Oh, i'm sure he was great, cf3. I just don't read up on my teams the next day anymore. I understand having to be neutral when it comes to this stuff. I rather blog about the game with my friends, than read someones else's few point on it.

based upon cf3's description of what makes a KC beat writer, i can only hope that dan rather agrees to come out of retirement
or maybe anderson cooper is down with the gig

and lol at a beat writer not being a fan of the team he covers.  i mean, go kellis ku hawk cat beat writer i guess.

Cheesy Mustache QB might make an appearance.

I guess if you can separate your fandom from your work that's fine, but I like having someone with the team every night who is objective and doesn't care if they win or lose.

i think you can be both objective and a fan.  like the cats and a lot of posters here.  and unless you are a psychopath, it seems like it would be difficult to spend as much time with and around a team and not form an attachment with them.

if he couldn't get along with kc players because he was being "honest", los angeles is going to eat him alive.  hopefully he likes sushi better than bbq tho.

mccollough went out of his way to make sure everyone knew just how objective he was and his act was contrived.

i kind of liked that he wasn't a starry eyed CF3(no offense CF3)-type local guy and also that he wasn't lee judge

none taken. I'd be a horrible beat writer, although I think I'd be a good fan site reporter or blogger. I think WC and others don't understand the job of a beat writer. If he's a fan, its detrimental to his ability to cover the team IMO. He was objective, didn't care if the players liked him (holland and dyson hated him), and gave fans great coverage for 2 years. Go back and read his Chris Young story from after Game 4 of the ALCS, or his story on the Wild Card game from September of this year, or his story on Game 2 of the World Series, all were fantastic. Captured the moment, told the story, without being a fan boy. The Star is not a fan site and their writers shouldn't be expected to behave like D Scott.

I did not realize this.

I enjoyed Andy and Ned's interactions.

Holland hated him because he spent the whole year talking about his decline, Dyson because he revealed that a lot of the guys were addicted to Clash of Clans or some dumb video game. Ironically Cain was another who was part of the gaming crew that was outed, but Cain and Andy seemed to get along well. Andy really seemed to like Cain as a player and a person.

I don't what all was written, but I believe there was an issue with the organization thinking the players didn't care enough about baseball. It was in one of their slumps in 2014 I think.

unless they trade him today, i'd assume they'll still tender butera.  they already released pena and have room on the 40.  unless i'm mistaken they can release him until opening day without having to guarantee his salary.  so i'd imagine they'll keep him until the end of spring training or until they need to make room on the 40 for incoming free agent signings, whichever comes first.

dunno, tho.  baseball roster stuff is so complicated.

Today is the arbitration deadline. There's 7 players the royals have to pay or they're released like free agents. Rumors that Butera will be released. Also, maybe Luis Coleman.  :crossfingers:
