The new FJM is great.  His lyrics sure are interesting. Might prefer the last album musically, but this one lyrically.

Robert Earl Keen covers 52 Vincent Black Lightning on his new album. I love that song and I love Robert Earl Keen's music. February 10th can't come soon enough.

I just listened to Sleater-Kinney for the first time. The new album and one of the old ones. Really cool, on the edge of frantic and desperate, but still melodic. Wish I'd heard them earlier...

I heard a song and was kind of meh. People need to get over the 90's or whatever

a couple of questions for the music heads in this thread

is it important for you to be the first to find out about new music?  it seems like some of you enjoy searching out obscure music that no one has really heard of and talking about it.

how much good music is enough?

and does the new good music that you've just found replace the old good music that used to be the new good music?  or do you just keep on listening to all the music until infinity?

how much music can you really listen to?  is this a 24/7 thing?  i see people that can't leave home without their headphones, i don't connect with this concept.

Not at all. I mean, I pretty much rely on people for new music. It has to be recommended for me to bother listening.

how much good music is enough?

That's kind of like asking how much technology is enough.

For the most part, yes, at least digitally. But I do revisit old stuff from time to time. A big part is I started listening less.

how much music can you really listen to?  is this a 24/7 thing?  i see people that can't leave home without their headphones, i don't connect with this concept.

I used to be 24/7, but I now listen less. I read books every day on bart, and listen to podcasts when I'm walking from the bart station to work. At home I mostly listen to vinyl now (which really isn't to often). I pretty much only listen to "new" music at work.

I don't care about finding it first, but I do like finding bands early, because generally I prefer concerts in small venues with bands that aren't quite as polished as the ones playing arenas.

i think there's some "i knew about this crap way before you idiots" going on that you guys aren't admitting to.

i just read this thread and it's all about listing these obscure bands.  kind of like the beer thread.  yo bro have you had the triple bocked hop face owl's ale?

the only reason i ask these questions is because i have very little interest in new music at all.  i've found a bunch of music that i really like and that i connect to and that's what i listen to.  i don't feel a need to search out other music like a lot of you guys in this thread.  there's nothing wrong with new music though, as i've found stuff in this thread that i liked listening to, like that dude from KC and his mom.  i just would never go looking for it and probably won't listen to it again.

also the comparison to technology was both hilarious and terrible. but i give you points for trying.  no not scout points.

I will add that listening to music you've never heard before is an entirely different experience than listening to illmatic 1000 times.

 both have value, though.

Hey guys, if this doesn't belong here, then I apologize.

I have a carpet guy stretching our carpets today. He was a roadie for Rude Awakenings back in the late '80's through mid '90's.

Here is a live version of one of their hit songs when they opened for Megadeath in 1995. The song is Smoke Jumpers. Do you guys know this metal group? Just to be clear, this is "NOT THAT NEW BAND THAT STOLE THE NAME RUDE AWAKENINGS FROM THIS BAND THAT IS WAY BETTER AND SHOULD BE SUING THE NEW BAND FOR BEING HACKS!"

There's a novel included with fear fun. I didn't read it.

But yes, honey bear is very good, maybe better than fear fun.

i read his book for a full minute before deciding that my current self is not 'shroomy enough to enjoy it.
