You surely know that this isn't the most reasonable explanation. You think that he went to the locker room, took his cleats and socks off, then put his cleats back on to go back to the field
with the intention of not playing? It is far more reasonable that, after taking off his socks, he found out he had not been ejected (or knew the whole time, whatever), so he put just his cleats on to save time (given how little time was left) and ran back to the field.
Some part of you must know this.
