Is this normal? I always assumed ad placement was decided by the broadcasting station rather than the actual show.

While you are probably right, I think it is the right of a free society to spend your money on anything you want as long as it isn't hurting anyone else/anyone else's property. That being said, there was probably a more nuanced approach that wouldn't have been nearly as divisive as this ad appears to be that the network would have given a green light to.

As already posted, it's not a commercial but an ad in the media guide. NFL gets to approve the media guide and not commercials. Expecting them to approve an ad targeting their players is probably dumb.

That does make a lot of sense, sorry I missed it. So to Matt's point earlier, a commercial would cost roughly the same as enough money to hire some legit VA staff that don't suck at their jobs. But, by submitting the ad, and getting the ad rejected they just got the 100% free viral marketing they were after. So technically they spent zero money and an entire community of racist rednecks are using their hashtag. Sounds like a PR victory to me.

Very media savvy, but I have no clue what the point is. Maybe they were hoping to stir up a bunch of angry donations. If so, good for them.
