The New Joe Montgomery Birther Pit / Re: GOP Battledome Trump v Ryan
« on: October 11, 2016, 07:17:33 PM »I think the republicans would do themselves a lot of good if they had a meeting every year where they sit everyone down and explain exactly why they support the things they do, too. Like coal, for example. Maybe if they could articulate that supporting coal creates middle class jobs for uneducated people while lowering energy costs, that would be a better strategy than claiming that global warming doesn't exist.
it WOULD be great if they had those meetings, but it would also be great if they told the truth in those meetings. like how, the current global price of coal doesn't in fact support a glut of American middle class jobs.
The price of coal would probably go up if there were new coal plants demanding it.
If there was a demand for new coal plants, coal companies would probably be building them.
Ultimately, it comes down to the fact that we live in a post-industrial world, and as our demand for power continues to increase exponentially over the next century, we need to be moving towards new and cheaper modes of power generation (with an emphasis on clean power generation since the negative effects of pollution are compounded by population growth).
I think that if you remove the excessive regulation, coal would be a whole lot cheaper than it is right now.
but at what price to other economic sectors like healthcare and agriculture? energy doesn't exist in a vacuum.
