Drafting QBs
« on: August 14, 2017, 01:29:38 PM »
Give the pool of all QBs who:

1) played at least one snap at KSU
2) in the past 25 years

This includes:
Jason Smargiasso, Matt Garber, Chad May, Brian Kavanagh, Matt Miller, Jonathan Beasley, Michael Bishop, Adam Helm, Casey Vidricksen, Jeremy Milne, Ell Roberson, Marc Dunn, Jeff Schwinn, Dylan Meier, Allen Webb, Allan Evridge, Josh Freeman, Carson Coffman, Grant Gregory, Collin Klein, Sammuel Lamur, Daniel Sams, Jake Waters, Joe Hubener, Kody Cook, Jesse Ertz, Alex Delton

what is your draft order (top 10 ONLY) based on "skill/potential" to play college QB.

1. Mike Bishop
2. Josh Freeman
3. Ell Roberson
4. Jesse Ertz
5. Jonathan Beasley
6. Chad May
7. Collin Klein
8. Jake Waters
9. Matt Miller
10. Daniel Sams

Got pretty hard toward the end there.

He may ascend the list, but right now, he's put about half a season of good football together.  Definitely reason to be optimistic, but right now, I'd take someone with a more proven track record.

Semi-related: I've wondered before how much Freeman could have benefited from staying for his senior season and spending a year under Snyder. Can't imagine it would have improved his draft stock, but I do wonder if it could have made him a little tougher.

I suppose you could either make the argument that him toughening up a bit might have given him a year or two more in the NFL.  Or, that he would have slipped a few rounds lower in the draft (e.g. Snyder kills all QB's, few showcased pro style experiences fresh in scouts mind, blah blah blah).

I don't know if he was willing and able to run the ball like Snyder wants the QB to run, which is completely fine, the guy was an arm for hire. He was just as good as Tim Couch who was an overall #1 pick.

Staying would almost assuredly cost him draft position as his passing numbers would have come down in the slothfense w/o Jordy and with DT.

I definitely understand why he left when he did and can't really fault him for it. And it's not like one year under Snyder would have added years to his NFL career or anything. It's just something that's crossed my mind a couple times. I guess I forgot how much the offense relied on DT in '09. Outside of Banks, Freeman wouldn't have had many guys to throw to. Unless I'm forgetting someone obvious...

1. Bishop (Heisman runner-up)
2. Roberson (Back to back 11 win seasons)
3. Klein (Heisman finalist)
4. May
5. Waters (underrated)
6. Beasley (Back to back 11 win seasons + two bowl victories)
7. Freeman (TO prone)
8. Ertz (could move up to #4 with a great season)
9. Miller/Kavanagh
10. Sams

Our receivers in '09 would have been a lot better with an NFL QB throwing them passes instead of CCQ and Grant Gregory.

Chad May fan club member right here too. I am old balls tho...maybe I am too emotionally invested in him.

First man to QB the Cats to back to back bowls.

Bishop
Roberson
Freeman
May
Klein
Miller
Ertz
Beas
Waters

This is hard because I basically make a list of who I want and not necessarily what the OP (op) asked for.

Notice that everyone who thinks highly of Beasley mentions the team record and not his actual skill. I was hoping someone would mention the rushing touchdowns so I can mock him for being a goal line touchdown vulture.
