Putting together a good walk on program is just smart. There is no risk involved, and you get the occasional all conference stud NFL draft pick that went to high school at some podunk school. Every coach should be doing that in their state.

Of course it's smart, but he has gigantic holes to fill in his roster, and he's spending time in Hays talking to walk ons.

Those holes are not getting filled regardless of what Beatty does. This is going to go a long way with his relationship with high school coaches and if KU gives him more than 3 years, it will pay off in the long run.

FACT: KU attendance at football games has been horrible for a long time. Stadium is still in the dark ages compared to almost every other venue.

FACT: KU fires another coach it massively overpaid, giving some ridiculous number of coaches on the payroll.

FACT: KU hires a coach who was not even considered a candidate for a head coaching spot, and does it on the cheap (private money almost ready, tho).

FACT: Said coach comes in with a focus on recruiting walk-ons.

CONCLUSION: Guys, KU has no money left.    Could not pay a coach and cannot afford to offer scholarships.  Should we help them out?

If I were a KU fan right now, I'd be terrified.

There's no way they win more than one game next year.  Yet this doofus will combat that by heading out to Great Bend to get some more walk ons.
