:surprised: i'll be in kauai very very soon

pro tips, plz. polihale beach already noted.

I cannot rec. the sunset dinner tour enough on this boat.

http://www.napali.com/tours/ss/

This was great.  Thanks for the suggestion.  mrstdaver was skeptical going in and when it rained the first hour, was not looking good.  Then we hit the jackpot.  The skies cleared, we saw some dolphins, got up to amazing Napali coast and there's a rainbow leadin into the Kalalau valley, and then we boozed all the way back with the sun setting behind us and Van Morrison's "Into the Mystic" playing. Definitely one of the highlights of the trip.

for anyone else going to Kauai, this waterfall rappelling trip was a blast

http://www.islandadventureskauai.com/tours/hawaiian-dundee.php

Ke’e beach was one of my favorites.  Hike the Kalalua trail to up to Hanakapi'ai Falls. Will probably rain and get muddy. Go back to beach after and rinse off, snorkel, etc.  Start early to beat crowds on the trail.

If there’s a chocolate lover in your group, we took a tour of a chocolate farm (Steelgrass, I think).  Tried a bunch of crazy tropical fruits and then chocolate tasting at the end.

Puka dogs are delicious in an almost puni sort of way
Shaved ice is stupid and gross
Great cheap poke: sleeping giant grill in wailua
Great coffee everywhere

Beaches everywhere range from medium to excellent based on these factors:
-How many derps are everywhere derping around?
-how good are the waves for bodysurfing or whatever you plan on doing?
-what is the sand to rock/coral ratio (foot comfort awareness)
-what's the scenery like?

Polihale is sparsely populated, really great waves, and has zero rocks/coral to damage your fragile midwestern feet. You have to drive 20 mins on a gravel road which may seem like a bad idea but I saw tlb rentals doing it. Amaze cliff views bc it's like at the start of na pali coast.

Golfing at wailua is like $40, amaze course with like 6 beach holes

Do either a helo tour or boat tour of na pali coast. I recommend kauai sea tours. It's like $150 for about 6 hrs of snorkeling, the amaze coast views, dinner, and all you can slam mai tais. There are other tour companies as well, I'm sure they're all good

Hike at least part of one of the wailea canyon trails depending on your desire to descend/climb a bunch. But there's goats and stuff everywhere which is pretty hilarious, and some great views of the canyon periodically

Our group went to costco for breakfast food and beach snacks, ate out for occasional dinner or whatever. Sampler packs of HI beers for days. Just go explore and see stuff.

Napali coast is a must hike and boat. Hike from the north. sail from the south. Use this one:

https://www.napali.com/star/

Merrimans is the best restaurant on the island

If you can split your stay in half do so. half on the south, half on the north. don't do anything on the east except drive by it.

you should really try to do it. it's incredible. if you do the snorkel one in the morning you'll get dolphins riding the front of the boat all the way out. if you do the evening the sunset is intense.

I like that Delta lets me book exit row without paying anything since I booked through my corporate portal or whatever since I don't have status with them. also their paid first class upgrades are probably the cheapest out there. Nice work Delta.

Get out of Jacksonville. Amelia Island, St. Augustine. Eat Spanish food, drink Sangria.

Amelia Island looks like fun.  I'll look into a side trip there.
