Title: Anyone Roadtripping to Nashville in September?
Post by: WisconsinCatFan on March 16, 2017, 12:42:18 AM
Just curious if anyone was road tripping to see the cats destroy Vanderbilt in Nashville? Bought tickets today and trying to figure out where people may be staying, what to do, any info on tailgates. Have only traveled for one bowl game (schedule was prepped well by kstate athletics) but trying to make this trip fun and full of as much purple as possible!

if you want a football trip that is full of as much purple as possible, come to a home game. just enjoy Nashville, and don't care about anything K-State except for the game.

If you spend some time in the area a few hours east is Great Smoky Mountains National Park (and incredibly weird and kitschy Pigeon Forge and Sevierville).

If you're interested in a bunch of Elvis Presley's crap (or even Taylor Swift's) you can find some in the Country Music Hall of Fame.

Any Dollywood pro tips?
If you're going on the weekend, the traffic around Sevierville/Pigeon Forge (Dollywood area) is awful. If you have the flexibility to go during the week, it's much more enjoyable.

The Gatlinburg area suffered a horrible wildfire a few months ago. It destroyed a lot of cabins. If you wanted to go there, you'd probably want to make reservations in advance (b/c of the lower availability).

I don't live there, so I'm not sure of the answer. Here's a thread with a lot of Nashville residents that post in it:

I would also try signing up and starting a thread on http://www.volnation.com/forum/ (http://www.volnation.com/forum/). A lot of posters on there live in the midstate.

When that movie and song were released I lived in northeast Oklahoma City, near Martin Luther King Ave. before it was Martin Luther King Ave. My house and all of my friends houses had moms rocking 9 to 5. I probably saw that movie half a dozen times as a kid. Sorry guys but black people in the 80's appropriated the crap out of Dolly.

I feel like I'm too old for airbnb

age has nothing to do with it. I am looking for lofts around the honky tonk bars downtown and I've even found some that have a lockbox or keypad entry so you don't have to set up a meet up to get a key and a check out.

I was in Nashville in Sept and can confirm there are tons of new condos built and under construction within walking distance of Broadway.

I was there for work and did not stay out late at all but must say if looks like it lives up to the Nashvegas rep - the lines for at least 4 or 5 of the giant bars on Broadway were dozens of people deep by 10 pm on a Thursday and every place with a patio or deck in East Nashville I drove by on my scenic route back to the Opryland Hotel (do not stay here for game) was packed!

I enjoyed it when I went several years ago. The night I went, it was open mic night. The writer's night on Sunday would probably also be good.

Tootsie's was the other place where I went. They had a small stage in the front and a larger one in the back.

Both night were weekday nights, and it was still a blast. Lots of great musicians at Tootsie's.

Exit/In is another place you might consider for live music. It's been there forever.

I somehow came across early Outkast CD's and a Too $hort CD and wearing them out. Bone was definitely big in my hometown too and I still remember the moment someone let me listen to his Chronic tape.

the alumni association will probably have something but you have to pay for it.

powercat gameday is setting up at a bar like 5 miles from the stadium.

Looks like Alumni Assoc. is hosting a party 2 blocks from Stadium. $50 ticket gets full buffet & 2 drink tickets, + cash bar. They require advance RSVP prior to 9/7.

https://www.k-state.com/alumni/calendar/index.php?eID=263

the one for the Stanford game last year wasn't bad, but it was cheaper and unlimited booze drinks.

Hi All, I actually have 5 tickets now available for the Vandy game.  Something came up that's family related that's preventing us from going.  Wasn't sure if there was a ticket thread to comment about these or if this thread would suffice as well?
4 of the tickets are all together in the same row, south corner end zone, and then one ticket that's the same row but 5 seats down.
Looking to sell them for $30 a ticket; that's what I bought them for.
If interested send me a message and we'll go from there.
Thanks.

horrid stadium, only tailgating was in a Holiday Inn parking lot. only one real jumbo tron, and a super pud one. everything surrounding that game sucked. Literally nothing endearing about that stadium or atmosphere around that stadium.

Nashville the city on the other hand is amazing.

The stadium ran out of food....in the second quarter. No pizza, no nachos, no pretzels....just hot dogs.

No crap, here I thought us going in like 1.5 hours before the game was early AF, but it still took us like 20 minutes to get to our seats. I couldnt imagine if we waited until like a half or so, probably wouldve missed the entire first quarter

Also, it made me laugh that they had a PA about evacuating the stadium, as if we'd be able to leave there in any reasonable time frame.

Since no Vandy fans have come to our board to give us an tips about where to eat/what to do I'll pass some info along from my buddy who is a big shot in the country music business and lives in North Nashville.

1. Travel in groups around the stadium after dark. Apparently the area around Vanderbuilt is super sketchy and its not safe after the sun goes down.

2. There are no bar area's around the campus. Closest place to get a drink is downtown off broadway.

3. Vanderbuilt is a commuter school with no real fan base in Nashville, its basically the safety school for middle class kids from the burbs who can't get into UT.

fyi this is all fake news sad advice and you don't need an apostrophe in "areas"
Well I guess it all comes down to who you believe more, some random internet blogger named mocat or a big time country music executive who lives in Nashville. Choice is yours kat fans.

benj were you being serious with the response or just gEing?

LOL at hayseed mocat thinking a bar at the Holiday inn counts as "Hipsterville USA". I got an Uber after the game and he told us it's a good thing we didn't wander any further or we might of died.

canco that the kung foo bar was pretty rough ridin' fun. that would've been a trek to the stadium though. were there any actual fun bars close to the stadium they all seemed to be at least a mile away

double dogs
sportsmans grill
kay bob's
pizza perfect
villager tavern

were all across the street from campus. less than a mile from the stadium.

sportsman's grill was lol after the game. hostess told us to go upstairs to the bar. people were smoking indoors like it was 1995 or something. a real step back in time when you visit the south i guess.

my main point is that there were tons of bars and it was not dangerous and benji's friend might be just future southern version of wackycat

this is the same story almost everyone is saying, my group included. only time we ate was one night at Party Fowl and one brunch. It really was just a ton of booze.

can't imagine that drive home.  the 1:15 flight seemed like it took forever.  instead of vandy coming to mhk, we should just go there again, that was a lot of fun

Yes, 1013 12th Ave south. Were you somewhere near?

Also did you possibly order a lyft around 5 or 530 from the condo's off Archer St? Because my buddy ordered a lift, it was like .5 miles away, then it canceled on us. Same car went across the street and a large group of great smelling cat fans walked out and got in the car while we watched. Then they charged him a $15 cancellation fee

I was.........there. Exact same address. :surprise:

Not on the roof, though. I showed up the afternoon of the game like 30 minutes before everyone piled into Ubers to head to the stadium. There were a lot of people in the living room. Some friends were Titan'ing up. The Florida-Tennessee game was on TV. I used the bathroom. One friend had a very K-State0 Willie hat that is super lol. CAN'T BELIEVE WE COULD'VE PAK'D AND BEEN TALKING ABOUT WEIRD EMAILS FROM OUR DADS.

.......do you have a wife who went to a school in the midwest/rust belt'y area that isn't in Kansas? If so you guys are an adorbs couple and how boring was our Uber driver??

Wowzers, SkinnyBenny and ben ji were partying in the same room for about 30 minutes and didn't even know it. I do remember a small group of friends of friends joining us right before we left, I might of introduced myself and then when you gave your name I was probably like "Well, I'll probably forget it since I just met 10 other people today wearing purple but GO KATZ". Definitely should have introduced yourself as SkinnyBenny

I do not have a wife and my GF is a tater and we took the last uber since we had to lock the place up. So close to knowing skinnybenny's true identity yet so far.

Anyways it was a pleasure to have you to our humble abode and I think we can both say we are just happy mocat didn't die in a blaze of gunfire and drug needles while tailgating near campus.
