Just moved a good distance.  DIY as we didn't have 7k for complete movers.
Uniform boxes = good for OCD
Movers of any kind (used hireahelper.com) a HUGE help.  3 guys for a few hours makes it so much easier for big stuff.  Wasn't expensive either.

Easiest move I've ever had, kinda sucks not having a couch for a week but very happy I don't have to move it

I have to move a mile down the street in a couple months.  Seems way more cost-efficient to pay movers than rounding up pak'rs and driving big trucks back and forth through the market and tourists.

Haven't heard back from the moving people on pricing, but I've gathered for a local thing like this it'd be by the hour.  I have work files and things that I'd need to organize and pack up myself in advance, and then I could pack some of my own things if time allows to save some time/money.

Will these people normally disassemble my bed and couch to the extent necessary to move them and reassemble them, to where I can sleep and watch tv normally up until they show up and right after they leave the new place?

I'd buy new furniture and have almost nothing to move, but I like the ikea couch and I think it'd be more of a pain in the ass to try dispose of my bedroom furniture - even just finding a place to throw it away - than it'll be to move it.

I'll add to this as I find things.  Will be able to deliver to claim'rs at FattyFest or put certain items into the FattyFest auction.

It sucks so hard.  Even though I'll be getting a much better place in at least an equally good location, I had tried everything I could do to work with the current place to be able to stay and avoid moving.  They still refuse to acknowledge that it's unacceptable to be drilling into the building without notice throughout the entire day and that the price needs to be adjusted accordingly.  A bad thing is that I'm moving further from the courthouse so now I'll have to uber there instead of walking when I sue them.

The movers should disassemble and then reassemble your furniture.

movers i used a year ago disassembled and reassembled, it just takes them time which you end up paying for, but still worth it

They just emailed me and said it'd be $150/hour w/3 of them and their truck, but I need to call them to say how many items they're moving to guess the time.  I don't think I care what their guess is, and if items includes boxes w/things in them, I'd have no idea.  However long it takes is what it takes.  $150/hour good?

The assembling/disassembling is pretty minimal.  There's the blog'd about ikea couch that probably just needs the last half of the steps or less undone and done again, a dresser with a mirror barely attached that will probably completely break in the move (gooch and I half-broke it last time) and thus not need to be reattached, and a pretty basic 3-4 part bed.

I paid our guys $150 an hour to pack our stuff up, move it to the new joint, and then place boxes, etc. in the correct rooms.  I took our beds apart and subsequently put them together at the new place, but they would do that if you wanted them to.  For reference, they loaded, moved, and unloaded everything for our house in about 8 hours.  I would guess it would probably take them about half of that for your place (if not less).  Best money I ever spent.

Yeah, seems pretty reasonable to me.  My buddy here recommended them and said they were well-priced, and I figure he probably researched all that when he used them, so I don't have to.  I'll have enough of my stuff already packed up or discarded that it shouldn't be any more time-consuming than normal.  And I'll have 4-5 days of overlap to clean up my old place and move any little straggling things myself.

I've used movers twice and will only use pack and movers going forward. Best value in spending money on stuff by far

while I may hire someone to move the heavy stuff, we are only moving 2 blocks, so I refuse to pay for that.     The bigger issues are doing some prep for listing ours (replacing worn flooring, etc.) in the midst of oldest sons birthday parties, holiday weekend where we are travelling, etc..   Then keeping the house clean for showings with 2 kids under 8 and 2 dogs.

It’s ok when someone else does it and pays for it. You just have to pack up the filthy embarrassing items beforehand.

I mean I have a lot of help. It’s not THAT bad, I just wanted to complain a bit. This is the first move where I will actually be able to pay people to move me, but it’s still the rough ridin' worst.

“Hey! No, I don’t want that packed like that!”

“Umm, that’s really fragile can you like....please, be careful with that, it costs more than the entire move”

That kind of stuff.

My experience with hiring movers is they do a way better job packing things than I ever would.
