K-State Volleyball to Make Special Announcement Tuesday
Suzie Fritz, John Currie to hold press conference at 3 p.m.

April 8, 2013

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Kansas State Head Volleyball Coach Suzie Fritz and Athletics Director John Currie will make a special announcement regarding K-State Volleyball during a press conference scheduled for Tuesday, April 9. The press conference will be held in the Legends Room at Bramalge Coliseum at 3 p.m.

Anyone else dying to see what this is about?

My initial guess is either a facilities upgrade or she's been named as an assistant to the national team.

I hope it is upgrades. I think they along with indoor track deserve a better practice facility and locker rooms.

I like the idea of Ahearn still being used, but there could be a baller as crap volleyball arena to be built for relatively cheap.

I like it too, it probably isn't hot as balls on August and early September during games either.

At one time, and it may still hold true today.  LSnyder wanted a new practice complex across the street from Vanier with an indoor practice facility, and bridge across Kimball.   If that ever comes to pass, move indoor track to the old football indoor facility, and then renovate Ahearn and put the Volleyball court running the way the basketball court used to run.

That would be somewhat better but I think Ahearn is just way too big and cavernous for volleyball no matter the configuration. The only benefit to Ahearn are the practice courts that they use that they used to share with basketball.

Brandenberry is a warehouse, it wouldn't be a good volleyball arena.

Maybe the presser will announce they're putting a dome over Memorial Stadium for the v-ballers and others?  (No sources on this, good or bad. Project renderings rumored to be under lock and key somewhere off campus).

I was kinda right, weird for that to be a press conference in the legends room though.

Okay. It is also used for some club sports practices in the winter and kids baseball camps.

I am glad they're getting the opportunity but really??

Hate this time of the year.

Likely since pros can play in Universiade, and the Euros will likely have a lot of pros. I'm guessing Russia is going to be tough. Also worth noting that the USA hasn't sent a women's volleyball team to this since 1997 and this happens every two years.

The biggest benefit of this is that we are allowed to have unlimited practices from the time that spring semester ends until the end of the event. That's nearly two months of practice after spring ball, its a huge advantage. One thing that might work against us when it comes to practice is that the FISU limits the volleyball roster to 12 as opposed to the 15 that are allowed by the NCAA. In addition to this Lilla Porubek and Natali Jones can't play because they are citizens of other countries, Jones has dual citizenship but still not legal to play. I hope that doesn't limit their ability to practice though because, especially in the case of Porubek, they are vital to next seasons success. It will also suck if they can't travel with the team.

I haven't been in it, but it looked like a middle school multi use gym on TV.  Is there a reason why you like it?  I assume you've been in it.

i don't understand how  we lost that one dude who was like championship caliber.   now we got this lady who gets swept at home by the lowly hawks.  it's completely embarrassing and should never happen.

Cheesy Mustache QB might make an appearance.
