i do not know what that means, and i don't even rly want to hazard a guess. at any rate, if anyone in this thread is at all interested in other commerical fish picks and just fishing related things from southeast ak and bristol bay, i'm happy to share. done/seen some neat things over the years and we do make time for some sport fishing each summer, tho i don't do it much in my "real" life.

we caught a few this summer (i know, putting a net in the water is cheating), but there was time for some decent sport fishing. mostly halibut and crab. also enjoyed quite a few oysters, which obvs there is no "catching" involved there. anyway, never been to this thread before. great pics, guys!

How many adorable baby dolphins are in that net? :(

have caught a porpoise before, which was fairly traumatizing for all involved. especially as were forced to get a machete and hack its tail off bc we couldn't free it from the net any other way. just awful. whales also do go in your net, but since they are so big just just absolutely destroy your net and swim on thru, just all like, am whale, dngaf. which, good for them, but sucks when yr on wheel and you suddenly realize half your corkline is floating by the port side bc a humback just incinerated 10 fathoms of your gear.

by catch in both seining and gillnetting is actually incredibly low due to biologist and fisherman knowing how to target the fish in effective ways that were not available 50 years ago. most of the by-catch is jellyfish (0/10 have taken many jelly stings to the eyes over the year, wow, shitty), kelp, and other inorganic things.

will look. guys def go halibut commercial fishing. it's called longlining. boats are usually rigged for trolling as well. people who own quote from like the 70's from when it was super cheap have made millions on it. dangerous fishery though for many reasons. seiners also occasionally catch them (can't sell if you're a salmon boat and so have to throw back or fillet). when i trolled, i had to pick lots of halibut off our lines (small ones, 30-40 lbs) and throw them back bc we were targeting king salmon and keeping by-catch there was super illegal/frowned upon, but of course does happen.

couple more. 1) when we "caught a seiner" in clarence strait this july. super mumped night. kid driving their boat never saw our net and we tried to tow them out with the line you see. that white crap floating in front of them is our corkline. net was all wrapped up in their prop/wheel. destroyed a bunch of our gear. And 2) whales bubble feeding in near coffman cove in early august. amazing.

Did some pregame fishing today.  2 lb crappie and 4 lb bass amongst the 31 we cleaned.

Skinless filet and soak in salt water.  No complaints.

Tom, I'm going to need some fish recipes from you.  My tried and true recipe is just batter then in corn meal and fry them but I need some other recipes besides frying.

What do you got for me?

Also great looking fish, makes me want to get out there today and feel the tug!
