like, when some person asks me if I want to be in their weekly guys only poker game where we all bring our own six pack and I tell them there is literally no rough ridin' way I would ever get involved in something like that I assume it takes place at one of their lake houses

who goes to a lakehouse to play poker?

I mean come on, is there anything more American than this?

- Reshaping nature to your desire by submerging thousands of acres of pristine ozark forest behind a giant dam

- Building houses along your newly created lake

- Filling said lake with gas guzzling boats

- Driving said boats .5 miles to the nearest cove where you tie up to other boats and blast country music and pound light domestic lager

IMO George, Thomas, John and Benjamin would all have their own house around the 8 mile marker.

I don't understand why anyone would be a lake person as opposed to a ski cabin person, but whatever.

Cause then you have to vacation in the cold?

The great thing about ski cabins is they're awesome year round.  Cool, low humidity mountain air in the summer :deepbreathandexaggeratedexhale:

Have fun sweating your ass off at the lake

Have thought about buying one for my use during the summer and to rent out for all skying season as I don't ski.

Seems like if you get the right house in the right location, you could mostly pay for it purely off of ski rental.   :dunno:

yeah because if there's one thing that a person should do in their life, it is to buy a single property several hours away from with they live with the hopes that they will be able to rent it out in order to pay the mortgage.

Not exactly what the plan was.  The plan(abandonded a while ago) was to buy it along with a few other families, and rent it out when not used.

Mrs. CF3's bro has a lake house and we've been invited exactly 1 time. What a jerk.

It would basically function as a time share part of the time and a VRBO type property the rest of the time.  Also, the main goal would be an awesome house for vacation.  The rental income covering what ever it covers would be a benefit too.

this really isn't a new concept, RD.

I've never been to The Lake (of the Ozarks), but I'd encourage folks not to be judgy about the recreational activities of others.

well i guess you don't quite see the humor of a bunch of kansas and nebraska hicks thinking they've got something over on other kansas and nebraska hicks that also own property on large bodies of water.

Well been pretty busy this morning. Just caught up on this thread. Nice to see that we can pretty much all agree that lake/boat people have to be just about the worst. (Not trying to be judgey michcat, just pointing out the facts. )

Vacation properties are pretty stupid in general.  Owning a place you use infrequently is just slightly less stupid than a time share.

A lot of rich K-State Alum have lake houses at the Ozarks and in Table Rock because they have expendable income.
