You know what I really like on a burger?  Monterrey Jack (not some weird cowboy/drifter person, THE CHEESE! ) and thick cut bacon.  Also, texas toast or that square italian bread stuff my wife buys that gets nice and crisp with some garlic/olive oil and 400 degree oven treatment prior to serving.

Am disappointed. Was certain it would be about  this,  (http://www.retrojunk.com/img/art-images/goodburger.jpg) which one critic insists is "A very funny movie!!!"

It is very difficult to concentrate on delicious burgers when that ugly avatar of scott drew is crowding my smell/taste memory zone.

Ok, start with some salt and pepper.  Massage them in to the burger.  Add garlic and a light drizzle of olive oil in the pan.  Fry up some onions with your burger.  Then add a fresh tomato.  I'd stay away from cheese, today.  Take a good hard look at a little worcestshire.

I like to go with a 1:1 mix of ground beef and sausage sometimes.  Good flavor.

Also have mixed shredded cheese in with the burger.

i'm low on greenery.  have some basil leaves.   :dunno:

could go to the store, but that seems like a lot of work.  kicking myself for not getting a bag of arugula yesterday.  looked at it for like a solid minute before walking past.

my favorite on that menu is the barnyard but substituting the au pouivre burger and adding a peice of aged white cheddar.

I love pineapple, BBQ sauce, and mozzarella on a burger.

Basically, my favorite burger is an Aloha from So Long.  Amazing.

However, I'd rather make the same thing, but use Oklahoma Joe's Cowtown or Night of the Living Sauce.  I bet that would be fantastic.

ok, i've got the meat salted, peppered and sitting with garlic.

available stuff:  a few basil leaves.  frozen, chopped parsley, italian green peppers, tomatoes, onions, chipotle sauce, some bottled salsas (chipotle, jalapeño, verde (tomatillo bomb), several dried chiles, grana padano, camembert, havarti, blue cheese (spanish, pretty mild), canned roasted red peppers (sweet), chorizo (cured, sweet), jamon serrano, normal spices and stuff.

was thinking maybe a four cheese and green pepper.  or maybe kinda do what i can with the greenery/no cheese idea and hope that the parsley could handle things (with tomatoes).

neither sounds as good as last night's burger.  might just redo it.  i could do something like the inside out, but i'd have to substitute jamon for bacon.  seems like it'd be too strong.   :dunno:

Hard to go wrong with adding bacon.  JMHO.

Adding some spice and topping with the sweet red pepper might be a nice combo.  With the bacon of course.

saute some diced onions, while sauteing make a mixture of soy sauce and worcestershire sauce. Mix all ingredients with meat before cooking.  :lick:

To make it even better add an over easy egg on top with bacon.

Most amazing burger I've ever had that I had my doubts about prior to purchasing ... easily the jerk burger at Vortex in Atlanta.  I have dreams about that burger.

Other favorite combos include bacon+cheddar or avocado+monterey, though I will say anything that includes mushrooms works too.

Anyone have a juicy lucy?  Guessing it resembles the "inside out" burgers some of you are speaking of.  Would like to try.

I don't care if it was kobe beef that had been chewed up and shat by God Almighty.  $12 for that burger wasn't worth it for me.  It was at the Leawood spot anyway. I'd never go north get shanked by all the thugs and gang bangers down at the plaza.

going shopping for burger rounds 3 & 4 in a few.  going to be mushroom pate burger and salad burger.

obvious questions:

bacon yes/no (for both), in the pate or entire (for burger 3)?
cheeses?
raw onion & parsley paste for burger 4, or just minced or sliced onions?
tomato on burger 3, prob only if w. entire bacon amirite?
cheese for burger 4 in a sauce or out of a sauce?  not going to do a yogurt sauce, so don't even suggest.

think that's it for now.  need to get these issues hammered out.

Anyone tried the $100 Burger yet? Pretty sure it's a rip off of this restaurant http://nymag.com/listings/restaurant/db-bistro-moderne/ (http://nymag.com/listings/restaurant/db-bistro-moderne/) attached to the hotel I stayed at in New York a while back.

It seems like "foie gras butter" might be slightly less ethically challenging to me than straight foie gras, but not by much. Still think I would like to try it once.

If you find yourself in Lawrence and need to escape all the hayseeds on Mass Street for a while, walk a block over to Vermont and try the Burger Stand (http://www.theburgerstand.com/THEBURGERSTAND/THE_BURGER_STAND.html) in Dempsey's.  Better than Blanc, IMHO.  Truffle fries def. better than Blanc.

Also, used to get a burger at Henry T's that was called the Fat Tuesday Burger.  Had cajun seasoning and was served with a side of orange marmalade.  It was fantastic.

The burger is pretty spicy with the cajun seasoning....the marmalade cuts it nicely.  Just standard side garnishment in addition to that.  I was skeptical at first, but it really is very good.

The other part of the marmalade burger experience that is great is having a really juicy burger that is also charred a bit....those flavors, along with the spice, mix really well with the orange marmalade.

a good burger should have no more than 3 toppings.

try this:  cream cheese, thick-cut bacon and some peppery greens ('rugala, cress, dandelion greens, endive, etc.)
absolute delish.

i'm going to do this!  except add lots more toppings and replace the cream cheese with a more flavorful cheese.  and i'll probably just have the bacon cut normally.

Have tried all kinds.  Usually use 80/20 or 85/15.  They aren't bad, just not great.

Partook in burger week by going to Five Guys yesterday.  Better than I remembered.

Double cheeseburger with bacon.  Got the BBQ sauce.  Very solid.

Looked in vain for pineapple on the menu.  There wasn't any.  Wished I had a can of Dole pineapple in my pantry that I could have cracked open to put on top.

i mean it's not really pate.  i'm just planning on grinding the 'shrooms into a delicious paste after sauteing with wine and rosemary (maybe bacon).  i can still abort and go with sliced or chopped, but i'm not sure i want the texture.

Worth a shot, I guess.  You probably want to do some sliced mushrooms in the marinade as well, just in case pate disappoints.

this was one of those burgers where everything sounded right, but the experience never lived up to the hype.  don't get me wrong, it was a good meal, delicious in its way, and well paired with the delightful grenache.  just felt like it was a burger on the edge of greatness, but one that collapsed under the weight of its own expectations rather than seizing the reins and running to glory.  i have to take some of the blame for that, obsessed with getting the perfect toast on the bun, i overcooked the burger a touch.  it wasn't killed, by any stretch, but it was more done than it should've been, and that's something i have to live with.

mushroom paste:  frozen "medley" of cultivated 'shrooms, garlic, dried rosemary, pepper, salt, red wine.  - absolutely delicious.  think it could have been better with port instead of the grenache, but i mean, come on, you can't go buying a bottle of port every time you want a mushroom burger.  on it's own, it was fantastic, on the burger, contributed to a saltiness issue that plagued the burger all meal-long.

fried onions:  same issue with the saltiness.
bacon:  you guessed it, a contributor.
chipolte:  you're probably thinking "wait, was this burger too busy, was that the issue?".  well, nope.  tried a bite without the chipolte, definitely not the problem.
blue cheese:  see chipolte.

marinade:  red wine, a touch (just a touch, for eff's sake) of brown sugar, salt, pepper, rosemary, bay leaf, garlic, olive oil.  yeah.  not saying this was the whole problem, but it didn't help.  there was just a lot of taste on top.  the marinade wasn't needed, and in fact detracted from the burger's success.  this was a live and learn; less is more situ.

i'm going to get the meat grinder attachement for my kitchen aid mixer, it's got to be sweet.  i'll start making my own sausages too.  goEMAW sausages will be the best sausages.

now i haven't been there, but there is a place in Chicago called "Kumas." According to several elite sources it is the best burger joint in 'Merica.

A few examples of their work

Kumas is definitely the best burger I've ever had. All burgers are named after rock bands too. Pretzel bun is awesome.

i think some of the really cheap stuff that they sell in 5 lb opaque tubes might be 70%.

i've ground lard into game meats before, but then realized it'd be cheaper to buy really fatty ground beef and grind it in at 1:1 to get an 85%.

really good btw.

Chef Burger is pretty amazing, they dropped their prices after they got new management. $10 for a burger and fries. They have one with egg, bacon and chili.

Blanc is pretty awesome too but really expensive. Thankfully I have a lifetime 25% discount there. Bleu cheese inside the burger? Awesome. Truffle fries? Most amazing thing ever.

Dempsey's in Lawrence is awesome too, despite being in Lawrence. They use Maytag bleu cheese which is God Tier bleu cheese.

Hamburgers are awesome, I chose KSU over other schools because instead of pairing me with some loser frat boy on my senior visits like other schools, at KSU they paired me up with a sorority girl who took me to eat with her sorority sisters at So Long.

There is a difference between "greasy spoon" burgers and the kind you'd find at a place like So-Long that everyone raves about. 9/ 10 if I'm in the mood for a burger I'm thinking greasy spoon.

Obv, Town Topic, and even places like Winstead's in the KC area. Wichita has some great burger West Street Burgers, Bionic Burger, Walt's, etc. West Street is probably my fave.

Those little yellow chili pepper things are good too, but like, what are you supposed to do with them? Just snack on them while you wait?

Make my own usually with lettuce, tomato, Feta, and a cucumber dill sauce.* :lick: Mike's Wine Dive will have them on special sometimes.

*pro tip: Absolutely do not cook past medium.

If you're ever in west(ish) Wichita and have a hankering for a good greasy, cheesy burger don't pass on West Street Burgers. Just north of Kellogg on West St.

I usually go big with a triple cheese. It comes standard with mustard pickles and onions. Their fresh fried potato chips are money as well.

Hi nicname, will you be here in Denver for that weekend of debauchery in July? We could probably take some good burger discussion live.

Antenna America

Burger: pretty good. Kind of like a Midwestern home burger. Perfect pillow-y cloud bun. You could only choose one sauce from a selection of imported American artisanal mustards and BBQ sauce.

Waffle fries: perfect. (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170508/1d37e39a9356f1193f3ba8dda6140a26.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170508/b18337c52dc5f5f757708cd45dda39c6.jpg)

This isn't even a valid question. Chips by light years.

Yeah. Chips are great and spears usually aren't worth ordering.

The problem with spears is most places don't fry them long enough and then you up with soft half-cooked batter inside. So Long Saloon did a good job frying them, but I can't think of another place that does.

The mush to crunch ration is never correct with spears.

i had a Howard's grocery burger today and boys let me tell you the outrageously long beards were out in force, looked like i may have dined
with the autoharp guy from arcade fire and possibly the mandolin player from bon iver.  i'm pretty sure that i've seen the guy flipping burgers playing his melodica on the plaza for spare change.

There is only one beard here and it is medium length at best

the problem with spears is that when you try to take a bite the entire pickle slides out of the fried shell slaps down on to your chin like a boiling lava fire slug, leaving you permanently disfigured.

Humdinger on the east side KCMO on 9th Street.

Burger - 2.7/7 single with cheese LTO mustard. Little thicker than town topic. Burger didn't have much flavor. Sesame seed bun was okay

Chilidog - 3.2/7 served split on a bun. Came with pickles which was weird. Okay chili. Dog was solid.

Tator tots - 5.9/7 solid tots.

I was in Eskridge, KS this weekend to see my grandparents. Like most small towns, you have to drive a ways to eat. Saturday we went to Harveyville (population of 20) and had a fantastic burger at (Hell) Rayzor Roadhouse Sports Bar. It was amazing! Their burgers are a 1/2 LB to a full LB and there as big as your head. Perfect mix of white trash scenery too. I definitely recommend.

tried this today on my way back from a  project meeting.   Very white trashy love that the bathroom has a full shower and bathtub.

Burger was above average and the fries were very good.     My burger was a bit odd though, gives new meaning to the term "left beef".   For some reason they folded my cheese over on one side.

guys, lets be honest I do not want to risk murder by going into Missouri for a burger.
The best burger in the KC area is at Justus drugstore.  But you can only get it when the patio is open.

I'm still on Corvino as best burg for fancy restaurant when parameters are right (past 10pm, patio open, etc)

Their patio used to only open   W, Th, Sun. Now all the time. Was cooked a perfect medium. Grilled onions, Berkshire bacon, Shatto cheese. Fries were solid and plentiful.

Assume an Uber would be $25 from downtown, but just hop on 169. It's 20 minutes.

I think it starts at $10 but you pey for eavh topping.  Or there is a chefs special for probably $13-$15 that is usually the best choice and comes with whatever toppings they decided on.

It's their ketchup.  It's gross, just like regular ketchup, so they did a pretty good job with authenticity.

Burger $10.50 includes fries. Added bacon ($2), cheese ($1.5), grilled onions ($.5). Total $14. Two Boulevard Pale Ales @ $4/. Total $22.

The patio menu runs $10-20 a plate. Inside $20-40 a plate.

Took a trip up to Justus tonight as not boozing to prep for cats tailgate tomorrow. Sat at the bar.....the burg. It's good. It's not OMG good.

Burg....I admit I made a mistake on the cheese and got the cheese spread which I thought might be a pimiento thing....added grilled onions.  Med raw cooked right. 5/7

Fries...very solid. 6.2/7

I'm ashamed I forgot that part and I didn't see that on the menu to remind me.

My dining partners got the pork medallions and reported a solid meh...but the gizzards were easily the best ones I ever had (go chicken go is its own thing so not really comparing those)

I'm still excited to try the real restaurant...it looks great.

Just had a classic Whataburger w/ cheese, mustard, onion, but subbed japs for the pickles. Whatasized with spicy ketchup for dipping. So simple, yet a damn near perfect burger experience.

tried out the new larkburger, burg was pretty good, limited options though.  i got it with fried jalepenos, lettuce, tomato, chipotle sauce, think that's it, it was the toppings they have for their "chicken burger" (chicken sandwich) so i had to order it "chicken-style", kind of weird but whatevs.  fries also pretty good, thin and crispy, although they try to jam them in this pretentious little box thingy that's dumb af.  anyone else tried?  i'll prob have again.

I eat sandwiches almost every day for lunch and I started getting bread thins.  Since I want to be shredded during pool season I used my sandwich bread thins for the bun.

Now as I was making burgermania happen it did cross my mind that the bun situation could be contentious.  I don’t make burgers often so in my best interest I decided to just use my bread thins.

Presentation wise I can see why there is resentment here.  I can assure you guys tho that the bread thins didn’t detract from the overall experience.

Review: DMK Burger Bar, Lakeview, Chicago, IL
Order:
#4 burger, roasted hatch green chile, fried farm egg, smoked bacon, Sonoma Jack.
Parmesan truffle fries

Patty: I'd guess 1/3 lb, half inch thick, well seasoned and seared. Very good. 6/7

Bun: pretty tasty, could have held up better, but solid overall. 4/7

Accoutrements: Hatch Chiles were great, nice spice, cut in bite size pieces. Egg was perfect, slightly runny, almost sunny side up yolk, but not yolk exploding everywhere. Bacon also good, crispy without being crumbly. Cheese was lost in the mix.  5/7

Burger overall: 5.4/7

Fries: good fries, parmesan was a mess. I'd say most similar to Arthur Bryant's fries. 4/7

Beer selection: great, all localish Midwestern brews. Too many IPAs though. 5.5/7

Price: not bad in the area, spent $40 on burger fries and 2 local beers including tip. They do have good happy hour deals. 4.6/7

Atmosphere: good bar, not too big. Good music. Pretty crowded for before 6 on a Tuesday 5/7

Overall: 5.1/7, will go back, but wouldn't go out of my way for it

Beer batter fries are pretty good.  Regardless, a fry should always be clean of any shell or potato skin prior to being served.

BWW and LJS both batter their fries.

Fries were adequate like all are; I've never had a memorable positive or negative side of fries experience.

The pizza part was in a way where you wouldn't have slid it off and cut it into little personal pan slices and had a distinct food item.  It was kind of like if you'd left a cooked little pizza out on the counter for 20 minutes to where it was still warm, but kind of settled into one mass of ingredients and fine to touch the cheese and basically hold it like bread.

It tasted like a burger that had some pizza elements (lot of cheese, pizza sauce) as toppings.

My description makes it sound shitty but I'd def kill another one if I find myself all the way down there for some strange reason in the next week.

Love Dempsey's. It's my back up when Beer Kitchen has a crazy wait. Here's my go to... Nevermind. Just looked up the burger I eat and it's not on the menu anymore. It was their heat burger and it was delish. Might have to ask them what's going on with that. Still very solid.

We aren't talking about chicken strips here, bub. We're talking about burgers. A true burger is a religious experience. I mean…that first bite—oh, what heaven that first bite is. The bun, like a sesame freckled breast of an angel, resting gently on the ketchup and mustard below, flavors mingling in a seductive pas de deux. And then…a pickle! The most playful little pickle! Then a slice of tomato, a leaf of lettuce and a…a patty of ground beef so exquisite, swirling in your mouth, breaking apart, and combining again in a fugue of sweets and savor so delightful. This is no mere sandwich of grilled meat and toasted bread, bub. This is God, speaking to us in food. How dare you...

Now, close your eyes, and imagine someone smothered that divine creation with jalapeño ranch.

Dodge City
Drew Carey
Death Cult
Dork City
Dumpster Cat

But I'm open to other theories...

Took IPA Fiance to her spa treatment today. Stopped for a late lunch in Midway on the way home.

Classic cheeseburger. Grilled onions. Add bacon.

6/7.

Will smash again.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210406/e42a2621f3136b00272aadcfd43c8cd2.jpg)

If you haven’t tried selecting a day of the week to have your own personal BURGERMANIA every week, have you even truly BURGERMANIA’d?

Thursday has been my BURGERMANIA day for about 2 years now.

we hit up tay’s burger shack this evening after receiving a text from starseed who went today for lunch

burger: 4.9 out of 5
I got a triple cheeseburger which is made with three, 4 ounce patties.  cheese is super thick and melty like velveeta
delicious, super greasy, lots of pepper, decent bun- they didn’t try to get fancy with the bread.  shredded lettuce which was surprising, i’m wiping most of it off in that action picture

fries:  6.14 out of 7
pretty crispy, well seasoned.  their siracha ketchup is great

i’m putting the burger slightly behind LC’s and the fries way ahead.  the difference maker in burger taste at LC’s comes from their perfectly grilled onions which sets their burger mojo on a different level

Tay's Burger Shack in North KC.

Burger - 7/7 I got a double and would get a triple next time. Perfectly made flat grill type grease burger.

Fries - 4/7 the flavor is there but mine lacked crispiness

the burger stand in lawrentucky
ask any squawk and they’ll tell you how amazing the place is.  lol. let’s be real.

burger:  2.6/5
dry, flavorless, overcooked cow.  nothing exciting going on with it.

fries: 5.3/7
crispy and decent potato flavor.  house made sauces are pretty good and fun

BURGERMANIA

hiroo shogun burger double cheeseburger

Meat
6/7 tasty and juicie with ample liquid grease. Kind of a weird really coarse grind that gave it a lumpy mouth feel.

Bun
6/7 soft yet durable

Fries
2/7 skinny with the like breaded type coating. I'm more of a naturalist

Outside of the fries, it seems like your descriptions don’t really match up with your number ratings imo.

Guys.  Sorry, no pictures so you'll have to use your vivid imaginations to conjure up an incredible burger.

Took a pound of 85/15 ground beef and made 2 manly half pound patties.
Seasoning - salt, black pepper and a little bit of garlic chowder.  Best results are when you work it deep into the meat and not just on the surface.  That's what she said.
Topped with a slice of smoked gouda, grilled onions and sandwich slim pickles.
Bun - an often overlooked part of the burger game.  Used an onion/poppy seed bun
Overall - 4.8/5, would do again.

Fries - threw a couple handfuls of Kroger brand crinkle cut fries into the air fryer.  These bastards did not get very crispy even after almost 20 minutes.  3.5/7

Good Burger/Burgermania 2022 is off to a good start, just need to tighten up my fry game.

Made some rodeo burgers at home last night and received rave reviews.

1/4 lb ground chuck Pattie’s seasoned generously on both sides w/ Killet TX Brisket rub
Cheddar slices
Bacon
Gates bbq sauce
Pickle
Pickled jalapeños
Nathan’s famous onion rings
All in between two brioche buns toasted in bacon/burger grease
