it's like he spent all his energy crafting the worst take ever. good lord.
so according to twitter, ESPN is super political? I was not aware of this but I don't watch sportscenter. Only ESPN things I watch are games, occasional baseball tonight, 30 for 30s, and I guess sportscenter if its around a big game like the CFB playoff or Super Bowl or Final Four or something.
There's a great tweet out there that I can't find anymore, but it listed all of the political wammies they continued to force on ppl, instead of covering sports. A gay player never playing a down in the nfl was a story, Caitlin being the "greatest person of the year" or whatever, BLM coverage, A free agent QB kneeling during the anthem, etc. Forcing small figured "sports stars" as a leading story when there were other games they could cover.so according to twitter, ESPN is super political? I think some people (on twitter anyway) probably lump Seth Davis in with the ESPN guys. Sports reporters seem to tweet more often about political stuff than before the last election, but Davis definitely went all in on tweeting political stuff. Of all the sports guys I follow (which is mostly who I follow) he tweets about politics the most.
"Additionally, The Hollywood Reporter reports that Karl Ravech, Ryen Russillo, and Hannah Storm will see their roles “significantly reduced.” THR originally reported that ESPN would allow SportsCenter Anchor John Buccigross’s contract to expire, but has since walked that back."
Damn, maybe I shouldn't, but I like them all.
Don't watch enough to care that much, but geez.

Yeah, in the good old days they would just tell us scores and never report on stupid human interest stories and current events like boxers dodging the draft or a black baseball player trying to get into the majors.

Take what to the pit? It's the consistency of it. Like, following around Tebow because he's christian every where he goes. Nobody gives a eff. It's an interesting story when you first hear it, but then they try and shove it down your throat for months. So maybe the political stuff might be true, you know?
You made a dumb post about how ESPN reports on political and social issues and I sarcastically informed you that politics and social issues have always gone hand-in-hand with sports.
Take a lap, own it, and move on, friend.

Because of the consistency I mentioned about above. You can only cover Tebow scratching his nuts enough at single A ball before they turn the channel. This time they are forcing people to watchThey obviously aren't tho. People are turning away from it now, kinda why there's a thread about it.
Then why did you originally say they forced it on people

Man Jayson Stark is really good at what he does too. Big loss for ESPN. I imagine MLB Network is blowing his phone up rn.
Pretty crazy bloodbath, but probably a long time coming. A lot is FS1 coming into it's own. ESPN has, and still is in a lot of ways the king of the hill. But now it shares it with more services than other. I don't think it's a slow death, as more refocusing. Sucks to lose those guys, just as it sucked to lose grantland. They did outkick their coverage of the tv contracts, but as long as it as live events, which always does way better than any sort of regular programming, it's still going to be quite alright. People though who obsess over the opinion parts (Bayless, Stephen A, etc.) of sports always weird me out those. Like, who gives a crap about that.I like LeBatards two shows, ATH (only when Fagan is on), and PTI. The rest of the crap that isn't live or the one hour of ESPN I'll watch (unless the Cats won big) can go away as far as I'm concerned.
well that's just not true.. having less to do with sports is honestly probably good for them. They evolved much like MTV hasn't played Music videos in who knows how long nowBecause of the consistency I mentioned about above. It's pretty simple. Sports news is more quickly and easily digested off the cable platform. Opinion and entertainment shows thrive in the TV/radio format and you can double-dip. It's also easier to hire cheap talent to cover the news portion and get rid of the older generation who have bloated salaries.
Advertisers also love opinion/entertainment shows, because they draw in the lowest-demographic viewer who are also the most easily influenced by ads.
I wouldn't be surprised if ESPN bought the WWE in the near future as well.
Deadspin's list is at 61 so about 40 more to go. They got Raul Ibanez and Andy Katz :frown:

Evidently ESPN figured out they can just cite other publications' sports journalism without having to keep an army of journalists on payroll.

ESPN should roll out literally cheap imposters.

Evidently ESPN figured out they can just cite other publications' sports journalism without having to keep an army of journalists on payroll.I saw a tweet that ESPN had not cut anyone that was represented by CAA. CAA is a huge Hollywood agent firm that has a few high profile athletes and is the only firm whose "personalities" resign with ESPN. I guess the plan going forward is E!SPN except when they have a game.
Sad to see go:totally agree - I loved their podcast for national CFB and NBA and Danny being the only one of the cuts to fire an angry tweet just showed why he stood out from the typical ESPN corporate chump
Danny Kanell - wouldn't like him on his own but was a great foil to Ryen Russillo.
Eamonn Brennan - enjoyed his writing style/sarcasm
Trent Dilfer - One of the best former player/personality mixes. Fun to have him around when "Dilfer won a super bowl" would come up.
Sad to hear Ryen Russillo having a reduced role. Always enjoyed him on radio and he was just starting to get comfortable on TV.

Journalism may be the weakest degree that exists. I have no sympathy for anyone losing a job that involves asking easy questions and opinion piecesI have a journalism degree. It helps people from being unconfident akward losers and i'm doing fine. Also, a degree is better than no degree. Maybe take a jab at Psych degrees.

Not yet and you have to become a doctor to hold the true psych position. Most psych bachelor degrees end up in "sales, recruiting, etc." I've worked with a crap ton of them. Also, I don't believe there's a general studies degree at K-State. You might as well call it a business degree.Journalism may be the weakest degree that exists. General studies is probably the weakest degree IMO. Also aren't you going to a psych degree holder right now? I think they are decent degrees :dunno:

I used to smdh at journalism and business majors (or basically most non-stem degrees) but now I just look at like people have different skills and interests so who gaf.So true. Like anything else, it's what you make of it. I can't shut up and i'm super social and somehow that works for what I do. Most general degrees lead to entry level roles anyways.
except for maybe accounting and kind of finance.Yup. Almost why I almost went back to be an accountant. I was sick of making crap $. I've always been good at math too. Advanced classes in HS and stuff.
I have a business degree and don't use it at all
I have a business degree and don't use it at allNo offense, but that's why I've never understood double majors. You might as well settle with whatever degree you get and then move on to get a masters. It's different for you tho, because didn't you get your business degree first and then go back for IT?

Yeah I got my degree then found out I should probably have never gone into that to begin with. Looking back I should have gone into IT from the start but life doesn't always point you in the right direction right away.
geography and women's studies are all you need for a career in IT
Geography minor. :gocho:

There are two noticeable and unexplained upticks on that chart, 1) just after Oct 15, 2) just after Oct 16. I wonder what those were?
ESPN was much more enjoyable when it was reruns of sportscenter all day, and sportscenter was just highlights and desk jockies screaming catch phrases. 1 hour on sunday of the sports reporters was sufficient editorial material for the week.
I quit watching when it evolved into hours of boring human interest pieces, shock jocks screaming stupid crap at each other, and lame ass docudramas.
Highlights + men's sports was all it ever needed to be (and some world's strongest man).
I just listened to Fitz's podcast and he had the brownest of brown takes. Every bad opinion you can think of he hit, including trashing The 6. The funny part to me was him ranting about ESPN overpaying for rights fees because of arrogance, then he punctuated the rant by saying, without irony, "I just watch ESPN for the games."
The problem with being "highlight centric" is that in 2017, by the time the highlight show comes on, everyone has already seen the ones they care about on their phone. I can't remember the last time I sat through Sportscenter other than it being on in the background at the gym.ESPN was much more enjoyable when it was reruns of sportscenter all day, and sportscenter was just highlights and desk jockies screaming catch phrases. 1 hour on sunday of the sports reporters was sufficient editorial material for the week.

Spot on. As they grew, they felt the need to compete with other media outlets. And so many of the arenas they are trying to compete in don't fit for TV.

Did you have a question Cf3? I listen because I enjoy K-State news and I like being entertained. That podcast certainly has an abundance of news and entertainment. There is also no correlation between likeability and having a terrible opinion on a sports network.

Interesting that ESPN fired Marc Stein and Chad Ford, yet found the money to pay Woj.that was a bribe to keep him from ruining the NBA draft. He is leaving yahoo and joining ESPN on July 1st but he was still scooping the picks on twitter
