Oh the horror :horrorsurprise:

And Romero is getting better every game. Woods has been a pleasant surprise and should get even better. We need to improve the inside game, as always.
Pretty much down with taking the nearly $2 million we lose every year on women's b-ball and using it to support other women's sports.
oh, for those listening to this game tonight, how's the color guy on the radio? heard he's a total stud baller.

Halftime: #KStateWBB 13, Baylor 52. Baylor ends half on 29-0 run. Wildcats 0-of-7 during run w/ 11 TOs. Wildcats w/ 12 fouls, Baylor 3.
I had to check.
Baylor had 1.54 points per possession in the first half.
Fighting Debs had .38.
Ouch.

K-State's women's basketball program total expenses, including game travel/game hosting etc. etc.
Could have covered the entire budget of OU's National Champion Women's Softball team, and WVU's 2 time Big 12 Champion Women's Soccer team with approx: $300K left over, based on 2013 EADA filings; that includes all game day and travel expenses. Based on my at-a-glance calculations.
dax, are you proposing we nix wbb and replace it with softball and w. futbol?

What would you like to compare, the fact that OU women's basketball makes almost 7x's the amount of revenue than K-State WBB (for example).
All women's sports operates at a loss, that's news to no one.
Why spend all that money to finish at the bottom?
When you start paying a WBB's coach $600K a year and you build her facilities that are exactly equal to the men's team in every way, you have to expect more than swirling around at the bottom of the conference and getting blown off the floor.

If you're going to keep being intellectually dishonest then we might as well stop the conversation. You were talking about expenditures not revenue. You used softball and soccer to compare to K-State's women's basketball expenditures because actually comparing them to their peers wouldn't prove your point. I call you out on that and then you jump to revenue but again not comparing us to a peer school. I'm sure you compare K-State football revenues to OU revenues all of the time.
Also the athletic department hasn't brought Deb anything, donors built the BTF and women had to get space for title nine requirements. Our women's basketball team doesn't have better facilities than anyone else in this conference. Your point about spending money to be at the bottom would be valid if our women's program was perennially there, we aren't, she doesn't get a lifetime exemption but she hasn't done nearly enough wrong to get fired.
Again dax there is a reason that you aren't comparing our revenue and expenditures to our true peer schools, I know why that is so we can drop the charade.
Our practice facility isn't better than most of our peers, its newer. Just like the men we were way behind when the BTF was built, that facility, and it is a beautiful facility, caught us up. We did nothing that makes anyone else in our conference say, "damn K-State just rendered our facility obsolete, we have to start over." I don't know for sure but I'm fairly confident that I've seen more of these facilities than you or pretty much anyone else posting on this board.

You can put the popcorn away. There is certainly a conversation to be had about Deb but dax isn't equipped to have it. The only thing he knows about the program is what he sees on box scores. He can't articulate why Deb isn't right for the program so he's doing what he does to dumb KU fans by pretending financial numbers mean something differently than what they say, as if I can't read.
The conversation is over because dax refuses to have a two sided conversation without being intellectually dishonest.

It's not that, its the wild emotional swings based on the result of that opponent, the last time we had a big bump in this thread is when we lost to KU earlier this season, not the 30+ point drubbings or the surprise upset wins, KU moves the needle nothing else.

3 NCAAs, 1 WNIT in that span. I'm guessing that's absolutely fine for 90% of WCB. And would be fine for 70% of MCB.

Just wrangle up all the great KSUWBB players give them all 100k and tell them win a Dr. Pepper you get an extra 100k. Every tourney win 5k. B12T champs 5k. Beat KU free chicken nuggets. Win a natty 200k bonus but then fire some because then we are paying our WBB staff too much.

I assume this strategic plan is based on SL remaining the HC when the staff cuts occur? (Not that a Dr.P or natty is in our immediate future...just askin')

This will be interesting. Does being at Tennessee when they were super good at women's basketball make Currie put any stock in this hire? Is he trying to make a splash hire in case he never gets to make a football hire? Does being at Tennessee when they were super good make Currie realize how little upside there is to being good at women's basketball, so he doesn't care at all about this hire?
Is shalee coaching some where?
My husband and I have been watching K-State WBB since Nicole Ohlde days. Coach P has had her ups and downs through the years. This season was pretty tough but there were quite a few freshmen, especially after a few key injuries that sidelined our point guard. I figure next year to be awesome but if we lose a coach and staff...I now wonder. I hope whatever happens, it is the best thing for the team.
Is shalee coaching some where?
she's been an assistant at ksu for like 4 years I think
:flush:
I heard she made a girl play all season after the doctor's told her early in the season she was at risk for a serious injury if she didn't sit out for a while. Source A
I guess I don't know how I feel about that since I feel confident in saying it happens in men's sports all the time, especially football. But good grief, even Massa Seff sat Embiid.

No I don't think that happens very much, if it were the players choice that's different than the coach deciding that for her.
I wanted Deb to have one more year, but I can't be too mad about this. I'm firmly in the hire Shalee camp, if she doesn't get the job I hope the new coach keeps her. Hiring her as the head coach would energize the fan base, without a doubt.
I hope we hire a hot coach.
And not a carpet muncher. Unless she's really, really hot.
Deb seems very polarizing. Not sure what to believe.
No I'm pretty sure its on target to say chapel time for playing time is unethical, maybe I should have included illegal and immoral as well?. Maybe we can ask Mechelle* on twitter and find out if my one sentence summary is sufficient because the KC Star has scrubbed her work from their servers it seems.she should have been fired for cause after the Star's piece years ago about her unethical practices surrounding religion and the team
either you don't remember what Michele Voepel reported or you don't know what the word unethical means

What to believe in what regard? Many of the things people don't like about Deb is born out of the Voepel article, some details of the article aren't exactly accurate, some are sensationalized, and others people don't remember correctly.
The firing is about wins and losses, but if what Stevesie posted is accurate I hope Currie considered that heavily because that isn't right.

I was shocked he was this aggressive with it. There HAS to be something else behind it because Womens Basketball isn't going to make huge dollars anyway.
I hope Currie doesn't lose a bunch of sleep flying around to hotel rooms in major metros to sign knee jerk contracts with historically loser coaches.
That would be really dumb.

Currie is fixing his dumbass contract that he gave to Deb in 2008.
$600,000 in salary for Deb in 2013-2014 ( for women's basketball)
He does avoid paying out $125,000 in bonus on April 14, 2014.
If we are paying 600,000 for a women's coach, it better be someone cool like Doug Gottlieb.

I'm not sure what is happening here but you are doing your thing where you become unreasonably unhinged so I'm gonna keep walking and not look you in the eye.
I will tell you that the 7.5 year old article you keep mentioning is still on the web and easy to find, I read an article earlier this evening that linked it. That chapel thing in the context you brought it up is an example of you not remembering the totality of the story. I will give you credit and not accuse you of intentionally lying because after all that article was written in 2006 & the person who spoke on record about it graduated 9 years ago.
If you want to do the song & dance about this, that's fine but I was very very close to the program back then close enough to know most of that stuff in the article before it was published. If you want to ignore all of that and just base everything off of an article written 7 years ago about stuff that happened between 8-12 years ago I'll leave you with this.QuoteThey had that option this year, that chapel is at a different time than pregame meal," Wecker said. "But at the same time, if you don't go, then what happens?"
What happened is that people who didn't want to go were told by coach not to go and they weren't kicked off of the team, a few of them stood with Wecker at the championship team reunion last month.
Deb seems very polarizing. Not sure what to believe.
What to believe in what regard? Many of the things people don't like about Deb is born out of the Voepel article, some details of the article aren't exactly accurate, some are sensationalized, and others people don't remember correctly.
The firing is about wins and losses, but if what Stevesie posted is accurate I hope Currie considered that heavily because that isn't right.
whether to believe she should have been fired. There wasn't a big push to get her canned, was there? Kinda aggressive by Currie. I'm fine with it, fwiw.
I was shocked he was this aggressive with it. There HAS to be something else behind it because Womens Basketball isn't going to make huge dollars anyway.
Being an Iowa State fan I'd hope you understand that women's basketball should be the #3 revenue producer for an athletic department of schools in states that have winter. Women's coaches get fired all of the time, they are expected to win too. KUs all-time winningest women's coach was also fired, if Fennely goes 10-26 in conference in a two year stretch he could get gassed too.
What would people who follow the program closely say Deb's biggest problem was? X's and O's, recruiting, getting effort out of players?
I personally kind of always thought she recruited too many Kansas girls and that she hit the lottery with oldhe, wecker, and kanhe and then kind of stuck with that local recruiting strategy, but that's just from looking at the roster and not knowing the girls they are actually pursuing. Thoughts?

A lot of people typing a lot of words in this thread....
Go CATS!
The Stud/ Boss just smacked some dude around on facebook for antagonizing Chambers over one of her fb statuses.
I've never been much of a women's hoops follower, but it has been kind of disheartening to see all of our former players sad on social media.
But what she, and I, and many other athletes are done with, are internet trolls that pretend to be fans and "love and support" us and the school. Thanks

funny projection about posters who have a consistent history of becoming unhinged. This is the same kind of BS you tried to pull last year. You were wrong then and wrong now.Deb seems very polarizing. Not sure what to believe.

I'm not sure what is happening here but you are doing your thing where you become unreasonably unhinged so I'm gonna keep walking and not look you in the eye.

And once again you underplay a quality story because it has totally destroyed your position on Deb which you've constructed for years. She has been a liability for a long time, its just sad that K-State is doing something about it now that the Ws and Ls aren't in the correct amounts. It doesn't matter how long ago the story was written if the piece withstands scrutiny and shows a consistent issue with a coach. But nice attempt at a cheap shot, which you're a great artist of, by feinting the lying charge. The point I had made still stands though, K-State had an opportunity to wash their hands of Deb for cause and should have acted to protect the university. You poorly constructed attempt to attack credibility betrays your failure to make coherent points. Deb had ethics issues then and probably still has them now. I'd love to know how close you were to the program because you make no points and sound like a tuck with that kind of line. You can either lay out an argument or fall further into tuck talking points as a defense. You don't make that kind of piece, put it on a reputable Sunday paper without having your story locked down. The fact you put that quote from Wecker in your defense shows that clearly miss the context and that you clearly have no idea why Deb should have been immediately fired for the potential harm she placed the university in.
Quite frankly I don't give a crap if they article was from years ago, that wasn't my point main in this thread. The point was a) I wish she was gone sooner, when it would have been a cleaner break, and b) she has been in a downward trend for a few years with no major accomplishments to speak of after having many great resources at her disposal. She arguably should have been gone last year. I listed to your points about injuries to the front court/key players and a few other issues and reconsidered my position to "the one more year" camp. Instead we are treated with another awful year building a trend which oscillates between mediocrity and terrible.

her assistant (Cammie something ?) is a defensive stud and is a match-up wizard
.......Deb's offense is weird and dumb..........they constantly have nothing good happening with 5 on the shot clock
Hmmm. I know virtually nothing about WBB. But I want the ksu cats to be good at everything, so I vote we get a coach that makes us good.

I really hate Deb for the religious pressure she put on players. She should have been fired years ago.

What an incredibly stupid thing to hate someone for. To each his own though imo.
If we lose Romero and Shalee, not sure it will have been worth it, if they stick around, I am good with Curries move.Let's just say they don't like Currie. :ohno:

would shalee reject the job based off loyalty to deb? probably not. but maybe?
What is Shalee, like 28ish? Are there many head coaches in WBB that age?
By all means though, I am for giving it a shot.

dax, buddy, its over. We appreciate your dogged research but she's gone, her office is already cleaned out. Not sure why you feel the need to convince us that a fired person should be fired. Who do you like for candidates, may need to go a little deeper than just looking at schedule & results though.

Lenning. I've seen people toss around the WSU coach.
Pick your knuckles up off of the ground, sexist clown. People that throw Deb's salary around need to take like 10 rough ridin' minutes of reading and research to gather some actual context of her salary. She isn't close to being overpaid when you consider the other coaches in the conference and other high major coaches that have been at one place as long as she had. Thankfully Currie is smarter than you rough ridin' idiots and he understands its a pretty good idea to pay your coaches market value.

There is the 10 minutes of research.
I would calculate that 13,500 seats * $50/year= $675,000 in attendance revenue / year.
I bet that is probably high considering how they try to sell Women's Basketball Season packages for $20 with a Men's season ticket.
In general, College Basketball Coaches are overpaid and only survive due to Football. In women's hoops it is an even worse situation than the men.
I think Currie made the right decision to move on from a Head Coach that had only been to the Sweet Sixteen once in 18 years. Get someone fresh and save a $1,000,000 over the next 4 years.
In my opinion, we should be paying our Women's Hoops Coach Brad Hill or Suzie Fritz type money.

So you did the research but you're too rough ridin' stupid to understand market value, jesus christ. Why in the hell would we pay "our Women's Hoops Coach Brad Hill or Suzie Fritz type money?" Brad Hill and Suzie Fritz aren't Big 12 women's basketball coaches, goddamned moron. Your research shows that she isn't overpaid, clown. The next coach is likely to make similar money to Deb.
BOOM YOU GOT MIRed
i wonder if we could get candice jackson away from coach p at duke
Otherwise you are starting out with an unproven assistant type or upgrading a lower level head coach and why should we pay more for that?
Last year Baseball had $218K in Revenue. WBB $348K. Baseball's expenses were half of WBB expenses.
Source-KSU 2013 NCAA Revenue and Expense Report.
Baseball could produce more if they consistently make the post season and finish towards the top of conference standings.
If current trend holds, TFS probably needs to be expanded. Baseball also has a ton of exposure potential. Make the NCAA postseason and stay awhile means lots of ESPN air time.
market value or not, paying a head coach twice the potential revenue is really ridiculous. why are women's basketball (and i'm sure other non-revenue sports) head coaching salaries so inflated? seems like a $60-80k job at most

Honestly, why would you dumb down this conversation even more than it already is? Do you actually want an answer to this question, certainly you're smarter than that? Right?

i'm serious. i understand the value of having non-revenue sports, and the opportunities it creates for many young people and expanding the brand of the university. i'm ok with that trade off (even though i make joke about dropping everything but fb and mbb). but a head coach of those sports should have a salary somewhat equal to your average teacher/professor at that university.
getting paid 600k and only bringing in 366k is just irresponsible though, use that extra 500k and spend it on the athletes.
The logic that wbb coaches should be paid like professors is asinine. Even at $300,000, there aren't professors bringing that amount of money into the university.

tons of professors bring in that kind of money in annual grants. i don't have data in front of me, but i'd say it's closer to the truth that a prof at a serious research university (in the sciences) that isn't bringing in at least that is likely not going to receive tenure (same thing as being fired).
I'll be curious to see the 13-14 revenues/expenses for baseball and WBB. Baseball was coming off of a pretty down year in 2012, so season ticket sales, hype, etc. were not very high. I bet that gap closed considerably this year...http://grfx.cstv.com/photos/schools/ksu/genrel/auto_pdf/2013-14/misc_non_event/FY13AuditorReportFinancials.pdf
Also, there are only a couple of baseball programs that break even each year. There are not a lot of WBB who manage this (43 in 2012), but there several more than baseball.

Again it isn't what you or anyone else thinks what they should be making, the market dictates the value. An individual athletic director cannot lower the value of the contract. You want non revenue coaches to make $85,000, you better make a pact between all athletic directors to keep the salaries that low. However, I'm sure you're aware COLUSION is very illegal. There is a free market so people who want the best coaches will pay them truckloads of money so that money trickles down to everyone. Are you advocating that we ditch capitalism for womens basketball coaches?

That is for FY12-13. I'm referring to FY13-14 that doesn't end until June 30.
Either way, those sheets suggest the difference in revenue produced by WBB and BSB last year is the $43K WBB charged for parking...

Do you think Deb's salary played a role in her termination? I think it got too high and she wasn't winning enough to justify it.
If she had been sitting at 200k i think she is still coaching at KSU. But, to your point, 2 time conference champs demand more.

No I don't think her salary played a role at all, even if she made $30,000 the revenues are still plummeting. We can't afford to keep bleeding revenue. If Deb would have come back for 14-15 I think the team would be much better but season ticket sales would drop again.

I don't disagree, but what does the program need in the short term that Annan wouldn't bring? I have no idea what Annan brings, but on the surface he looks like someone the KSU wbb crowd would get behind.

Take that he was at Seman out of the equation, because like 7 people care about that, what about his resume would excite you or indicate that he's ready for this job? Shalee has more experience as a college assistant than Annan does.

great name 'sclams. I don't know why you wouldn't just hire Shalee if you would hire Jackson though, she doesn't have enough of an experience edge over Shalee to combat the people who would be pissed and call this a Ron Prince type hire. This needs to be a hire that instantly sells tickets and the only assistant who would do that is already here.
They call Joanne P. Mcallie Coach P? I thought that it was weird that whenever someone says her name, they say the P, calling her Coach P is bizarre.

All I can tell from his resume is that he has steadily moved up in program that has been going in the right direction since he got there. His accomplishments at hs level are also solid. I have no reason to believe he would be better or worse than Lehning. I know little to nothing valuable about either one. I thought you were referring to something specific that the KSU program needed. I was just curious what that was.
Take that he was at Seman out of the equation, because like 7 people care about that, what about his resume would excite you or indicate that he's ready for this job? Shalee has more experience as a college assistant than Annan does.
The program needs someone who will come in here and sell tickets, energize the fan base. For women's basketball making money is more important than winning, in the long term they go hand in hand. I don't think we can rebuild with a high school coach. I don't think his resume indicates that he is ready for this job yet. Shalee is in the same boat but we'd sell a lot of tickets and the fans would give her a lot of room to grow within the job.
Now I'm all in with Shalee or Jody Adams.
It seems like we've had this conversation before, just switch out Shalee, Annan, and Adams for Underwood, Gottlieb, and Marshall

Annan is a cool dude but don't compare him with Gottlieb.
Mir, are you willing to break a sink if they dont hire Shalee?

I'm going to write an email to Currie requesting that we burn down the WBB program in order to bring men's soccer to K-State.

I vote we try to compete at the ncaa level in lacross or rugby. Both are pretty awesome.
K-State will never add sports unless we are mandated too you fools.
3. If we were to hire Geno Auriemma, I would be comfortable paying $2,000,000. I realize that it would be worth it in publicity to steal a hall of fame coach away from someone and we would recoup some of the cash in tickets and TV money. Essentially it would be an expensive but fantastic commercial for K-State.
Wait, people actually think we have a shot at Auriemma?
Deb is going to ride off into the Sunset with another $150K in her pocket. She's going get her longevity bonus and $25K
You should never feel sorry for someone who makes as much money as me

We need softball, like now, that way my future wife can get recruited/and or transfer and then I make her my wife.
Also, soccer is stupid and I hope we never add that.

More Financial talk about our three candidates that Currie will ignore.
1. Adams original 2008 contract had a base salary of $160,000 which was then upgraded to $175,000 in 2010. lot of little bonuses were added that I don't care about.
http://media.kansas.com/smedia/2013/03/15/15/09/153kYf.So.80.pdf
If Adams were to be hired away from Wichita State, I would be comfortable paying her $250,000 (with $30,000 bonus for every NCAA tournament win)
2. If we were to hire an Assistant as the new head coach (Shalee Lehning), I would prefer $150,000 (with $30,000 bonus for every NCAA tournament win).
Would Shalee take the job for that? I bet she would. The true Women's basketball fans would be happy and ticket sales would go up based on name recognition and Deb Patterson Fatigue wearing off.

If anyone lives in the Hutchinson area or follows NJCAA teams in the state of Kansas, Hutchinson Community College coach John Ontjes should be at least interviewed for the job. He has an undefeated #3 team right now. He played college basketball at Oklahoma and averaged 10.5 ppg in 2 years there. Also with a good team this year, could set up a better recruiting class for the women at least for the next two years.
i think that a lady should get to be the ladyball coach. there are enough glass ceilings as it is, they dont need to compete with a bunch of toupees.

Does Mr. Mall still coach the MHS girls team? He'd be a good hire.He also has some Nemaha Valley in his bloodlines. Would be a great get.
I'm going to go out on a limb and say Geno Auriemma is not an option. Call me crazy if you want.
Take this to the bank. Brian Agler will not be rehired.

Is this a damn joke? JFC, why do you guys keep advocating for these terrible candidates? Would you want the men to hire a freaking community college coach? Let WSU hire him after we take Jodi Adams. From the Jayhawk Conference to a high major college basketball program with a devoted fan following and very good history, I mean sheesh guys. Let's hire Troy Morrill or whatever to replace LHC LHC Bill Snyder too.

Mittie, 37, was detained in the Harvey County Detention Center for investigation of DUI early Wednesday morning and was released on a $1,000 bond, Harvey County deputy Keith Blackwood said Wednesday.
The coach's Mitsubishi sports-utility rental was stopped when a Newton, Kan., police officer saw Mittie swerving and turning his headlights on and off while heading south on Interstate 135. He was arrested at 3:50 a.m. and released at 10:10 a.m.

Well, I, for one am going to reserve judgment on this Mittie fellow until Puni weighs in.

He's been a pretty decent ball coach. The rough transition to the Big 12 was more because all he had at hand was tools to compete at the Mountain West level. Now he has the tools to compete at a Big 12 and National Level with an elite basketball facility to play with. It's a solid hire. I mean the Wichita State ball coach would've maybe generated more excitement, but this guy has has a winning pedigree. Besides Geno is the best women's coach of all time(no, not Pat Summit lulz), and he's obviously a dude. Get Shalee to stick around it remains a very good hire.
Wasn't the recruiting class coming in pretty good? Hopefully he can keep it together.
Why is MIR always so angry?

exactly, pretty decent, meh :blank: I will say after looking at his resume it appears that he was TCU's Jody Adams, I am a little troubled by him seeming as if he's plateaued. His post season resume is very similar to Deb's, don't be fooled by that dumb post season stat that K-State is throwing out there. TCU has more than a few NITs in that run and very few NCAA wins. His best team was his 04-05 team. TCU had Michael Irvin's niece on that team she's like 6'7" and was just a couple of blocks from breaking the NCAA single season record. That team won 1 game in the tournament and they played that pod at home. At least Deb went to the sweet 16.
I also wholeheartedly reject that point about them transitioning from the Mountain West. As we know TCU played in like 39 conferences in 7 years, but they were not dominant at all, ever. Jody and WSU were 30-6 against the valley the last 2 seasons with 4 titles.

Agree with MIR.
Fired Deb and hired someone with a similar resume.
The biggest upgrade is that the new regime is much cheaper than the old one.
Money shouldn't be the issue here. I'm not very knowledgeable about WBB, but given the fact that it's probably tied with baseball as the most popular non-revenue sport, you can afford to put the money out there even if you're going to operate at a loss. I mean, don't operate at a gigantic loss, but do your best to field a winning team like you do in every other sport. I mean, hell, we built a state-of-the-art practice facility where every single thing is equal between the women and men, so you're already pot committed. Dropping $500k plus isn't crazy, especially if you're a Top 15 program, historically.
When we fired Deb, I texted a friend and said that Currie was probably thinking he could get the same results for half the price. Looks like, on paper, I was probably dead on in how Currie was thinking.
If he had $ in mind when he fired Deb I'd sincerely hope he would heavily weigh revenue producing impact over the coaches salary. This hire makes me think he wasn't thinking about money because this certainly won't make a massive splash with season ticket sales in the short term.

There will be an increase in season tickets just from having Deb no longer being the head coach. Nearly every season ticket holder who gave up their tickets listed Deb as main reason why.

MIR, you need to relax.....
on paper, he may have the same credentials as Deb, but at a savings of 40%........so, that seems like a good business move to me. His first couple of years in the big twelve has been an adjustment, but that should be expected coming into a major WBB conference. Lets see, Deb has been in the big 8/12 for 18 years, and how has her last 2 years been?
I hope he keeps Shalee on board though
All things remaining the same, looks like we just went from a $2.7 million dollar a year loss from WBB, to about a $2.4 million dollar loss.

Pretty had to think that having a really good baseball program that goes deep into the post season isn't worth more notoriety than a WBB program.
Baseball postseason is nearly a months worth of exposure on ESPN. Most of the time in prime time during a period when the MLB is heading into the summer death march and hockey and the NBA are ending or done by the CWS.
WBB postseason is an afterthought for most. WBB on the national stage is dominated by 4 to 6 programs, and the top 1 or 2 teams regularly destroy teams that are ranked in the Top 15.
HEY, must be the Mitt-AY!
Jeff Mittie just called to tell me how great of a fit he and his family will be at KSU. I really wish oscar would call me i actually have some crap to discuss with him.

looks like a terrific women's basketball hire to me.

When I saw this on Saturday, I immediately thought of Kim English
We'll look at that. While the men's NCAA Tourney and obviously the MF4 features one nip/tuck game after another. The first game of WFF features one team up 17 at half.
But by all means let's keep spending millions on this sport.

I've been waiting for this grooved fastball for seemingly a decade, gonna feel great to smash this one 520 ft.
The women's NCAA tournament is 32 years old. At that point in men's tournament history, 1972, the NCAA was less competitive than the women's is now. You were like 30 years old in '72 which may account for the poor memory. In 1972 UCLA were in the processing of winning 7 straight NCAA Championships and 10 out of 12, and they started their 88 game winning streak. Thankfully in 1972 we didn't have a vocal group of sexists oddly wanting to kill a sport because it wasn't as competitive as they like even though they had the option of oh...not watch something they don't like.
Women's college basketball isn't going anywhere, there are federal laws ensuring this. I'm going to be so happy to see this sport continue to grow, I love it. I'll maintain my sanity to continuing to not watch or care about sports I don't like. You should try it, it feels great to be unburdened by worrying about why rugby gets to be on tv.
Thanks for that dax, that was a great birthday present to me, it felt much better than I thought it would.
Your argument is essentially more money is spent on women's college basketball now than was spent on men's basketball in 1972. My reply is, no crap. I'm not sure what how much money is spent on has to do with giving the sport time to develop. The premise of your first post was a ridiculous, flimsy mess to start with. Why even try to make a larger point about a team having a 17 point lead at halftime at the final four; as if there are never blow outs at the men's final four? Also not sure what the final four has to do with what K-State spends on basketball and volleyball. I'm interested in this Dax scale of spending as it relates to your enjoyment though and how it works as far as sports are funded. If Notre Dame and UConn play a game that's decided by a buzzer beater will you call ESPN and request a bonus for those girls playing a men's sport?
Man, watching MIR and dax argue over woman's bball is better than watching...........woman's bball
I just hope someone other than Uconn wins it though, this is absurd...plus Uconn's players are woof
Bring back Skyler Diggins
I didn't say a damn thing about the 50s or 60s. You listed two differences and the other difference was absurd so I chose to ignore it. In 1972 there were not major college basketball schools that didn't allow black players. It also speaks to my point about college basketball at the time still developing. Do you have any more differences?
Also the other women's sports you speak of have less parity than women's basketball. Volleyball? You serious? Volleyball is far and away my favorite women's sport but we don't have a better shot at winning a volleyball championship than basketball, that's preposterous.

Notre Dame won't win, their best player tore her ACL, I'm shocked they beat Stanford.

Give volleyball the Women's b-ball budget and I'll take my chances.
Look, you're just pissed that women's college basketball, despite having a meteoric rise in terms of notoriety on the coat tails of the expansion of proliferation of the men's game is still pretty much solely dominated by about 2 to 4 programs.
There wasn't a hell of a lot of difference between 1972 and the mid to late 60's, so get real. You used poor examples from a by gone era when everyone with a clue (so that would exclude perpetually angry MIR) knows that there's been a massive series of paradigm shifts in college athletics that makes comparisons of the current era we're in, to those days idiotic and absurd.

I'm pissed? Okay if you insist. Not sure why I would be pissed about it considering it was my point. Also not sure why you keep talking about the amount of money that is in college basketball, what does that have to do with how the game is being developed? You were the one that compared a sport to another sport that is twice as old, I simply pointed out that it's silly to compare those two on that basis. I mean don't you have kids older than NCAA women's basketball? In the early 90s there were places in Oklahoma and Iowa that still played 6 on 6 girls basketball in high school. If course there is going to be an inequity of talent distribution. I'm sitting here watching UConn and Kentucky playing in the men's championship game the men's tournament is 76 years old and the same damn 5 teams seem to be the only schools who win, why are we pouring so much money into men's basketball for this?
The difference is that unlike many games on the women's side, most of the men's games go down to the wire.
LOL, at having kids older tham NCAA women's basketball, I'm not that much older than many of the people who post on this board. I'll pull a reverse MIR here and claim age bigotry, never expected that from you MIR, kind of shocked.
Time to have a paradigm shift at K-State, de-emphasize funding of women's basketball and move the money to other women's sports and make a run at national prominence with them. It's not going to happen in women's hoops at K-State. Just my opinion.
football has the highest potential for revenue, and we came pretty close to winning a nc in that. maybe we should just put all our money into football :dunno:
“I think I have the right to transfer, if (K-State) has the right to change what I came for — the coaching staff,” said Romero, who led the Wildcats in points (14.2), rebounds (5.8) and assists (5.0) per game last season.
Romero’s transfer, however, won’t be easy. According to Romero, K-State rejected her initial request for a release, which would have allowed her to transfer to another school and sit out a year while under a new scholarship.
It is K-State’s athletic department policy to not grant release requests, “except for the most compelling of circumstances which place an undue burden on the student athlete.”

Do you really want a player on your team who doesn't want to be there? Seems like it's just making everybody's life harder than it needs to be
yeah that seems weird. they let angel do it, did they let him just because of the 'closer to home' thing?

Had a feeling this was going to happen when they fired Deb.
Oh well, shes not the smartest of players if she committed solely on the coaching staff. Its a big no-no :nono:

That's my personal problem with a majority of student athletes.
When I was being recruited for football (SPOILER, true story), I was having a conversation with some players on the team. Nice guys, they asked me how I liked the visit. I responded with the obvious "Like the campus, the people" and what not. Then I mentioned how I liked the coaching staff. Dude said that I shouldn't commit to play based no that because you don't know whose going to be there next year, or the year after that. And if changes come, then your either going to be stuck in the same situation as Romero, or you are going miserable playing somewhere you don't want to.
Basically, someone should commit based on things that wont change or that can only improve, i.e. facilities, the fans, etc.
I think a lot of athletes are dumb imo. Crap like this happens.
P.S you're a real bro btw, MIR

How could they not commit to these coaches when it is the coaches who develop relationships with the players and the player's patents? The entire system and process is designed for the players to first and foremost consider the coaches who recruit them.

I'm not saying it should be totally brushed off. People make the difference. Im saying you should weigh all other aspects too, and not solely lean on the coaches. Now she is wanting to go rebuild in a new setting, with new people, coaches, and teammates.

So...it's now officially official that Kamie has put the band back together at Northern Colorado, with Shalee as her Associate Head Coach and Moylan and Patterson as assistants. Deb will now be subordinate in rank to two coaches who worked for her. Should make for an interesting workplace dynamic.

What exactly does this speculation have to do with what we're talking about? The issue at hand is someone who has been a head coach for 18 seasons then suddenly working behind two people that have worked for her. I don't think suspected living arrangements would make this transition any easier.

I think this situation would be difficult for anyone in any walk of life. It could be that Deb is tired of running the show so in her mind this is okay because she can be around the game without wearing all of the pressure, but I'm highly skeptical. Pretty surprising that all four coaches and the AD agreed to this.

No we don't. Also there is that old adage about when you hire a new coach you hire their opposite, well I'm not sure we did that Mittie may be even more relentless than Deb was in practice. He seems like a good dude but he has a permanent case of the redass on the court during practice.

MIR, I trust your opinion on this; what are your thoughts on Mittie so far? Good/decent hire?
I heard the exact opposite MIR from a player. She said there wasn't even running in practice. Maybe things changed?

Ha! I was at this game and almost forgot about this. During timeouts they would drop those Hunger Games packages from the rafters. During a particular timeout, again, they dropped some packages. Well, one of them caught a draft of wind and began floating slowly towards the court as play resumed. It was probably 35 feet above the court as play moved to the opposite basket with the 'chute drifting over the court and coming down. Then it took a nose-dive, again during play, and some woman in the front row tried to grab it and then chased it onto the court. She tried to grab it, but couldn't as play started coming back to the near-side goal.
The woman freaked out and scampered across the court and some manager or assistant coach darted out and grabbed the thing just before it hit the ground and the players came back down court. Mittie was red as hell when all of this was going on.
Very
it's to early to tell, we haven't played anyone with a pulse. but it appears they will at the very least be competitive in big 12 play.at least we're beating dead people!

Good team. Good coaches.
Rumor is that Kaylee Page has opened a ksu.edu email account, which suggests she's enrolled. Some saying that sister Lanie will soon sign a LOI with us. We'll see...lots of rumors swirling around these kids.

We played much better after that horrendous start, still defended well tonight. This team is very offensively challenged.
What are the page sisters?!?!?!?!?

The next round of Olde, Wecker, etc. Except sisters from Wamego. Rated high by some thing called HoopGurlz (I'm not making that up).

What positions are they? 3? 4?
These sisters are indeed highly rated. Also am hearing they have high opinions of themselves (which can be good or bad). I understand this will be a good test of Mittie's ability to manage egos, and also to manage the expectations and influence of their father (their Wamego high school coach). Rumors out of Nub country imply that Kaylee transferred because she and/or her father felt she wasn't playing enough as a frosh. (Nubs gave her a release and also released Lanie, a WHS senior, from her LOI). Guess we'll wait and see, but I hope for the best.

Pretty huge development. On the negative side, they seem to be pretty Spradling/ Frankamp like with regard to their dad. On the positive side they're both very good. It'll be interesting to see what happens with the lineup if they both come on. Shaelyn Martin, a freshman out of Salina is a point-forward type player as well. Who knows where the minutes will go.
The Page sisters are very skilled and very polished, but I don't think either of them are the athlete that Martin is. Martin is impressive.
I was pretty surprised when Patterson didn't really seem to go after these two, but I've heard something about a falling out between Dad and Deb.
What positions are they? 3? 4?
Yes they are both forwards who can shoot and are freak athletes. Also don't be too freaked out about Kaylee not playing at Nebraska, they are stacked. In Lanie's class they got 3 top 100 players, 2 from NEKS. At least Deb was a finalist for these girls. Bonnie didn't have a shot, Lanie even had Tech as her 3rd finalist and they just tonight broke a 25 game Big 12 losing streak. Bonnie should have been getting anyone out of this state she wants but she is :flush: There are and always have been good girls players in Kansas and Bonnie has not done well here. If Mittie can do well in Kansas and keep using his Texas ties we'll be fine.

I've seen them play quite a bit. They have good handles, and are very skilled, but I didn't see them as outstanding athletes even at the 4A high school level. I'm not trying to under-sell them either. They definitely stood out as players, but compared to people like Ohlde, Wecker and even Anne Weese, from Sacred Heart in Salina who went to Notre Dame, their athleticism didn't wow me. Bishop-Meige blasted them in the title game last year and the athletic difference was palpable.
i was going to say the same thing about the athletic difference, definitely palpable. like, 100% palpable.

What's the reason there are so many very good female players from KS?
I want to stick to the 2-3 bit tonight and will comment more on the rest tomorrow. But why the eff are are playing a 2-3 against a team nailing 3 after 3 without the players to do it? Why are we wearing the players out chasing them down? I didn't get it. I loved the first half, but felt we were outcoached in the second half. It seemed Mittie had no plan for what they brought us in the second half. I feel I saw a legitimate core that I had not seen in a while on the court. But they were being misused. Maybe this is part of coach changing pains, but I saw a lot of good that I felt was misused.
Don't know if posted but Lanie is here on crutches wearing a boot.

great win for Mittie and The Squad.

Page sisters' dad?
I think Mittie will prevail in any dispute with Coach Page, if there is in fact any dispute. (Coach Page seems to be a great Cat booster during the games he attends). The sisters commit together here or they don't. They obviously didn't want to play for Deb...that may be why Kaylee transferred to KSU after the former staff left, and why her sister may come here after Deb's departure. Looking forward to these sisters in our lineup.
Page sisters dad is being fired from being the girls head bball coach at wamego after the season is done. I guess 5 varsity players quit, the only senior left is his daughter, that's all I know

I doubt he's going to get fired, they are 14-4. Those four losses are to three teams with a combined record of 65-10 and 20-4 in conference. With those results it's pretty tough to not think the players are being FPs, TCs, etc.

I'd be very happy about that. Very happy for little lady cats everywhere.you are a hero.
what if i told you we just beat the squawks 57-49 in the 1st round of the b12 tourney for a full 3x sweep?
The bad news is we get Baylor next.I look forward to updates ITT.
It seems like Mittie had a pretty decent first year. May have to catch a game if they're hosting Wnit.Deb's best player transfers and he got the leftovers...........he got that group to win 9 more games than Deb's last year......not too shabby

No it's not any harder than any other offense. Like any other offense the triangle is just a base offense with a series of reads, the more familiar you are with the offense the more reads you can make.
LOL at "Syracuse zone" whatever that means. We, like Syracuse, just run a zone. Syracuse's zone is noteworthy because the players in that zone are long and athletic.

Goodness that was horrawful :flush:Sounded really bad. That's several games in a row.
It wasn't pretty. Lewis has to be more aggressive. She tends to sulk when getting pushed around inside. And too many missed layups as a team. Martin continued to play well and took it to the rim more often than I recall seeing in the past. Tough road trip to Norman this weekend.that kind of beat down isn't really explained by sulking or a few missed layups.

That was fun the second quarter was amazingly painful though. It was brutal.

It was painful. Rebound coming, but probably not against West Virginia.
This team is all over the placeand will likely continue to be for at least a few weeks. This roster and the playing rotation has been very fluid in Mittie's three seasons.WBB n00b here. Is there a reason that #11 started yesterday? I seems that there are several other forwards on the team who are better.

I was really impressed w/ Willock and Page. Willock could be really good at the end of four years. Lewis finished almost every time she got the ball in the paint. This team is all over the placeand will likely continue to be for at least a few weeks. I'm really not sure what Mittie is looking for out of that other forward position. We seem to have a rotation of four players who play that position and who spell Breanna Lewis when she sits. Those three players are Williams (the #11 you speak of), Willock, Sheble, and Kaylee Page. IMO Page is the best of the four. Willock and Williams are both freshmen though. I think the talent in Willock is apparent but she absolutely makes glaring mistakes. I don't know why Williams seems to be the choice as the starter now but Page gets the most minutes, by far.
So it's Baylor and UConn for the Natty?
Baylor really 42 points better than us?
Anyone going this Saturday? Not sure where I'm sitting but SdK mom is handing our shirts.Wish I could. Out of town Saturday. Have a great time.

It's crazy that a middle of the Big 12, decent team in mbb can be consistently competitive with the top teams in the league, but in wbb they don't seem to belong on the same court.
1991-92 k-state @ osu (men's) 74-34 isn't far off from that
Women's basketball looks no differently than mens basketball did at this point in its development. It will take a lot longer for the women to achieve the competitive balance, NOT PARITY, that the men have now.

Was that when they played ND? Canary was just telling me about that.Yep I went to that game.

This is the fifth time we've hosted. That Notre Dame game was awful, terrible upset at the time, they won the national championship the next year.
I don't think we're going to make it out of Manhattan this year either. IF we beat Drake, they're very very very good, I don't think we have anything for Stanford.
I did. I didn't know you were around for pound sterling days. Intriguing.
Anyway. I was more pissed at the game today than I was about the men. So so so so many turnovers. Last I checked it was 17 in 30 minutes. Anyway. Glad they won. We are super long and play great defense. I think we give Stanford a game if we cut down turnovers and take open shots. Every girl played. This team is very deep.
I'm not sure why you were pissed, I tried to tell you guys how good Drake is, that was their first loss since December. I think we're going to get rolled on Monday night.
I'm not sure why you were pissed, I tried to tell you guys how good Drake is, that was their first loss since December. I think we're going to get rolled on Monday night. We literally passed the ball to them at least 10 times. Drake is good. But KSU should know not to pass to a blue jersey.
Mittie was a solid hire and a treat to watch coach. Im glad KSU has one solid bball coach.I did. I didn't know you were around for pound sterling days. Intriguing.

I'm just happy that Mittie appears to have been a solid hire. Maybe not elite, but he seems to have turned the ship around after Deb went downhill.
Would take!!!! She'd easily be the tallest player we've ever had right?
Kindred whooped everyone's ass (women and men) last night in the 3 point contest. :emawkid:It was fun to watch that contest last night. She made an an amazing 3/4 length shot in the team competition as well.

I watched from the start of the 2nd Q on. UCONN should have won, but they had no senior leadership like Miss St had. Great gameI thought the same thing. Miss St seemed to be directed on offense. UConn not so much. But when they called the flagrant 1 with under a minute left I thought UConn was going to win.
The flagrant 1 was one of the worst calls I've seen all season. Glad it didn't decide the game.Whether a foul should have been called didn't bother me. It just seemed like the officials felt the need to "help" UConn. I'm glad it didn't decide the game either. The miss st coach can thank his assistants for him not getting a T following that call.
I didn’t know it but Shalin Klein is one of the announcers. Has she done this for a few years?maybe a kstatehd thing

Peyton Williams (who had 31-19-6 today) is an absolute colossus and the Ladycats are SURGING. Just a game out of 3rd now after today's win in Norman.
Absolutely embarrassing display by the K-State women and the 'coaching' of Jeff Mittie at West Virginia!!! Took a 12 point lead at 56-44 with 4:36 left in the game. Still at 56-44 with 3:03 left. K-State proceeds to get off two shots (one blocked) for the remainder of the game and commit, get this, 7 turnovers, virtually all trying to get the ball in under the WVU basket against their press. Mittie then gets 2 technicals and kicked out of the game with 7 seconds left. West Virginia goes on a 21-0 run for the last 3:03 of the game to come from 12 down and win 65-56. Most epic collapse of total ineptitude I think I have ever witnessed in basketball even at the Junior High level!! Mittie, now in his 7th season with an All-American 6'-6" center is now 0-3 in Big 12 play and has a team and program in total disarray just like the men! Gene needs to get better options for both programs than these two John Currie hires!!!
It's definitely Covid and not at all that Mittie has shown stunning incompetence despite having fairly talented rosters (albeit rosters without point guards).
He is the Mark Fox/Andy Kennedy of Big 12 women's ball - average a 19-13 record every year, alternate between NIT/NCAA bids and continue to earn a paycheck because he (and his predecessor) collectively sucked the life-force out of the program.
But, if Mean Gene doesn't fire oscar, how can you fire Mittie when their respective seasons are basically the same (though I'd argue Mittie has more talent and was picked to finish in the top half of the league).
go ahead and take a bow, ayokaGOAT

You're probably right but she at least created that possibility a little bit yesterday. People can't ignore that game.
I think she had a wicked leg injury (maybe ACL) her senior year which is why I think the cats were able to scoop her up.

Just got ass kicked. This is a very average team
Fair. I was just told by some podcasts that they were must see and dominant so I expected more.
That first half was brutal.
Against Kamie Ethridge, Laurie Koehn, and Deb Patterson :Wha:lol, I literally watched that entire selection show, have several retweets about the game, and it didn't, for a second, occur to me that we're playing Washington State. I only cared what 1 seed we'd be matched with.
Just turned it on and it's been great!
Weird meltdown
I was very frustrated at the coaches too, KITH. However, the adjustment really wasn't anything they could have done other than finally pulling Ebert. The players eventually needed to be more aggressive in using dribble penetration to make the defense move to get Ayoka more room. The freshmen seemed intimidated by the moment but finally got into the game and I think Goodrich and Dallinger really helped them do so. I don't know if there was a lot for the coaches other than to continue to remind them to move the ball and be more aggressive to break the defense down and I'm certain they were doing that.we got some great minutes from them today, that was nice to see.
yes. only down 30I went to bed at the right time (halftime)
we'll always have 9-3They can't take that away from us
Awful...
Good thing Mittie already got his raise/extension.
Two of the top four players in women's basketball being out for the season is below not good
Paige Bueckers
Terribly sad for her. I'd be curious as to the difference between a WNBA deal vs the NIL money she seems to be pretty well at. Peggy Pos says another year of improvement for the undergrads and we could be real nasty when Ayoka comes back.

She would have gotten more bring drafted but the difference is shockingly close. If she went into the draft this year, her contract for the current season would have been between $69,000 and $66,000 not guaranteed BTW. She almost certainly would have retained most of her current endorsements, but the WNBA salary is a joke. You'd think all the new found, last 8 months, women's sports advocates would change some of this, lol yeah right.

And, as Griner's situation has made clear - the majority of women's b-ball players make more overseas than they do in the WNBA (in many cases, significantly more). So, if you assume Yoki would have also played overseas, that probably tips the balance.
Yeah this team is going to be fun to watch.
I'm all in on Gabby this year.
Having Yoki out makes this even more impressive, and also more like :surprised: good this team would be with her
I'm all in on Gabby this year.
She looks like she spends a lot of time on the weights.
If she can actually shoot like that, they're going to be a real problem. Not to completely disregard this season but if she stays for her COVID season next year and they start her with Sundell and the Glenn twins around Ayoka they will be final four contenders.

Probably not the time for this but women's basketball polls are rough ridin' awful. K-State at 25 and Iowa 9 is absurd. Iowa shouldn't be anywhere close to the top 10 right now.
We were a top 25 team last year. Losing Ayoka Lee really hurt. If she's back and healthy next year her and Gabby Gregory will be ridiculous next year, should be competing for the Big 12.

Yeah she's coming back, already announced it. She came here to play with Ayoka. Ebert and Shematsi were the only seniors recognized yesterday. Ebert will not take her COVID year, she's retiring from basketball. Shematsi has no eligibility left.

Glad to hear that Gabby and Lee are coming back. Did Shematsi spend her whole career with the Cats. She had some nice moments yesterday.

I think the Ohlde/Koehn/Wecker/Mahoney teams would be the only ones that you could argue. Probably Ohlde's senior year (03-04, I think) - Coggins was on that team too, but I don't think she played much. As usual, Deb flamed out in the tourney - though they had to play at Minnesota (with Lindsey Whalen) in the second round, which was BS. But, they won the Big 12 and finished top 10 in the final poll IIRC
holy crap

Now I have FOMO. Is this on The Plus, or what?
Maybe we'll get a crap ton of makeup calls down the stretchjust enough so at the end it doesn’t look quite so disparate
MIR!i texted him the screenshot ;o
I'll be live and in living color. We're gonna get our asses kicked though. My goodness, have you ever been right?
Yeah she's good, but man Clark is a volume shooter.
Are we good good? Or just good?
K-State and Iowa were tied 13-13 after the first quarter and the Cyclones took a 30-29 lead into halftime. Iowa led 44-42 after three quarters. The game featured eight ties and nine lead changes. K-State led for 18:04 and Iowa for 13:21.
the freshmen were really impressive. The Sides 3 from the logo caught me so off guard. We had a couple amazing crowd silencers on the night. Are we good good? Or just good?
This is at minimum a top 15 team. I don't want to be that guy but outside of Zy "the human handcuffs" Walker and maybe Taryn Sides, we played woman for woman, not great, including Yokie.
we're going to beat their asses again thanksgiving weekend
In my view, the floor for this team should be top 4 Big 12 finish and top 5 NCAA tourney seed. We also have the Mittie factor to consider, but the pieces are there to make a serious run.

He coached his ass off last night and in both Iowa games. He can teach a clinic on how he handled that foul trouble without going zone, fouling anyone out, or putting the team in the position where they were offensively handcuffed or where they gave Clark a breather. Coaches are as good as their talent and he's built the deepest roster in the conference.

No doubt, but he's had talent in the past and pissed it away. This is obviously the best team he's had, so I'm hopeful/cautiously optimistic he'll finally breakthrough with a legit top 25 type of season
Have we been to a lady F4?
ksu ladycats now ranked #16 in the AP poll.
ksu ladycats now ranked #16 in the AP poll.i was expecting 8-12, which is where we should land after beating unc and iowa next weekend in florida. 16 is a joke.
Smoller-vision for me today. 25-9 2nd quarter for the Ladycats, led by Sundell with 11. Our defense is going to wear a lot of teams down. Up 14 at halftime.
Another day, another win :gocho:Cats!
Up to #13 after beating a 5-1 Jackson State team by 40. McNeese State and a trip to St. Joe's to play Mizzou this week.
It wasn't the lighting, it was the equipment. Even my 14 year old asked "why does the it look so bad, are they making it look like high school on purpose."My 12yo daughter noted the horrible broadcast quality and the fact that people would never tolerate it for a men's game.
@UCF will be a bloodbath. OU after will be a decent test, but Tejas is the one to watch for

Texas just lost their potential all-american PG to a season-ending injury last week and then they lost their first game of the year at home to Baylor (ranked No. 10) last weekend. They're still plenty good (destroyed Tech tonight), but if we bring our A game and don't commit 20 TOs like we did tonight, we have a pretty decent chance, particularly since we're at home.
so, can we break the no natty in basketball thing or, maybe next year?
The pollsters absolutely hate and disrespect our guts :curse: Cats drop a spot to #12 this week.n00b question: are the S16 and Elite8 games played on campus or do they go to a neutral site after the first 2 rounds?
kinda sleepy in the third quarterthey woke up! defense is nasty.
Awesome win.
Not ladycats but wtf happened to Baylor
Was at last night's game. Bramlage looked like it was at less than 50% capacity. Will be interesting to see what Saturday's turnout looks like. This team should be selling out their games.

I was there too! Great game.
Helluva way to end the 3rd quarterIncredible play.
Three straight defensive stops is called a gap. The gap goat is a mascot for getting a gap. Research shows that getting 7 gaps in a game gives that team a 94% chance of winning.
#7 in the AP - finally had a couple more losses in front of us.
17-1 with our only loss to the current #2 (who we also beat at their place). Exciting times!
@ TCU (they've lost 4 in a row to start 2024) and home for KU this week.
I don't think Walker has been talked about enough. She has had some really good minutes over the past several games.I love walker’s “swagger”

Am I seeing rumors of a significant WBB injury?
Am I seeing rumors of a significant WBB injury?
You are, but you shouldn't worry. Spaces laid out the injuries. Lee has been dealing with an ankle injury for a couple of weeks. The rumors of her having a long term injury is cap. I do think it's within the realm of possibility that she might not play tomorrow, but there's no long term issue.

Seems like we should be worried then. No clue how we can win @BU and @Texas now, let alone @ISU. Seems like most likely the regular season title is probably going to be very, very hard to achieve.
Just hope she can make a fully recovery and full force by tourny time.

We have a two game lead. Texas lost their all american for the season. Baylor just lost to two teams that will be bubble teams this year.
Maupin was fantastic, v happy for her. Big game from Brylee Glenn as well. Sundell had 3 blocks, 3 steals, and 7 assists to go along with 15 and 6. What a player!Maupin and B Glenn haven't filled up the boxscore much lately. So many weapons on this team. I think they will continue to roll thru the conference even without Lee.
#3, 4, and 6 all lost this week and #2 Iowa plays a ranked opponent on the road tomorrow. Ladycats should skyrocket in the polls again before their trip to Waco on Monday.
Baylor was shaky again today, only beating a now 0-6 UCF team at home by 3 as 26-point favorites.

That was the single best win in program history.First win in Waco in 21 years. Absolutely incredible :excited:
I freaking love this team. Her Jermaine Maybank moment but we actually won the game.
And we have a player capable of going for 16 pts and 9 boards on the road at Baylor who has just been hanging out on the bench for 19 games??? Incredible depth on this team.
Is this the team that gets KSU a natty?

That's right. She's been hidden because Mittie has given Sanchez waaaaaayyyyy too long of a leash, she does not have it for this level. Luckily this hasn't cost us a game and Maupin just snatched those minutes without us having to take a loss to do so.

I agree on the leash with Sanchez - been a rough stretch of games with her lately. But, I saw some things earlier in the year that make me think she's got potential to be a key contributor down the road. She was big in the UNC win (15 points) and even with playing fairly limited minutes all year, she's still second on the team in rebounding. Probably never great defensively, but I think scoring potential is there.
This is going to be a very tough week for us and I hope people don't freak out if/when we go 0-2.
#2 is still good :ksu:
I would be okay if this was the face of the plateau.#2 is still good :ksu:

How has the environment in the OOD been this year for our Lady Cats?
It was not a great game for Sanchez. Great job scoring but she's the worst defender in the conference and for the third game in a row she was a nightmare with the ball in her hands down the stretch.100%
This is going to be a very tough week for us and I hope people don't freak out if/when we go 0-2.i had hoped that you were going to be wrong about this

Awful no-call on Crooks as Gregory drives the baseline and gets pushed out of bounds. Borderline call on us on the next possession to get ISU up by one, then Sundell doesn't get the same call on the other end.it’s getting harder and harder to watch a game where, especially in wbb, the officials aren’t noticeably bad.

with that said, had we not played like dumbasses at the end of OT we would have won the game. the turnovers in both overtimes cost us the game, not the officiating. after watching us give ISU the ball repeatedly, i felt like we didn’t deserve to win.

BTW, Audi Crooks played 1A basketball last year and it was as hilarious as you think it would be. She's a dominant true freshman.

She was definitely good and, not to be a dork, but purely based on her physique, I was impressed with her stamina.
I also thought the kid from Derby was really good for a frosh. No idea if there's a story there as to why she picked ISU, but she's going to a force for the next 3 years.

Looks like she averaged 33 pts and 13 rebounds as a senior last year. Also, I had forgotten about Emily Ryan's HS career in KS -- 3rd all time in scoring (behind Jackie Stiles and Laurie Koehn), her HS teams went 104-0 (granted it was against KS 1A and 2A competition).
That kiss was to you!? Lol I noticed her doing it but figured it was to a teammate on the bench or something.
Frustrating game but it's nice to have Yokie back. Time to go win out.

Anybody hear rumors that Yoky might come back next year? Is she even eligible? MIR? Would be increds. She is eligible, there's no scuttlebutt as to what she's going to decide to do. She's already practicing as a family counselor, so I'm not taking that as a great sign she's coming back. Her injury history doesn't make her a WNBA sure thing. I doubt that she makes her mind up and makes an announcement before April.
May be hard to catch OU. Outlook for finishing 2nd seems good. Unless I'm missing something, they are pretty much a lock for one of the top 4 seeds in the Ladies Phillips. Team is not going to win much, kind of a shamemy man, it’s a road loss in a rivalry game
Not getting anything from Gabby is really hurting us. This was supposed to be a big three but it's really a big 1 3/4. Luckily there's 10 days between the Big 12 Championship game and the first day of the tournament. This team is beat to hell, more than standard for a basketball team.
Also, what in the crap was this?

idk man these girls look tiredGet this one on the road. Go rest for a week and then reboot for the conference tourney. Thankfully, they don't have to play again until the quarterfinals. I think the energy in KC will be good for them.

Sundell should be 1st team all big 12. My unsung hero is Jaelyn Glenn. She rarely comes out of the game and she’s an elite defender and one of our better outside shooters.https://twitter.com/kstatewbb/status/1765109484324540806?s=46&t=lwfIEH6RtBPJuhAZrJcdZg
Ladycats currently ranked #16 in the Coaches Poll. Will one win in KC clinch home games in the Torn-a-ment or do they need a win in the semis also?
Not so bad now
Got the lead nowVery fun rally in 2Q. Nice group of Cat fans here in KC. Just keep the foot on the gas.
Well what a cut (for me). Listening on the varsity, and at one moment they are up 9, it skips and it's tied at 51 :frown:

At home, Colorado's lost 6 of their last 8, they play a slow pace, Lee will have a 3 inch height advantage against their center, they're not really great in any particular area (though they do shoot it fairly well from 3 pt) - this is as good of a draw to get to the Sweet 16 as we could have asked for.Am I missing something? Wouldn't you say that the bracket containing S. Carolina is the toughest?
After that - arguably the toughest of all 4 brackets.
we’re basically 2-0 against iowa this yearI agree with this, but I’d like to know why YOU think so, and not because I have no reasons of my own and am just a go lady cats homer.
Lady Cats 3:30 pm tip with CU vs Drake to follow up at 6 pm. Seems backwards.Maybe 3 more hours of rest for the home team (FWIW)? I'm not going to be able to make it to the OOD that early. Any idea what time they would play on Sunday?

I think he means depth of teams at the regional. South Carolina is one of the best teams of all time, they will win the national championship. Unfortunately, I will have us losing to LSU in the regional final. Having to play the second best team in the country to get to the final four after beating the best player is unfortunate.

Wouldn't you say that the bracket containing S. Carolina is the toughest?
After that - arguably the toughest of all 4 brackets.
I think he means depth of teams at the regional. South Carolina is one of the best teams of all time, they will win the national championship. Unfortunately, I will have us losing to LSU in the regional final. Having to play the second best team in the country to get to the final four after beating the best player is unfortunate.
Correct on all accounts...
Oddsmakers have SC as the overwhelming favorite (-120!), but No. 2 is Iowa (+550) and No. 3 is LSU (+900).
what time will they play sunday?TBD at this point
If anyone is wanting tickets for Sunday since we will be winning on Friday with me and my family there. I can get my second session tickets to anyone that wants a pair or all four for $15 a piece. They have Chairbacks. We bought tickets for both sessions but cannot make sunday in manhattan.
Could this team be any more endearing?I imagine K-State media team will release something about it but the women's team helped officiate/score/coach the Special Olympics state basketball tournament on Saturday. Just when you thought they couldn't get more likable.

This half is a bit of an indictment against our coaching staff. They keep trying to force the ball into players who aren't open. No adjustments
It looks like the only thing we practiced this season was passing it into Lee even if she was getting blocked almost every time. I feel like we had other players worthy of getting a play called for them a time or two, but maybe I'm wrong.

I feel like we had other players worthy of getting a play called for them a time or two, but maybe I'm wrong. They got good looks for Gabby and Serena in the first half but both teams teams knew that were trying to get the ball to Lee everytime in the second half. Great defensive effort down 10 to start 4Q. They cut the lead to six but had what seemed like five empty possessions after that.
Seems like they left 2 or 3 layups on the table in the fourth quarter when they really, really needed a basket. It looks like the only thing we practiced this season was passing it into Lee even if she was getting blocked almost every time. I was pretty critical of Mittie on twitter, and I stand by that, but there were plenty of opportunities for the guards to make plays but they didn't. Sundell and the Glenn twins were completely psyched out in the second half. We should have seen the freshmen guards but Mittie didn't recognize that Lee and Gregory were the only two starters who didn't shrink in the moment.
Deb Patterson 2.0. Why didn't Maupin see more minutes? This half is a bit of an indictment against our coaching staff. They keep trying to force the ball into players who aren't open. No adjustments
That sums up Mittie's entire career... he will not have a better team than this year and we couldn't even make it to the 2nd weekend.
Not an x's and o's expert but I think she would have been a liability on defense against their bigs.Deb Patterson 2.0. Why didn't Maupin see more minutes? This half is a bit of an indictment against our coaching staff. They keep trying to force the ball into players who aren't open. No adjustments

MIR said it - Sundell and the Glenns were pretty bad yesterday (especially in the 2nd half) and their minutes/usage rates all year have been off the charts (Sundell and Jaelyn). That's on Mittie for not getting Sides and Walker - two pretty talented players - more involved in the rotation, especially earlier in the year.
There could/should be a reckoning coming this offseason into next year for those three. Sundell has to take better care of the ball (less than a 2:1 assist to TO ratio this year) and she has to be more assertive offensively. The Glenns need to produce offensively, especially Jaelyn. Ideally, their minutes/usage would go down by default next year with the assumption of Walker/Sides getting better. But, if they can't step up/improve, then more minutes should be lost. Jaelyn was 37% from 3 pt last year and was barely 30% this year. Has to be better because we need her scoring.
Honestly, for her long term health I think she should go. She doesn't have much else to prove and next years team might be pretty poor.long term health what?
Her knees mainly.unless her knee is failing off, there’s probably nothing better for her long term health than continuing her tenure as a d1 athlete
Wouldnt Lee likely make considerably more money with much less competition if she stays?
Ok, that makes more sense. I’ll take your word on the finances part. I just read a couple mocks that projected her around pick #20, and one speculated she’d likely start off from the bench as a role player. Said she needs to work on more mid-range shooting and ability to run the floor?? I live in an area that has a wnba team and I dont recall seeing players in ads or print. It’s almost nonexistent, but I’m admittedly not looking for it either. That lead me to guess a role player probably wouldnt make much as a wnba spokesperson. I hope Im mistaken.Wouldnt Lee likely make considerably more money with much less competition if she stays?
A couple of things here. First, her choice wasn't between staying and going to the wnba. Her choice was between going into her career as a counselor full time, or playing one more year while continuing to work, part time. Second, if the choice was between the wnba and coming back to play and collect some nil, she likely would have made more in the wnba, even with the tiny salary of $72,000 that she would have gotten. Endorsement deals aren't specific to college athletes and she wasn't just handed 6 or 7 figures, for nothing, like some college athletes are.

Iowa is a game away from knocking off LSU, UCONN and SC on the way to a Natty.
6-3 forward from Mo State...

https://twitter.com/kstatewbb/status/1777143820427129316hell yeah. it would be just too damn hard to walk away, glad she’s coming back.
She'll break the points record within the first month of the season.WHOSE RECORD AND WITH WHAT SIZE BALL?!?!?
We made Van Lith's transfer shortlist.i mean bro
i really like hailey van lith, even though she’s an adidas athlete
We made Van Lith's transfer shortlist.
just stop. now, I can agree that she would further complicate an already complicated roster situation and as s2’s biggest fan on this whole message board, I don’t think HVL is taking her minutes, but she’s a very good player nonetheless. We made Van Lith's transfer shortlist.
Man, I hope this doesn't happen. She's a great value Serena Sundell

i just don’t see her minutes on this roster as it stands today, but I also don’t know what next year’s roster will look like so perhaps she will fill a need that we’re not aware of.

Offensively she's literally a carbon copy of Sundell but sightly worse almost completely across the board. Defensively it isn't close. HVL is an unathletic shrimp. We already have one unathletic shrimp guard but she's a freshman not a senior and a better shooter.

Van Lith is a better free throw shooter but she doesn't take as many, of course, and she doesn't turn it over as much.
It'd be nice to have that added experience. But we'll see
HVL would almost certainly cost development time for Sides, but, conceptually, I very much like the idea of playing SS off ball a bit more - especially when she goes on TO frenzies (seems like they always happen in bunches).

Moving Serena off the ball would be nice, but Mittie is absolutely not going to do that. When either of the freshmen guards came in he still had Serena bring the ball up and initiate the offense. The point about HVL taking away minutes from the freshmen guards is my greatest reservation about her. It just doesn't make sense to me. If anything we need to be looking for a small forward to replace Gregory, but it looks like we are gonna roll with 3 combo guards and two bigs.
I've had three different people send me the pic of her and Talia Bon Oelhoffen in Mexico. I'm glad women's basketball has a lot of new fans, but holy hell there's a crap load of horny dudes absorbing this content. Gabby also needed help from someone with better monetizing her stuff.Does the athletic dept have a program to keep players safe from stalkers and psychos? There was a guy at the CU game holding up a "CALL ME GABBY" sign with his phone#. I thought it was just cringey but my daughter was like "that is really gross and potentially scary and I hope he isn't stalking her IRL."
