Title: Wednesdays, almost halfway through
Post by: Trim on January 24, 2018, 03:57:24 PM
With all teams having played 8 games, there is clear separation between the Wednesdays and the Thursdays.  Can KSU still claw its way into a Wednesday slot?  It will be tough to unseat Baylor and ISU having already won in their respective homes.  Opportunities remain however to lose on the road to OSU and TCU.  The remaining home-and-away series with Texas also looms large.  Stay tuned.

Now officially at the halfway point, the 'cats have moved to just one game out of wednesday top seed position.  Next week's game in Austin is HUGE.

'cats take care of business on the road, while osu shows signs of not having what it took to get the berth.

A key 3-game stretch upcoming - the road games at texas and osu are huge, but oscar also can't afford another slip-up against a top-10 team at home this coming saturday.

The current standings look to be very reflective of how those good these teams actually are, maybe swap WVU and OU, maybe swap K-State and UT, otherwise that's perfect.

And those two pairings have head-to-head games this week!  :excited:

Leaving this to default sagarin expected results, KSU would get a top wednesday seed.  :ksu:

But as we know, games aren't one in some dork predicto model, and certainly not from some flood & mold aggie's interpretation of it.  Keep rowing the boat, oscar.

It's likely going to come down to the TCU rematch.

If we finish 2-6, which would actually be 2-8, oscar is gone

And he should be in this scenario. It would be very 2012 Illish.

I'm fine with either result,  I'd like to see us in the tourney but I'm feeling better and better about mustang and his ability to hire a decent bball coach

2-6 seems pretty improbable.

Are you calling jeff sagarin a liar?

i may be.

20% seems a little high, but that's probably because i haven't internalized the information contained in the -38 mov as uncritically as sagarin and kenpom have.

Damaging W tonight from oscar, making the 2/21 rematch against texas in the fOOD a virtual must-lose.

The 'cats can get on track by losing these next two before destroying isu.

There will be no parking Thursday near the sprint center so this is suboptimal

If oscar wins at osu and vs texas, you're best off trying to get a short-term lease on a place down there that has parking included.

'cats take care of business yesterday, but still a LOT of work to do after this past midweek W at Texas.

Giant game this midweek at OSU.

Yeah. And people will wildly overreact after each any mild surprise and we will come out the other side as a bubble team

isu at home, obviously.

i don't pretend to any great insight about this team or any of its upcoming opponents.  kenpom predicts them to go 3-3 and i think they're a little bit better than kenpom does.  they have a very easy remaining schedule.

In order, likely to least likely.

ISU
UT
BU
@OSU
@TCU
@OU

We shot and scored well against all of them the first time. Most don't particularly care to play defense. 4-2 is very doable.

I would be pleasantly surprised by 4-2 but i just don't see it.  Can we make the tourney at 9-9?   It's hard for me to imagine a scenario where oscar loses his job at the end of this year.

It’s usually a good sign when you’re in the top half of the standings and are finished playing every team above you. Is KSU regressing back to being crap or are we just a legit top 5 Big 12 program incapable of playing above ourselves?

they're 9-1 against teams equal to or worse than tulsa.

The 'cats blow an opportunity to, absurdly late in the season, create and be part of a group of teams with a record that would simultaneously be good for 4th in the league and the top wednesday slot.  They're going to have to earn an upset L to Baylor, Texas or unthinkably, ISU, to have shot at this thing.

Yeah, it's like during that week the humidity spikes up and mold explosions in the colors of red and yellow are freaking everywhere.

Bad news - KSU dropped the ball in Stillwater this week and probably ensured 10th and 9th will not be available.

Good news  - KSU controls its destiny with games against, and only against, the teams standing directly in its way from a wednesday berth.

The most important one is the next one; can KSU erase the devastating W it took in Austin?  A select number of people will find out this wednesday night on the U, in between snickers commercials where the doctor left his phone in the patient during surgery.

I appreciate the updates, but one suggestion is adding a dividing line in the graphic so the casual observer can see how close the Cats are to an elusive extra resume-building possibility in the Big 12 Tourney.
