It's looking like we are a very solid bet to be a 2 seed.  When they announce the brackets, I'll be looking for two things.  First, that we are not in Purdue's bracket.  Second, that we are not in KU's bracket.  I would MUCH rather play Houston or Alabama if we made it to the elite 8.
Thoughts on how many games we need to win in Kansas City to wrap up a 2 seed?

Assuming we win at least 1 of the final two regular season? 1 game IMO.

I think this is how I think it breaks down (not all scenarios but enough)

Reg season 0-2, KC 0-1: 3 seed
Reg season 1-1, KC 0-1: 3 seed
Reg season 2-0, KC 0-1: 3 seed (maybe 2, probably good enough but I can see us being punished a bit)
Reg season 1-1, KC 1 to 3 wins: 2 seed
Reg season 2-0, KC 1 to 2 wins: 2 seed
Reg season 2-0, KC 3-0: 1 seed (yes, think we would/could)

I think beating OU unofficially officially shuts the door on sliding to a four seed. After that its pretty complex with jockeying for position with UT and BU. I am not sure how Zaga comes into play.

BYU, Houston, Cincinnati, and Central Florida. Sue the eff out of everyone and remain a P5.

This needs to be done by 2023.

It absolutely should not. If the elite 8 holds steady we're all getting $40 million a year for the next 4 years, that's even more than the ACC and Pac 12. No one is making that, even if someone gets a deal from the Big 10 because they won't get a full share right away.

Do nothing until the summer of 2024, then start weighing your options for July 1, 2025.

I think you absolutely right but I think it starts at 40. Could be higher considering the big 12 should now own UT/OU media rights for the remainder of the GoR. Also looking potential a good chunk in changes in buyouts / damages / penalties. It is too expensive for another school to leave before the grant of rights, thus I don't see the purpose of adding additional teams until those rights expire. Stay with an 8 team split, also adds additional OOC game. Big 12 currently should be sitting on a crap on money.

Why does timing matter all that much. This class is probably not all that important in the grand scheme of things.

One thing I don’t understand is the entourage issue, feel like it can’t really be money related. Anybody want to help me out.

the incoming class that this coach will for sure (unless he's all Turner Gilly) see through their entire career here isn't important?

It isn’t going to be a very good class either way. The next class should leap frog that class on the depth chart. If not there are bigger problems.

well of course, you want your recruiting to improve each year, but if we can flip a few kids now, that will be crucial for the next couple of years.

So it seems like Norwood and Sieler have couple recruits tied to their hip if they stay aboard. Seth can bring 5-6ish of his top UNT commits. Hopefully part of his new staff can bring on some commits too. That probably can get the singing day class to about 20.

All this can be done if things get wrapped up in a week. So I don’t think timing is super important, yet. But still the class would consist of K-State’s current recruits plus C-USA recurits. So not very good.

But yes, there is a chance to sign 3-5 kids that are above this level if things can get wrapped up soon. But I don’t think that makes or breaks anything.

I am able to confirm Pete's original post on this thread with a few more details:
-Bill is retiring tomorrow
-Bill wanted to take another run at it and did not want to go.
-Sean had to get involved and convince him to preserve his legacy and not ruin 2.0 by getting fired.
-Venzy was approached and said no
-Leavitt was interviewed and Gene didn't feel he was the right fit
-Seth LittreLL said yes and will be introduced as the next head football coach at Kansas State University on Monday.

have a good evening everybody !   :billdance:

With this being a huge recruiting weekend with most of our top targets being in town, why would they wait to announce the new hire of Lifttrell until Monday...

Would make more sense to announce tomorrow and let him meet all the new 'cruits.

 :peek:

there isn’t a chance in hell that bbj could play in the nba
way too small framed imo

Devonte Graham is currently project as a early second round draft pick, regardless of it being right or wrong. I don't think their is a valid argument argument that separates Senior Graham from Junior Brown. Thus I don't think there is validity in "no chance in hell".

3pt %

Brown has made more 2pt shots in conference than Devonte has made all year. He is shooting 15% better on twos than Graham. So that why Brown's has a higher in conference ORTG. A tag along stat that has some sample size issues is Brown is shooting better behind the arc in conference play.

Individual stats (used all games for these):

Dean and Barry making a case for All Big 12 of some sort.

If you look at the Porpagatu stat for big 12 play here is what would be the three Big 12 teams.

Dean and Brown will be the two highest PPG!(Porpagatu) returning next year in the Big 12. I don't feel great about them to continuing to play this well for the rest of the season.

Here is Diarra for anyone who is interested.

Rank Name       MIN %    PPG!   ORTG      USG . EFG
28 Cartier Diarra 66.0   3.4   112.8   18.6   69.7

Could be an interesting domino effect that could involve K-State if Jimbo Fisher is pushed out/leaves FSU.
How do you think?

Jimbo moves on, Taggart leaves Oregon for FSU (he and Strong (lol) rumored to be top candidates), Oregon brings in new coach/staff, Leavitt unemployed?

Definitely a reach, but sounds like Jimbo leaving Tally sounds pretty likely at least.

Welp, first few parts have now developed. Sounds like Leavitt will get a hard look as HC at Oregon or follow Taggart to FSU, though.

Could still be interesting.

If he goes to FSU with Taggart, I don't see that athletic department agreeing to that K-State clause. It seems very odd that clause is even needed for an assistant coach on the first place.

Isn’t a buyout for an assistant coach to move up to head coach weird to start off with?

11
Venables is wise beyond his years IMO. Most people could use the same kind of clarity with their careers. I have no doubt Venables would be offered and would take a HC job if he felt he had all the resources he needed AND would not get forced out by year 3 or 5 if he’s not winning 10 games or conference championships. It makes complete sense not to want to leave a $1 million+ per year job where you’re doing what you love without the bureaucratic BS and constant scrutiny.
Yep, it is rich from any message board to say cordinators don’t get scrutinized and have longevity. In fact the best longevity coaches receive are buyout terms in a contract and the coaches with the best terms are head coaches. I would also say taking a job like UCF or FAU would have less pressure than high end cordinator spot. But I can’t say for certain but I assume fans at Clemson have higher expectations.

I am not sure why Venables hasn’t taken another job. He is going to flirt every year in hopes to get more money out of clemson, but as of now his actions speak louder than words. He really doesn’t seem to want a head job.

I corrected the individual stats above. Wade's involvement was poor. He should never be under 10 points per 100 possessions he plays.

With out the foul trouble he is flirting with a triple double. Dean and Sneed need to stay on the court for defense and rebounding.

I think we will be fine, defense will get cleaner specially the benches D. The issue is the margin for error with our schedule is so small.

13
Not sure what bad things others have seen from our bigs.  Mawien only plays 4 minutes last night due to foul trouble and Sallah came in and went for 11 points and 9 rebounds in 20 minutes. Showed a nice mid range jump shot.  Stockard with 4 points and 4 rebounds in 10 minutes.   Can't judge them good or bad til we see them against high level competition but we already know Sallah had 13 rebounds against ISU last year.

I need to see the bigs show something against legitimate competition. We'll know more after the Thanksgiving tournament with 2 decent games.

It looks like Wade and Sneed are poised to take a big step this year, but I'm not sure Brown and Stokes are going to make a big jump. Diarra and Wainright look like guys that can help on the perimeter, but we probably need one to be really good. We can live without a really dominant big if everyone else really steps up, but that's yet to be seen. Mawein and Sallah are going to have some growing pains at this level.

Playing next to Dean at the 5 is really easy when he is attacking. I don't think the competition is a big factor for Sallah or Mawien, it isn't like they are taking their guys. Question will be what happens when Dean becomes the focal point of the defense.

15
We might know something about this team in late November, early December.

I'm anxious to see if Sneed, Wade, Brown, Stokes are better (at least 2 must be All Big 12 level players), if Diarra is the real deal, and if any of these transfer bigs are any good.

oscar is going to play with so much balance. Those four guys are probably going to have possessions rates between roughly 20-23. The key will if Sneed and Wade can have higher shot percentages and Brown and Stokes imporving their efficiency. Is anybody going to be impactful enough to be all big 12? The one thing that probably could push them in the top half of the big 12 would be defense. oscar has proven that he an have really good defenses at times.

16
After seeing Diarra. It wouldn’t be surprising if this team was a little bit better than last years team.

17
Bigs, rebounding are a concern for me.

Sneed, Wade, Brown, Stokes, Diarra look like a nice core though.

DJamer defensive rebounding was poor enough to assume that randomly assortment of bigs can provide a lift. The trick will be replacing Wes outrageously good defensive rebounding rate. Brown, Sneed and Brown seemed to provide some hope Sunday.

Is it possible you can post your 100 possession table in this thread. With last years numbers too or convert rebounding, turnover and Assisit to possession rates? Just so we have something to compare against.

18
If kenpom is right, the league will be crazy.

The big 12 could be really competitive but I don't think the big 12 it is setup to be predictable. I don't think many of the coaches have good data sets on expectations and there are some weird extremes going on. Boyton in his 1st year. Dixon and Beard in 2nd year. Prohm and Smart entering 3rd year.

19
Picked 9/10 by SI. I hope they're wrong.

Its more likely we finished lets say 6th instead of 10th. The majority of the league is in the same boat. Hell 2 games separate 4th from 10th. Most of the leagues projections are based on assumed 0 values and lot of those assumptions are going to be wrong. Whole league is a mess trying to predict is rough ridin' insane.

20
We haven’t been this aggressive offensively in a while.

21
Oscar lives in a weird world. If you look at his history, he is most likely going to grind on the bubble at a oddly low analytical ranking somewhere around the mid 30s. To achieve an oddly high NCAA tournament seeding something around 9. Going to have a couple gut wrenching loses and they are going to hurt because he is grinding on the bubble. But the truth is he isn't really grinding on the bubble he is grinding on getting mumped or rough ridin' himself on getting seed mumped.

The weird part is he has always been in a power conference that is small enough and the quality of teams to allow this to be a continuous pattern.

The hot takes fanatics would be making would be great. Squawks braggin about their conference winning streak at 9-9. oscar DOers bragging about another conference championship, oscar DON'Ters shaming about a 10th place finish. NCAA committee shitting themselves. All great things

1) Highest kenpom ranked for last place last place conference team is in play. (Record might actually Texas last year at 70)

2) I personally want to see a ten way in big 12 play. Very unlikely but it has never been more likely.
