lol, after all that Beems links BleacherReport, who still only gave it an A-. I figured the steal of the draft would be an A.

Not trolling here, B-Mac can't create his own shot. He's got great 3pt% and amazing ability to dunk (when he's on a breakaway and no one can get in front of him) and he disappears for games. He's fun to watch but he's not somebody who's going to take over a game and win it for you (unless you get him open a bunch of times outside the 3pt line).

They gave Sacramento an overall grade on their draft, not just McLemore.  You 'taters are so bitter and butthurt that you can't even think straight anymore.

Tell me which part of my analysis is wrong.

Pretty much all of your analysis is weak.  You say that McLemore can't create his own shot, when in fact he has the ability to hit the pull up jumpshot and get to the rim with authority.  You say McLemore can't take over a game, when in fact he scored 30+ points three different times last year (including 30 at home vs. K-State).  The kid was playing his first year of college basketball last season... of course he was going to be inconsistent at times.  Even at that, McLemore set the all-time KU scoring record for a freshman, while shooting over 43% from 3-point range, 87% from the free throw line, and close to 50% from the floor.  You can't coach shooting ability, and you can't coach athleticism.  McLemore has the raw ability to be an all-star in the NBA someday.  It's just a matter of time before his potential is realized.

https://deadspin.com/a-very-depressing-nba-trade-1827660013

"It’s sort of uncomfortably paradoxical, but McLemore is working on—completing, soon, probably—one of the most forgettable careers by a top-10 pick in history. (Which will not remember him.) Finishing as a runner-up in the dunk contest in his rookie season* almost certainly is the peak of his time in the NBA; it hasn’t been all downhill from there so much as it’s been all flat and featureless, like Kansas. McLemore’s best pro season was his second: He mustered a personal-best 12.1 points per game—the only time he’s averaged double-digits over a season—and finished, for the only time (so far?) in his career, with a VORP that didn’t have a minus-sign in front of it. Last season, as a relatively low-risk speculative reclamation project in Memphis, he was as terrible as he’s ever been; his scoring average was a career-worst 7.5 per game, and his .526 true shooting percentage ranked 324th in the league. He has (had?) a really nice first step, good elevation on his jumper, and by all appearances absolutely zero interest in being any kind of professional basketball player."

Letter to the editor: Stadium not worth it

I must confess that I was deeply confused by the Journal-World’s recent editorial “Much needed football upgrade,” which seems to claim that a $300 million football stadium upgrade would be a sound financial investment. The editorial brushed over the fundamental problem with Kansas football: it sucks, and aside from one surprise season nine years ago, has sucked for my entire life.

The editorial compared KU to Iowa State, which sells twice as many home tickets as KU. But it neglected to mention that Iowa State, while also a terrible football program, has almost twice as many wins over the past five years as KU, and nonetheless only brought in $9.4 million in ticket sales in 2015. Even if half of those sales were due to the stadium, which is doubtful, it would be worth only $4.7 million a year, a measly 1.5 percent annual return. That won’t even cover interest.

A stadium upgrade won’t turn Kansas into Iowa State, and it wouldn’t be worth it if it did. If finances were the driving consideration, KU would cut its football program altogether rather than keep throwing good money after bad.

His jump ball throws usually are targeted to open receivers. He just underthrows them by enough that they have to stop. They wouldn't be jump ball throws if he were a better QB.
I missed most of the OSU game but the only times I remember Ertz throwing the ball over the defense downfield were in the early games of the season (Stanford and WVU) and even then they were touch throws, the "put a fade in a shoebox" TD to Zuber v Stanford is probably his TD pass that traveled the farthest in the air.

The big play on the double move or play action is easily the biggest place for Ertz to improve and we should have a ton of opportunities with what will be the best running game since 2001.  Unless there is another 1Y hidden away on our roster we will have to beat OU and OSU in shootouts and that is hard to do if they don't respect Ertz's arm.

Does anyone keep stats for yards traveled in the air? We must rank similarly to triple option teams.

What do oak mite bites look like? How do you know they aren't mosquito bites?

They generally resemble chigger bites, with a smaller pustule in the center. KSU profs described them in an article (http://jme.oxfordjournals.org/content/43/3/610) and included photos:

Colorado (4-1, 2-0 Pac-12) moved into the Associated Press poll at No. 21 this week, its first appearance in the rankings since Nov. 6, 2005. That absence spanned 173 voting weeks for the Buffaloes according to CollegePollArchive.com, the fourth-longest for a Power Five school entering last week.

The longest active Power Five drought belongs to Indiana, which has gone 368 polls since last appearing on Sept. 20, 1994. The rest of the top 10: Syracuse (236 polls), Iowa State (180), Purdue (147), Kentucky (141), Wake Forest (129), Boston College (122), Kansas (112), N.C. State (88) and Illinois (80).

The KSU Insect Diagnostician will tell you for free

Quote
IMAGES (sent to [email protected]):

Digital images may be used for specimens to be identified. In some cases, pictures of live specimens are preferable. Many caterpillars and soft-bodied insects lose their natural color or become dark when they die, even if placed in a preservative. Because identification manuals use color patterns to help distinguish different species, pictures of live specimens are often better than pictures of dead ones. Active specimens can be slowed down by placing them in a freezer or refrigerator for a short time before taking pictures.

In general, specimens that are less than 5 mm (1/4 inch) are too small to be identified from images using common digital equipment. Use judgment on specimens that are small but larger than 5 mm.

Images are emailed, but they should be accompanied by information that includes location (county), date, client name, circumstances where arthropod was found (crop, building, etc.), agent, etc. – any additional information that would help place the insect in its ecological context.

At least three images should be submitted. For most arthropods an image of the top (dorsal) of the animal is most crucial, and many insects can be identified with this image alone.
Most require other views:

For most larvae (caterpillars, beetle larvae) side and bottom (ventral) views are important as well as the head capsule.
Beetles should be shown with top, bottom, and head (front) views.
Butterflies and moths should have wings spread and top and bottom sides displayed.
Spiders should have top (body) and front (head) views with a visible arrangement of their eyes.

If unsure how to photograph a specific insect, contact the insect diagnostician for help.

In addition to pictures of the insect, it is often useful to send images of the damage or habitat where insects were found. These images may be useful even when sending physical samples. In some cases it is best to send digital images of the insect and/or damage and follow up by sending a sample. This allows the diagnostician to make a preliminary response based on digital images and confirm the diagnosis based on the physical sample.

Guy 1: Anyone know what kind of amp and what size of amp I should put in a sound tube for my four wheeler it says it was a 700 watt but I was wondering if a boss 400 watt would be enough it's just powered by a cigarette lighter on the four wheeler

Guy 2: just put a big "pipe" on it and forget the amp! Haha!

Guy 3: That's what I did on my rzr.2 foot piece of 4" pvc  with some drain plugs on each end and stick a bluetooth speaker in and it sounds great. Just clamp the pipe on with hose clamps. About 12 bucks and done!!

Kansas State Football / The Run
« on: June 23, 2016, 12:19:50 PM »
In the OJ Simpson 30 for 30 doc, Jeffrey Toobin says, ""If you were a football fan in the late '60s and somebody said to you, 'Do you remember the run?,' it was just one run. It set O.J. apart from everyone."

It was a 64-yard TD run with 10 minutes left in the 4th quarter vs UCLA. It ended up being the deciding score to win the PAC-8 and head to the Rose Bowl (and the win had a big effect on the AP poll champ).

It had huge implications, but my hot take is: for something that gets to be called "The Run", the run itself isn't terribly impressive.

What is the best college football run ever? Include the YouTube video, if possible.

Vandy's play in this game reminds me a lot of watching this year's Cats.

they have some great losses.

Also, Stallings look to me like what the ceiling will be for K-State basketball if oscar stays long term at K-State. If he gets us back to the tournament next year and locks up a future here, it will be very Stallings-esque.

When searching for reasons why Vandy was completely inept at feeding their 7-footers, I read the of comments from irate Vandy fans (http://www.anchorofgold.com/2016/3/15/11243132/2016-ncaa-tournament-first-four-vanderbilt-wichita-state-results-recap#comments). Many wanted Stallings out years ago and he keeps hanging around.

There is simply no evidence for this moron's claims.

the stats back up that DJamer is refusing to pass to wade, unfortunately.  sorry, liblib.

Does DJamer pass to other post players when Wade is on the bench?

Remember when JO H-R refused to pass out of the post for an entire year? There is institutionalized racism in our post play. Wade is just the latest victim.

Ref's fault. Our young kids couldn't handle the irony.

Quote
“I think it’s always ironic, you get two technicals and we go 1-for-4 from the line,” Kansas State coach oscar Weber said. “I think if you go study the next foul calls, I think it changed a lot. But that’s basketball and they’re a good team. He’s got them playing hard and they’ve got a lot of confidence and play well.”

I only watched the last 8 minutes. Am I correct in assuming that Baylor made an adjustment in their defense at the half, and we did not react to that change? Because our zone offense at the end of the game looked worse than a rec league.

« on: January 11, 2016, 03:08:40 PM »

Have we talked about the opening strolling text yet?  Easily the worst part of the whole movie imo

The words or the graphic nature?

Words. It was terrible

Luke Skywalker has vanished.
In his absence, the sinister
FIRST ORDER has risen
from the ashes of the Empire
and will not rest until Skywalker, the last Jedi,
has been destroyed.

With the support of the REPUBLIC,
General Leia Organa leads a brave RESISTANCE.
She is desperate to find her
brother Luke and gain his
help in restoring peace and
justice to the galaxy.

Leia has sent her most daring
pilot on a secret mission
to Jakku, where an old ally
has discovered a clue to
Luke’s whereabouts . . . .

Yeah, it's bad. I LOL'd at the opening line.

You read that the First Order came out of the ashes of the Empire, so you think it's a little baby deer of an evil organization, just getting its legs, but nope, it's got a billion stormtroopers and identical, gigantic spaceships.

favorite recurring characters?  for me, i think Santa/Astronaut.

The Astronaut trying to convince the soccer-playing child about how space ruined his life was the top TV moment of 2015. I might never delete it from my DVR.

Quote
My whole life has just been a nightmare. It's a terrible experience. You know, most of my friends have died in space or gone insane from the unimaginable loneliness of being there.

Yeah?

Yeah. My wife and my kids, they died in space. It was an accident.

But I thought kids can't go to space.

Yeah, I smuggled 'em on against the rules.

Oh.

Some restaurants, they won't even serve me because I used to be an astronaut.

Really? That's like a brown person. If you were a brown person a long time ago, what happened, like, you couldn't go to a restaurant. Is that how it feels?

Yeah, that's kind of how it is. It's that kind of discrimination that happens.

Really?

Yeah, you know, I really just wish I had decided to be a soccer player instead of an astronaut.

Oh?

Yeah, it's too late for me now. I'll probably die on my next mission anyways.

Really? When is it, in two years?

Yes, sure, two years from now.

KU is averaging something like 8 ppg at home in conf. The defense has obviously given up, they gave up like 500 yards in the first half against wvu, with 350 of them on the ground.

Watch us get in a shootout with them. Could happen. Burns is clearly a bad matchup against any #1 WR in the league. Its silly he's even out there.

I don't think you know what/who you are talking about

KU is not capable of a shootout. Since their 38 points in the South Dakota St loss, they have scored 20 or more only three times: 23 points vs Memphis and 20 points vs TTech and Texas.

Their #1 WR is Tre' Parmalee. He has had one 100-yard game this year.

At KSU purple cats university, 2.3% of faculty and staff are identified as "black".   :surprised:

And?
I was surprised it was that low.  It is lower than known racist institution MIZ-ZOU.  Your thoughts?

Kansas State does not have a history of institutionalized racism and as already discussed have been progressive with these types of issues.

Next.

For me, this is the issue to focus on: Mizzou is the only major university in a racist state. If a minority student wants the P5 experience, there is only one in-state school to choose. Once they arrive on campus, they shouldn't be subjected to epithets. For F's sake, if there's one place in that entire backwards state where they should feel welcome and wanted, it's the flagship university of Missouri.

The school president failed to do that, as did every school president before him. Hopefully the next person can drag that school toward racial equality, and hopefully that helps move the needle on the rest of Missouri as well.

So blessed that KSU entomologists have led the way on itch mites. Fact: these things are gross:
Quote
P. herfsi are 0.2 mm in length and barely visible to the naked eye. Species of Pyemotes mites generally have similar life habits (Smith 1973, oscar and Wrensch 1990), as follows: newly emerged and mated females inject a neurotoxin-containing saliva into their hosts, which paralyzes the host and enables the gravid female mites to feed on the host's hemolymph. The toxin in the saliva of these itch mites is so potent that a single mite can paralyze and kill an insect larva 166,000 times its own weight (Tomalski et al. 1988).

The posterior portion (opisthosoma) of the female enlarges (physogastry; Fig. 2)

as its progeny develops inside, and, within a few days, up to 250 adult mites emerge from the gravid female. oscar and Wrensch (1990) found that progeny of the straw itch mite averaged 254 offspring of which 92% were females. Males emerge before the females, position themselves around the mother's genital opening, and mate with emerging females. Then, mated females disperse to find new hosts. These mites often are dispersed by wind, and when they land on vertebrate hosts, they attempt to feed, resulting in the bites.

SPEAKING OF!: Dobber, my ornamental pear tree has some black spots on some of the leaves. in doing google on it I've discovered it could be almost anything (fungus, bugs, disease, etc.) and basically I have to just see if it goes away or not. any additional input here? should I go ahead and send the mrs. to the landscape place to pick out another tree?

I've noticed the pear tree spots all over my neighborhood, looks like no big deal: http://www.kansas.com/living/home-garden/article31182911.html

seriously though, do yourself a favor and try to find a way to watch the stella show from comedy central.  There's only 8 or 10 episodes i think, but they're all that great, clever Wain absurdity.  Plus MIB and Show.  A few people from the State and Wet Hot make cameos too.

There are 10 episodes and they are all goddamned treasures. They can be yours forever for $16: http://www.amazon.com/Stella-Season-Michael-Ian-Black/dp/B000FZETJS

Their pre-TV short videos are all online: http://www.stellacomedy.com/shorts.html. "Searching for Santa" is probably the most well-known.

23
Once you've finished all 8 episodes, do yourself a favor and listen to some of the original music:

https://soundcloud.com/craigwedren/sets/wet-hot-american-summer-first-day-of-camp-selected-songs

"I Am a Wolf"! "Heart Attack Love"! All your faves are here!

24
Also, this show has a real Arrested Development type of feel when you consider the rewards of new jokes you discover upon repeated viewings. However it is different from AD in that the netflix reboot makes me happy instead of sad.

  Exactly

25
It's worse than TD2. 3 epis in, I think we'll stop.

FWIW, I thought things really picked up after the first 3.

But I've seen the movie a billion times and listened to the director's commentary and even the soundtrack with extra farts, so I'm biased.
