Essentially Flyertalk / RIP pvegs
« on: March 28, 2021, 09:31:12 AM »
Another great Cat gone too soon. This was shared on KSO by his father and I thought you all should be aware. I never met pvegs in person, but I always enjoyed interacting here and at KSO.

Quote
This is Phil Vega, dad of Paul Vega who was known by fellow Foundation posters as pvegs. He unexpectedly died early Wednesday morning March 24 at his home in Seattle. Paul was born in Kansas, but due to my job we moved when he was just 7. But he became a huge Wildcats fan. Prompted by me, KSU Class of 1975. And also his godfather who would send us VHS tapes of the games and annual basketball and football media guides.
Paul was lucky to begin being cognizant of sports at the start of HCBS‘s remarkable rebuild of the football program. This resulted in him being the only kid in his Arizona classrooms to be wearing a Michael Bishop jersey or other Wildcats gear.
The Cats played in several bowls while we were in Arizona. The most fun we attended was the 1997 Fiesta Bowl when we put it to Syracuse.
He was on this board daily, we would talk frequently about what you all were saying. And I know he direct messaged many of you to discuss all the fine points of Wildcats sports. Most every basketball and football game he and I would text sharing our disappointments and our thrills at various Wildcats plays.
Wherever he lived he brought EMAW fandom to every one he met. It’s something nearly everyone he worked with has mentioned to us in Seattle as we prepare for his services.
To close I want to say this board, this circle of fans, stretches across the nation. We are all bound together by our love of sports and the Wildcats. Those are ties that won’t be broken, no matter the success produced on the courts or football fields.

“We're probably one of the best nine seeds in the history of the Pac-12, to be honest,” Hurley said. “We didn't run through the (conference) schedule the way we needed to. Our record should be better. We didn't get the job done there – that's on me. ... But I think teams still will get ready for us because they respect what we've done.”

Jerome Tang Coaches Kansas State Basketball / Shaka!

Will be interesting to see if Shaka actually tries to use their length or will just let his bad shooting team continue to shoot 3s.

Last time they started Sims and posted him early against Sneed with success, but then went away from it.

I think the Cats get another home win, 72-65.

Snow in the forecast for Texas always reminds me of when Phineas Atchison took down TJ Ford and co. in a blizzard. Good time.

Anyone else doing this? Looks like it should be fun.

Note, you don't have to be "young alumni". I am obviously not that.

Stats are late, I attended the KSO party and didn't get back until late.

Lots of ugliness in this low possession game. The bench did nothing. The Cats missed shots. We got killed on the boards. But Diarra and Wade made a bunch of plays the last 8 minutes and we took advantage of the FT line. Ugly win, but we'll take it.

These Cats can play. Big Game Barry and #DEANWOLF continue to impress.

The Big 12's worst offense so far. Solid defense, especially on 2s.

Solid group of players, but nothing great so far in Big 12 play.

Hopefully we can force TOs, not get killed on the boards, finish vs their length, and hit some 3s.

11

Nice to grind out a win when we didn't exactly play our best. Still, Mawien was big along with Barry and Dean. Great week for the Cats.

12
Destroyed them in the 2nd half...

Barry, Wade, Sneed, Diarra continue to impress.

13

Pass the ball Barry.

The first 15 minutes featured some of the most inept basketball I've ever seen from a K-State team. Sure, they fought a bit and made it somewhat interesting for a bit, but man. Thanks for Barry, Dean, and Cartier showing up to play.

16
Wade is a stud.

Kam is a stud.

Barry is good.

Sneed is good.

Wainright is good.

Mawein.... fouls a lot.

BTW, this team has 4 games at 1.3 points per possession or better this year. No K-State team has had more than 3 games that efficient in any single season for the last 16 years.

Kansas State Football / I don't know what this season is/was...
« on: November 25, 2017, 09:12:38 PM »
But it wasn't 2004 or 05.

Regardless, today I'm happy. I got to experience a great K-State moment with my son. Go Cats.

18

FWIW, the Cats are currently #2 in efficiency defense (PPP), #3 in eFG% defense, #2 in TO% forced, #6 in 2PT% defense, & #2 in steal%.

Of course, they have also played the #334 SOS so far this season.

19
IMO we still need one of these. I would like to take my son to the game Friday and am fine with paying $10 or whatever online, but if you have a couple or 3 to give away I'd take them off of your hands.

Kansas State Football / Stay and cheers or slam some beers?

Was a great atmosphere for 'cruits to see.

Yes, it was pretty good.

I will be "that guy" and say the half full, post halftime crowd while everyone finishes their beers or whatever is annoying.

Kansas State Football / Just another 7-8 win team
« on: September 16, 2017, 10:03:11 PM »
We'll win some Big 12 games. Probably 5 or 6. Its just disappointing when we expected so much more.

Ertz isn't as good of a thrower and our WRs just might not be very good. Vandy is solid, butour offense just was poor. The numbers don't lie, we weren't efficient in any measurable way.

Really early Big 12 stats for Bill Connelly's 5 factors. These are really distorted based on small sample size and a wide variety of opponent strength, etc.

Also, K-State offensive stats with just the 1s (Ertz).

Disappointing, not surprising. I fed on my EMAW optimism this week, but this game is the reality of who we are and who we will be for as long as the current coach is retained.

25
post here.

Completely different pace, defense, etc. Will be an interesting contrast in style from Wake.
