Big Game QBs At Kansas State
« on: December 30, 2014, 01:49:15 PM »
OU ending up being garbage this year got me thinking. What are the biggest game QBs we have had?

Bishop - #11 NU '98, @#14 CU '98, #14 Syracuse '97
Beasley - @#15 TX '99, #4 NU '00, #21 TN (only including because cotton bowl)
Roberson - #1 OU '03, @#18 NU '03, #11 USC '02
Webb, Meier - None
Freeman - #4 TX '06, @#7 TX '07
Coffman, Gregory - None
Klein - #15 Baylor '11, @#6 OU '12, #15 TTech '12
Waters - @#11 OU '14

Bishop, Roberson, Beasley & Klein each had some additional ranked team wins but nothing I'd consider a big game. Had a long streak of sucking ass in our better bowl games which could have added a lot to the list. Josh Freeman has 40% of our top 10 wins.

Which is unfortunate cause he had 0% of our Nubbs-Mizzou-KU wins.

this is the top 5, the bolded 4 are probably interchangeable, depending on your argument. this would've been a special year if any of these 5 we're our starter, tho. man

Jake has pissed away some good chances for big games the past 2 years. He's been a good QB, but he's not a special QB.

Roberson

2001
@ #3 OU L 37-38
@ #24 TT L 19-38
@ #2 NU L 21-31
vs.#18 'Cuse L 3-26 (Bowl)

2002
vs. #11 USC W 27-20
vs. #8 UT L 14-17
vs. #21 ISU W 58-7
** @ CU L 37-38 (CU was unranked at the time, but finished #20, loss kept us from the Dr. P, not Ell's fault)

2003
@ #13 UT L 20-24
@ #18 NU W 38-9
vs. #1 OU W 35-7 (Dr. P)
vs. #7 tOSU L 28-35 (Fiesta)

Ell was pretty studly in big game his final two seasons.
If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.

Bishop

1997

@ #3 NU L 26-56 (Might have been a different game later in the season, but NU was increds)
vs. #14 ATM W 36-17 (underrated stud performance on one leg)
vs. #14 'Cuse W 35-18 (Fiesta, stud performance, especially passing)

1998

@ #14 CU W 16-9 (grinder)
vs.#11 NU W 40-30 (obv. huge, his magnum opus)
@ #19 MU W 31-25 (Mizzou was very good)
vs. #10 ATM

Beasley

1999
@ #15 UT W 35-17
@ #7 NU L 15-41

2000
vs.#8 OU L 31-41
vs. #4 NU W 29-28 (his magnum opus)
vs. #1 OU L 24-27 (so close)
vs. #21 TENN W 35-21

I think Klein @Miami was a big game and he was absolutely the difference maker.

while I agree DoD 2.0 turned a corner in that game Miami did finish 6-6 and fired the coach at the end of the season

Well only half of that is true so the rest of your post is also suspect. :dubious:

Reasons that was a big game:

1)  on the road against a good team
2)  first time CK runs the real offense
3)  he played really well
4)  he got all scabbed up for the rest of the season on that infield which grew his brand
5)  ETA: Miami clobbered Ohio State #16 the week before

Yeah, it was a fine game. But if we're counting that we are also counting about 8 other bish/roberson games (each)

I don't count the big upset wins as "big games" in the same way that I count the games with tons of pressure and expectations.

yeah.  i also think the miami game was a bigger and more important game than almost any 15-25 ranked conference opponent

when tre stopped them on the 1 yard line to win the game i was about as jacked as i have ever been, given the situation and what the win meant
