had a great burger with blue cheese, carmelozied onions and a chipotle sauce. perfectly rare.
mods, please move post to the appropriate burger thread when it opens.

I'd stay away from cheese, today.

ditch the carmelized onion in favor of a little greenery and extra blue cheese :dunno:
I love pineapple, BBQ sauce, and mozzarella on a burger.
Basically, my favorite burger is an Aloha from So Long. Amazing.
However, I'd rather make the same thing, but use Oklahoma Joe's Cowtown or Night of the Living Sauce. I bet that would be fantastic.

ok, i've got the meat salted, peppered and sitting with garlic.
available stuff: a few basil leaves. frozen, chopped parsley, italian green peppers, tomatoes, onions, chipotle sauce, some bottled salsas (chipotle, jalapeño, verde (tomatillo bomb), several dried chiles, grana padano, camembert, havarti, blue cheese (spanish, pretty mild), canned roasted red peppers (sweet), chorizo (cured, sweet), jamon serrano, normal spices and stuff.
was thinking maybe a four cheese and green pepper. or maybe kinda do what i can with the greenery/no cheese idea and hope that the parsley could handle things (with tomatoes).
neither sounds as good as last night's burger. might just redo it. i could do something like the inside out, but i'd have to substitute jamon for bacon. seems like it'd be too strong. :dunno:

The best at So Long is either the Resist Temptation or the Blue Cheese IMO.I love pineapple, BBQ sauce, and mozzarella on a burger.

It is a good So Long Burger, just had one last week. Not the best there though. JMHO.
completely forgot: i've got some frozen mixed mushrooms. i could sauté those and then blend or chop them into a topping. maybe with wine and rosemary. either onions in with those, or fried and added on as well. probably would camembert the burger to go with.
you just found your answer.
sys i want to refer you to the "inside out" burger found here-

my favorite on that menu is the barnyard but substituting the au pouivre burger and adding a peice of aged white cheddar.
imagine that, a hamburger made of kobe beef at a plaza restaurant being expensive. what are the odds :dunno:
do they not have the prices on the menus at that location? just wondering why you ordered a $12 hamburger if you didn't want to pay $12 for a hamburger?imagine that, a hamburger made of kobe beef at a plaza restaurant being expensive. what are the odds :dunno:
I don't care if it was kobe beef that had been chewed up and shat by God Almighty. $12 for that burger wasn't worth it for me. It was at the Leawood spot anyway. I'd never go north get shanked by all the thugs and gang bangers down at the plaza.

Anyone tried the $100 Burger yet? Pretty sure it's a rip off of this restaurant http://nymag.com/listings/restaurant/db-bistro-moderne/ (http://nymag.com/listings/restaurant/db-bistro-moderne/) attached to the hotel I stayed at in New York a while back.
It seems like "foie gras butter" might be slightly more ethical to me than straight foie gras, but not by much. Still think I would like to try it once.
was served with a side of orange marmalade.
If you find yourself in Lawrence and need to escape all the hayseeds on Mass Street for a while, walk a block over to Vermont and try the Burger Stand (http://www.theburgerstand.com/THEBURGERSTAND/THE_BURGER_STAND.html) in Dempsey's. Better than Blanc, IMHO. Truffle fries def. better than Blanc.
Also, used to get a burger at Henry T's that was called the Fat Tuesday Burger. Had cajun seasoning and was served with a side of orange marmalade. It was fantastic.

seriously? i can't imagine that. what else did it have?
i'm spinning. continue with existing burger plans or go with an emergency marmalade burger? this is going to go down to the wire.

What's the opinion on Chef Burger? I've never had it but always walk by it and am intrigued when I'm on my way to the Sprint Center.
Sorry, meant always walk by it when I'm going to something at the Sprint Center. Probably not going to drive to Kansas City just to eat a burger. But it is good, you say? What's the opinion on Chef Burger? I've never had it but always walk by it and am intrigued when I'm on my way to the Sprint Center.
You should drive down there right now to get some

a good burger should have no more than 3 toppings.
try this: cream cheese, thick-cut bacon and some peppery greens ('rugala, cress, dandelion greens, endive, etc.)
absolute delish.

Just finished a homemade Fat Tuesday burger, fellas. Not gonna lie...it was delicious.
Zatarain's and Tabasco mixed in to the meat. Charred. Thick-cut bacon and orange marmalade on top. Lettuce below.
Time for :drink:
stopped at smashburger tonight. tried the shocker (fried pickles, grilled onions, lettuce, tomato, american, chipotle mayo, and bbq sauce). pretty good.

I make shitty burgers despite my best efforts. I think I'm going wrong by grilling them. Frying pan the key?
i bet he spends too much time pattying them. gotta be overpattying.
What's wrong with them SD? what kind of beef are you getting?

hey, dumbass, that burger is done. telling me crap i just found out gets us nowhere. mushroom pate burger coming up tomorrow, give me something i can use.
I'll give you something you can use; pate almost always tastes like crap. Any way out of it, or are you honor bound to eat that?

i mean it's not really pate. i'm just planning on grinding the 'shrooms into a delicious paste after sauteing with wine and rosemary (maybe bacon). i can still abort and go with sliced or chopped, but i'm not sure i want the texture.
pancetta

hey dickwad, while that is technically true, good luck telling somebody to go to the Burger Stand and watch them drive up and down the street looking for it. Eat my ass.
sys, update?
this was one of those burgers where everything sounded right, but the experience never lived up to the hype. don't get me wrong, it was a good meal, delicious in its way, and well paired with the delightful grenache. just felt like it was a burger on the edge of greatness, but one that collapsed under the weight of its own expectations rather than seizing the reins and running to glory. i have to take some of the blame for that, obsessed with getting the perfect toast on the bun, i overcooked the burger a touch. it wasn't killed, by any stretch, but it was more done than it should've been, and that's something i have to live with.
mushroom paste: frozen "medley" of cultivated 'shrooms, garlic, dried rosemary, pepper, salt, red wine. - absolutely delicious. think it could have been better with port instead of the grenache, but i mean, come on, you can't go buying a bottle of port every time you want a mushroom burger. on it's own, it was fantastic, on the burger, contributed to a saltiness issue that plagued the burger all meal-long.
fried onions: same issue with the saltiness.
bacon: you guessed it, a contributor.
chipolte: you're probably thinking "wait, was this burger too busy, was that the issue?". well, nope. tried a bite without the chipolte, definitely not the problem.
blue cheese: see chipolte.
marinade: red wine, a touch (just a touch, for eff's sake) of brown sugar, salt, pepper, rosemary, bay leaf, garlic, olive oil. yeah. not saying this was the whole problem, but it didn't help. there was just a lot of taste on top. the marinade wasn't needed, and in fact detracted from the burger's success. this was a live and learn; less is more situ.
Stick with 3 ingredients or less.

as someone else mentioned, less is more. You wouldn't want to have sex with 5 girls at once would you, some would be left out of the fun and you'd get tired and exhausted. 3 girls on the other hand (based on porn viewing) looks doable. Stick with 3 ingredients or less.
fracked up another burger last night
remember when I told you not to put salt on it during the marinade?

Well it's Big 12 tourney time, figured I would go to a good burger joint or two while in town next week.
Plan on probably Town Topic, maybe McCoy's.. thoughts? anyone had a good burger lately?
I will be hammered approximately every second of every minute I'm there, Wacky. Then go to BRGR. It's right next to PNL.
i like town topic. a lot. beer kitchen is good too. i'm not too hot on brgr, mine have always been dried out and overcooked.I think it's based off the location. I think the same about the downtown location, Clams. However, their original spot is spot on.

i no longer put (have them put on) liquid/paste style condiments on burgers. i've moved to a system where i dip the side of the burger in the condiment prior to each bite.

Those little yellow chili pepper things are good too, but like, what are you supposed to do with them? Just snack on them while you wait?
Can we just go ahead and talk about lamb burgers because they are very delicious?

Chipotle style ordering of ingredients and then they cook it up right in front of you. I would put onions, cheese, 'penos, bacon, and probably guac on top with other fixin's and it would be increds
I like onion in my burger but I mince them very fine.

They don't actually stuff the burger, but this sounds like what you're describing:

Oh it is, and from downtown Des Moines. Still very good though.
i had a Howard's grocery burger today and boys let me tell you the outrageously long beards were out in force, looked like i may have dined
with the autoharp guy from arcade fire and possibly the mandolin player from bon iver. i'm pretty sure that i've seen the guy flipping burgers playing his melodica on the plaza for spare change.

I'm a fan of this place but not as much of a fan as I was expecting to be from reviews.
what kind of beverages were the longbeards slinging?
I've been craving Green Room lately, may have to go this weekend. I'd put their burgers up against any in KC.
Am I a long beard? :ohno:
I'm craving the crap out of a Burger Stand burger. I'm in Manhattan though. FML!

Just got some Big D's. Vista wasn't empty.
Anyone ever eaten at the Burger Stand? I helped open the one in Topeka. I also worked with Pedro at his own gourmet sandwich shop, Boca, that was across the street. That man is very talented.
I may be biased but when i worked there at least it was amazing.

did they toast that bun, SDK?No. I'm not a fan of toasted buns in general
If you're ever in west(ish) Wichita and have a hankering for a good greasy, cheesy burger don't pass on West Street Burgers. Just north of Kellogg on West St.
I usually go big with a triple cheese. It comes standard with mustard pickles and onions. Their fresh fried potato chips are money as well.
Brings up the age old question.. fried pickle spears or fried pickle chips? This isn't even a valid question. Chips by light years.
Brings up the age old question.. fried pickle spears or fried pickle chips? This isn't even a valid question. Chips by light years.
The problem with spears is most places don't fry them long enough and then you up with soft half-cooked batter inside. So Long Saloon did a good job frying them, but I can't think of another place that does. The mush to crunch ration is never correct with spears.

That looks like Vlasic's attempt to capture a share of the artisanal pickle market.

GTFOOMF w/ this Vlasic nonsenseThose too are really good pickles. The Nathans brand ones are also great. Man DJT is truly MAGA.

There is a diner in Eskridge with a tasty burgYeah, one of the 4 buildings in the town that's actually open for business.
I saw that the KC burger week starts 7/31. Great write up with participants in the Pitch.
I was in Eskridge, KS this weekend to see my grandparents. Like most small towns, you have to drive a ways to eat. Saturday we went to Harveyville (population of 20) and had a fantastic burger at (Hell) Rayzor Roadhouse Sports Bar. It was amazing! Their burgers are a 1/2 LB to a full LB and there as big as your head. Perfect mix of white trash scenery too. I definitely recommend.
The pictures I saw look like it's just in some dudes garage
:D
How did I forget to mention the shower part of it?

tried this today on my way back from a project meeting. Very white trashy love that the bathroom has a full shower and bathtub.
Burger was above average and the fries were very good. My burger was a bit odd though, gives new meaning to the term "left beef". For some reason they folded my cheese over on one side.
100% that tub has been pooped inI would bet a lot of crazy crap has happened in that tub. :fatty:

guys, lets be honest I do not want to risk murder by going into Missouri for a burger. The best burger in the KC area is at Justus drugstore. But you can only get it when the patio is open.

How much does that burg cost, like $2 million?I think it starts at $10 but you pey for eavh topping. Or there is a chefs special for probably $13-$15 that is usually the best choice and comes with whatever toppings they decided on.
tomato paste seems like a strange condiment
So you went ahead and didn't get the chef's special burger after I already explained to get it?I'm ashamed I forgot that part and I didn't see that on the menu to remind me.

Anything less is uncivilized
This place has a truck that's downtown once or twice a week, but I don't think they'll sell this out of the truck. Might have to go damn near to Tacoma to get this.

what did you do with the parmesan?
Get Arthur Bryant's fries' name outcha moufAB's fries are my favorite. They were a similar style of fry once you got rid of the toppings
you picked the worst thread for it then because this thread is for good burger discussions, take a lap
Burger king even smells gross on the outside.
I feel like there are about 85 different threads where I can put this, but...
They just put in a Burger King/Taco Good combo right beside my office.
Will smash.
Oh my you guys I went to the restaurant inside the Marriott and their burg has to be the best of this year's bunch. I dont know what other place gives you 8 oz.I have a emaw bud who will love to see this.

Just the obvious answer
I don't like onions or orings, but the worst part of orings is when a place has orings and the fries taste all oniony from using the same oilI totally know what you're talking about.
Have you ever had a hard time eating a z man? I haven't.
Raw onions and orings are totally different....I support you wacky.

True, but I think ok joes could try and make it look like that if they wanted to. There's a lot going on in that pic and one simple smash would solve that problem, I think. Mrs wacky wants to play in westport tomorrow. I might debunk this theory.Have you ever had a hard time eating a z man? I haven't.
of course not. no one has. they're not even in the same ballpark, height-wise

It's my back up when Beer Kitchen has a crazy wait. Here's my go to... Nevermind. Just looked up the burger I eat and it's not on the menu anymore. It was their heat burger and it was delish. Might have to ask them what's going on with that. Still very solid.

Gross
I guess that would be pretty embarrassing admitting that you don’t like ranch.Imagine thinking this and then posting it
We aren't talking about chicken strips here, bub. We're talking about burgers. A true burger is a religious experience. I mean…that first bite—oh, what heaven that first bite is. The bun, like a sesame freckled breast of an angel, resting gently on the ketchup and mustard below, flavors mingling in a seductive pas de deux. And then…a pickle! The most playful little pickle! Then a slice of tomato, a leaf of lettuce and a…a patty of ground beef so exquisite, swirling in your mouth, breaking apart, and combining again in a fugue of sweets and savor so delightful. This is no mere sandwich of grilled meat and toasted bread, bub. This is God, speaking to us in food. How dare you...

Yeah, that place is pretty good. Do you live in Shawnee?

6/7 soft yet durable
Fries
2/7 skinny with the like breaded type coating. I'm more of a naturalist
