People that don't understand/appreciate what Guthrie is and brings to this team obviously never played the game.

Fortunately his bad inning was early so there was still time for the offense to come back. Not sure the younger guys in the rotation could've rebounded like he did to get thru 5.2 last night.

He did recover nicely, but he has to be better down the stretch than he has been the last month.
Not now that Billy is a stud again. We're gonna score like 6-13 runs every game now.

WILL TAKE!

Can we trade for Carlos Santana before tonight's game?

i looked up his season's stats and couldn't believe my eyes.

I assume he is hitting .375 with 42 home runs?

in all seriousness, the entire royals lineup should be forced to watch endless loops of santana at bats.  all the dude does is walk.  maybe the best walker in the mlb (maybe true, maybe hyperbole, no idea; does walk an amazing amount though).

If he could pull his head out of his behind and cover 1st like a pitcher is supposed to, he'd warrant more defense today. I'm fine with a Guthrie level guy being on the staff (he'd have been our ace in 2006), but we absolutely overpaid for him.

Why would you send Chen back in after last inning and at 100 pitches?

Game is lost already, let them get 100 runs, who cares. Save the rest of your pitchers.  Very smart ned

Yeah, after the first 3 games of this series you go in hoping oscar doesn't take it on the Chen and save the pen as much as possible. It just didn't work out.

Guys, your ol' buddy joda here. I've been off the grid this weekend and just finished reading up on the last few days of this thread. Quite enjoyable (though the ending sucked) and excellent moding cf3 (fix the ending though would ya :impatient:)

We have Shields, Duffy, Ventura going against the Twins T/W/Th this week. We will have the advantage with pitching every game. Playing in our ballpark, with our pen, Billy heating up, Hosmer back from injury, we should EXPECT a sweep. At that point we'll be 5 over. We have 7 games against the A's in the first 2 weeks of August, so really a sweep of the Twins is a must.

No bad outings from the starters. No bats going silent. Billy HAS to hit. Alex HAS to hit (only 2 extra base hits all month, no homers since June 21). Hosmer has to hit the way he was hitting before the hand injury. Ned HAS to play the Dyson/Cain/Gordon outfield to have our D be elite. We have to get this sweep. If not, we'll go to the A's with Guthrie/Chen/Shields going up against the best team in baseball and we don't want to need to sweep the A's IN oakland to stay in this thing.

Let's do this.

Oh and guess what, the Angels are like, right on the heels of the A's. Both of those teams have a winning % over .600 (only 2 in baseball) so get it out of your head that the A's might have senioritis with the division all locked up. One of those teams is going to be in a winner take all wildcard game and you bet your butt neither wants to, so they will be busting their backsides to win that division.
