I also have tried the Eggo variety, and it's rather bland.  I can smell the maple syrup flavoring as it toasts, but it's just meh to eat.  The Apple Jacks collab was equally disappointing, but at least I finished that box.

We have Frosted Cookies & Cr?me and Frosted Chocolate Chip in the house, but I'm a basic Brown Sugar Cinnamon and Frosted Strawberry cat.  I'll have to work some Frosted Cherry into the rotation.

Next five conference slates:

2024
Home: Illinois, Rutgers, UCLA, Wisconsin
Away: Indiana, Iowa, Ohio State, Purdue, USC

2025
Home: Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, Northwestern, USC
Away: Maryland, Minnesota, Penn State, UCLA

2026
Home: Indiana, Maryland, Ohio State, Washington
Away: Illinois, Iowa, Michigan State, Oregon, Rutgers

2027
Home: Iowa, Minnesota, Oregon, Purdue, Rutgers
Away: Northwestern, Ohio State, Washington, Wisconsin

2028
Home: Northwestern, Penn State, UCLA, Wisconsin
Away: Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Purdue, USC

Seems like a fairly balanced mix, with three or four premier teams a year, but all of these look more challenging than what they've been struggling against.

Also, the divisions go away next year. They are probably going to have to start playing 2 or 3 teams that finish above .500 most years. They are so mumped.
I haven't analyzed the big 10's future schedules, but I assume it's a lot like ours.

I see Iowa is their protected matchup... but they will have to deal with each of UM, OSU, PSU, USC, and Oregon roughly two out of four or five years?  (Not to mention MSU, Wisconsin, Washington, and UCLA?)  Good luck with all that.

What a great game! I was 10 but I remember it vividly.  :emawkid: :emawkid: :emawkid:
It's wild, I was there (sober, even), but I don't remember much of it at all.

Is it possible they have used a semi protected format for "secondary" rivalries?  Meaning we play ISU 3/4 years in these four year cycles.

Maybe, but the three out four games seem largely random a.f.

It's not random, it's primarily geographical.  That's why you see the clustering in that chart - going from upper-left to lower-right, the teams are arranged by region:  West, Plains, East, Texas.

But to make everything work, most teams are going to have one or two odd pairings.  Cincinnati might not be one of our closest neighbors, for example, but we're one of theirs.

There are certainly a couple of head-scratchers I can't defend, like how BYU/Colorado and UCF/Houston aren't 3/4 matchups, but BYU/UCF and Colorado/Houston are.

Our not-a-pod of KU+CU/OSU/ISU/UC feels like it might be easier than most over the long haul.  Depends on how things go in Colorado, I guess.

I am only disappointed that I won’t get to see a game in Florida until 2027, and only once per four years.

8
We still get it 75% of the time, it'll be fine.

This new matrix is a thing of beauty, thank god we avoided pods.

In fact, there are very few protected rivalries:

KSU/KU
ASU/AU
BYU/UU
TCU/BU

No rivalries: CU, TTU, UH, OSU, ISU, CIN, WVU, UCF

Teams without rivalries have six opponents that they'll face three out of four years.  Teams with rivalries have four such opponents.  Everyone else plays twice out of four years.

Anybody ever go to a game in this hellhole? I’ve never been but the place sounds hilarious.
I've been there twice, once for a Rays game, the other for the 2009 St. Petersburg Bowl (presented by Beef 'O' Brady's®) between UCF and Rutgers.  It was the very worst.

Exactly, it feels like it would be reckless for the Fins to go into the season with just two, and I don't think they can safely stash either of these dudes on the scout team.

Is Skylar still playing?
Yes, as mentioned, he got the second half of the first preseason game, but he didn't do much for his cause.  Still, he'll likely get the start in the next game:

Quote from: Mike McDaniel press conference
Q. What do you assess from this backup quarterback battle…?
MIKE McDANIEL: What's important to keep in mind is there's a lot of things that go in – you don't just look at it like okay, Mike (White) did better than Skylar (Thompson). It's much more complicated than that in terms of the opportunities both had. Skylar needs an opportunity to play with the same guys that Mike played with, which he'll probably get next week. I think it's about how people learn, react, and especially with quarterbacks, you have to be very coachable. There's going to be a point where Tua is going to be taking all the reps and you'd better be learning from the things that you did in the preseason and the things that Tua is learning from. Quite critical in the whole evaluation process is how guys move forward from here.

Q. Have you seen enough – I guess enough is not the right word, but you have full confidence that the group (of quarterbacks) you have is the group you're going to go forward with in the regular season?
MIKE McDANIEL: I mean, I think the competition has been awesome in camp. It's been back and forth. Very happy with the room overall. I think a lot of people would be cutting out the league if you overreacted to one game situation. Again, I'll find out watching the tape tomorrow how much other players knew what they were doing when Skylar (Thompson) was in, when Mike (White) was in. That takes a toll as well as the quarterback when you're trying to do your job and having to tell other people what to do. I've been very happy with the group overall. They've done some productive things at the NFL level on numerous occasions. Preseason (Week) 1 is not going to get me to overreact to anything. Happy with the group.

I wish the "I know a spot" shirt wasn't long-sleeved.

I am 100% sincere when I say bring Wazzou & Chainsaw Aggie instead of Utah & ASU.

With all due respect, that's silly as hell. Those have long been two G5 athletic departments in a P5 conference. Neither have had any sustained success in any sport. They have been drowning in the Pac 12 and you want to bring them into the Big 12? Come on man, their football attendance and ratings have been worse than KU. It sucks that they are getting demoted but they are in no way of the top 64 athletic departments in college athletics.

I must admit I liked the idea purely for spite which is why I don't get to make the decisions. Bring in ASU/UU, fine. Watching them fight it out amongst their in state rivals would be fun.

edit oh and I also did like us getting PST teams.

Yeah. I was sharing my opinion. I think they would be more fun. But I also have a concern that Utah & ASU would be toxic to the conference leaders. I get why most say take Utah/ASU, but I’d personally enjoy Oregon State & Wazzou more.

More eager partners.
If that's the bar, there are still better choices in the G5 right now.

Is Colorado the only team in the known 13 teams for 2024 that have ever won a natty?

Oklahoma State claims one.
Hell, UCF claims one.  ;)

We had Jerome Tang for zero of those.
Yeah, I'm not trying to argue that we shouldn't win all the games in the foreseeable future.  Just, damn, that dude had our number in '11.

The free wins in basketball will be nice.
Somehow, we're 0-4 against CU under Tad Boyle, and we had Pullen and McGruder for three of those.

I actually do not want Oregon.
I'm not saying this applies to Oregon, but there is/was definitely a birthright entitlement attitude POV infecting the PAC.  Kliavkoff is as much the symptom as the disease.  We just rid ourselves of Texas, we don't need that back.

I'm on board with this.  We're becoming a conference of peers (more or less), and Oregon definitely does not see us that way.  They'd have a foot out the door before they even arrive.  I think Yormark's comment about wanting teams that want to be here was aimed squarely at them (and possibly Utah).

https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/37820756/why-big-ten-ditched-divisions-protected-11-games

I think the big 10 got it right for the most part (No protected games for PSU is a little odd, though).  They went through a bunch of scenarios with a pair of remote schools in the fold, and decided that divisions suck, and pods suck.

It was also wise not to try to assign the same number of protected matchups for every school - who would USC or UCLA care about beyond their game with each other?

If we were to steal this scheme verbatim, what are the 11 matchups in the post-traitor XII that you would like to see protected?  I'm not sure there are 11.

Sunflower
Farmageddon
KSU/OSU
UC/WVU
UC/UCF
BU/BYU
Various combinations of Texas schools, I guess?  TCU/BU, but then what?

Yeah you're right, it's just the homeschool thing is definitely a trigger for me because of how the education system is being used to fight culture wars.

Anyway, back to football, yay sports!

Being in Oklahoma, I’m right there with you on the school thing. We’re in 2 of the worst states for it.

Texas says hi
Missouri says hello.
