If you need a reference, I can vouch for the yard dog.  He's a sweetheart and not nearly as dumb as you may think. People often mistake kindness for stupidity; it's the unfortunate way of the world. He's actually quite gifted, intellectually.

I appreciate your vote of confidence.  Job searches tend to be very discouraging. Now if you know of anyone in the DC area, you'd be my hero.

You better make sure your employer provided health care covers abortion and std counselling, because if it doesn't your employer is likely warring against women.

The issue here is that I spent a lot of money going to school and racked up some impressive student loan debts.  I'm working two jobs right now to pay those bills.  Last month was a doozy with taxes, car tax, and some car repair all in the same month.  If the next few months aren't fruitful on the job search front I'm hoping I've saved enough that I can move then and pay those bills without a job.  As it is now, I couldn't move today and afford to do that.

I never meant to lead anyone astray on this point.  I graduated May 2012.  The prospective  :crossfingers: Mrs. Ydarg graduates from graduate school in May and starts her job in DC at the end of the month.  I've been looking since she was offered the job for positions in the area.

I have heard mention of KSU alumni groups on LinkedIn. I've posted in the Kansas State University Alumni group.  I'll be searching around for other groups on there that might be relevant.

Why are you only looking at DC?

The hopefully future Mrs. Ydarg just got a big time job there.

ask to share bank accounts, tell her you have a full time marketing position... work PT at McD's and play golf 4 times a week.

This is the solution. No way you can go wrong with this one.

That's funny because I have a cousin in D.C.  He spends his days schmoozing politicians to vote in favor of whatever the unions want.  That and going to every Capitals game.  What a bum.

If only. I'd first need to convince her to pay off my student loans.

here's what I, a potential employer, know about yardog:

-starts job search threads in the pit
-low to low medium message boarder
-claims graphic design ability yet has produced no good BBS media
-that post about the average salary in his field was very beems'ish

yardog, you're hired. now you're fired.

I'm taking the robot.

Yeah. This would be my advice.  I tried the whole "apply from out of town" thing for a while and got no where. Just save up enough for two months rent and a one way ticket and roll the dice. Me and Mrs. Rex were in a similar position, except that neither of us had jobs lined up. Have a little faith in yourself and burn the ships. There's usually tons of paralegal type jobs you can work to pay the bills in the meantime.

Also, I'm terrible at networking. So, maybe keep that in mind when evaluating my advice.
"How will I recruit to Manhattan? Well, distance. And the proud state of basketball. It start there, and then daily flights to Dallas, because I'm really good at going out. Like top five good. Ask my wife. She wants me to be happy."

Hmm. I feel like I may have understated how terrible I am at networking by not leading with that. Seriously, I know about 7 people in the DC Metro area, and I think two of them moved to New York.

The issue becomes saving up two months rent.  In that area that could run close to 1500.  My monthly bills (car and student loans) runs close to 600.  So two months with no job would still cost me about 2100 and that isnt including deposit on an apartment or food. :(
