also, how much do you want to bet Nike and the USSF try to set up an NIT style tournament next summer before the world cup with the US, Holland, Chile, Wales, Paraguay, Ivory Coast, Ghana, China and the losers from the playoffs,

I'm not sure that FIFA would be on board with it though. ESPN would love it.

Also I don't buy this as being some kind of blow to the long term of US soccer. I'm certainly not going to spin this as a good thing either. I do think the end result of this will be better than slogging through a playoff with Australia only to flame out in group play.

The end result may be better, maybe not, but if Sunil wins re-election in February I will not be convinced any net-positive will come of this.

Also, if the ESPN International Invitational Cup hosted in America the two weeks leading into the World Cup existed I don’t think FIFA would lose too much sleep. I just want to see the US play in some high quality friendlies next summer because they need as much game time and even faux competition as possible as they literally won’t have a “meaningful” match until the 2019 Gold Cup

I don't know if this is a head rolling, it was widely suspected that Arena was only on for the world cup qualifying and the tournament. I'm surprised he's out before the friendlies next month, I don't love the idea of an interim manger, even for two friendlies.

it's just going to be Ramos and he's going to call in all the kids playing in Europe and any MLS guys who didn't make the playoffs.

We gonna let Tennessee and John Currie ruin the soccer threads too?

World Cup draw, bitches.

There's no group of death and group A, while usually trash, might be the trashiest of trash this time. They gotta fix this pot system, it's awful.

I'd say D and F look like the toughest, but neither is very group of death'y. I hope our Icelandic boys can make it through.

Gonzalez is choosing El Tri over the USMNT in a devastating blow that will be a kick in the nuts for the next 12+ years.

I have a very hard time giving two shits about this.

What I am pissed about is Tim Melia getting left out of this shitty January camp.

you don't give two shits about an 18 year old who was a starter for the Copa MX winners, and in the Liga MX best XI who has been in the US Youth set up since he was 14 deciding to file a one time switch to our biggest rival in world soccer,  yet you're pissed about a meaningless January Camp that is comprised of like 28/30 players being like under the age of 24? okay...

no you were clear, but i guess i'm just in shock that someone who I think is a pretty smart person and is capable of big picture thinking is more worked up over a GK who is 31 not getting called into a meaningless January camp filled with young players than you are over the US losing one of the best young midfield players in the world.

Just some good footy but will probably find myself rooting for England, Belgium, France and any underdog. Can't wait, CF3!
