Jerome Tang Coaches Kansas State Basketball / Duderometer
« on: March 25, 2022, 10:39:49 PM »
I need someone more creative than me to create a Duderometer.  The Duderometer will allow us to properly measure the quality of dudes we currently have, dudes we are prospecting, dudes of future and dudes of past.

To get an idea how this scale is weighted, I’ve provided a list of dudes and a rough placement on the Duderometer scale.

Jacob Pullen — highest figure on the Duderometer
Dom Sutton — 80% of the of the highest Duderometer figure
Nigel Pack — 70% dude but steadily climbing
Will Spradling — does not qualify
Martavious Irving — 65% dude, 64.9% of which came from dance moves in a hallway
Wally Judge — 10% dude
Jason Bennet — 3% dude

I think you all get the point.  I look forward to seeing an official Duderometer in short time.

I would be forever grateful if someone compiled a nice summary of meltdown comments from ISU, OU, and UT message boards.

Good morning gE Moms, Dads, and parental Guardians.

It is pretty obvious that school districts are all over the place on what the fall semester will look like for K-12 across the US.  Unfortunately the administration and Betsy DeVos are worthless, so the school districts have little to no guidance on the best path to move forward.

Outside of selfishly wanting my kids out of the house, I continue to debate the safety of them and their teachers.  How much of a cluster-eff is it going to be?

I'm debating homeschooling for the first semester.  My oldest will be in Kindergarten, so I'm sure it's quite different than homeschooling a 5th grader (for example).  I've even heard some parents talk about a one-room homeschooling model with neighborhood kids.

What is everyone else is thinking or planning?

I hate seeing that teachers and faculty will be forced into a situation of teaching in-person during a pandemic.  We all know teachers are already vastly underpaid.  I've also wondered if we will see older teachers retire early and others resign.  gE teachers....thoughts?  How difficult will it be to keep masks on kids for 8 hrs a day?

Just in case, we converted our toy room into a classroom.

I’m pumped for Chris Klieman and his coaching staff.  Obviously excited as to where we will land for a bowl, but already looking forward to next year’s team.

This is also the best time to wear Cats gear in the KC area.  All other area teams suck or did not meet expectations.

We could finish the year at 9-4 and ranked in the top 25!

Is the strongest conference.  Even KU lays the hammer on P5 teams on the road.  Convince me otherwise.

We had a Kobach thread, so I figured I would start a thread for what will probably be Kobach's biggest competitor for Governor.

Thoughts on Orman?

Seems to be left on social topics and right fiscally.  I think he has a decent chance.

That tonight is the Championship between two SEC teams.  I'll probably knock off some of those honey-do's and play with the kids.

The New Joe Montgomery Birther Pit / 610 Sports Drops KU
« on: July 25, 2017, 05:33:43 PM »
http://www.610sports.com/articles/ku-games-no-longer-610-sports-radio

After an 18 year partnership, 610 Sports Radio will no longer be the play-by-play home for KU Athletics.  KU’s desire to be the primary focus of the radio station would have compromised our commitment to the extensive partnership we have with Major League Baseball in Kansas City.  That wasn’t something we were willing to accommodate.

While we will no longer be the play-by-play home, this opportunity provides more flexibility to provide even better KU coverage in certain ways.  We thank KU Athletics for a phenomenal run and wish them success going forward.

Essentially Flyertalk / Class Reunions
« on: August 12, 2014, 03:35:27 PM »
Did you go to your 10-year reunion?  Did you or will you be going to your 20-year reunion?

Seems like social media might be killing class reunions.  I've had some friends that recently attended their 10-year reunion and only had 30 or so attendees (including spouses) out of a graduation class of 150+.

It's easy to keep up with old classmates from Facebook.  If you already know what they are doing in their life from social media and have no intention of strengthening that relationship, why is it necessary to go to a reunion?

I will be attending a reunion soon and unfortunately had to help plan it.  I'm kind of excited to catch up with people I haven't seen in a long time, but if the turnout is horrible (i.e. 1/3rd or less show up) I have no intention of helping out with a future reunion.  I can only assume attendance gets worse every 10-years and I did not graduate with a large class.

Hey all! If you haven't heard....a recent bake sale for raising funds for our beloved Athletic Department was a huge success!  If you weren't part of this fudge filled fundraiser...no need to panic!  There will be plenty more to look forward to (we need that limestone wall after all)!

What will YOU be bringing to the next bake sale?

Me personally....I will be bringing my applesauce brownies! Classic family recipe!

Essentially Flyertalk / Bullies, Bullying, and the Bullied
« on: November 06, 2013, 03:22:19 PM »
I thought this subject needed its own thread.  If there is one out there please merge.

Were you picked on as a kid (or now)?  Were you the bully?

Hot topic in our culture today.  You see news about kids committing suicide from getting heckled or bullied online, in class, etc.  Bullying awareness has seemed to grow in the past few years with shows like Glee bringing high attention to the subject.  Kevin Keitzman was bullied at his workplace, Incognito was being a bully at his workplace.

What are everyone's thoughts on the subject?

I saw this FB status on my feed yesterday:
Quote
So tired of hearing about bulleying and this whole deal with Jonathan martin your a grown man stand up and deal with it like a man!!! And as far as bullying is concerned as awhole just makes me think about how soft americans are nowadays just like warm butter...what ever happened to standing up for yourself and making a stand if you get your ass kick you get it kicked but at least your making a stand...if this offends anyone delete me but its embarrassing that kids can't stand up for themselves nowadays and how our society just wants to sit there and make excuse after excuse. Parents teach your children to stand up for themselves....thank you and have a great day

How far is too far?  How do we teach the new generation to stand up for themselves and others when it has gone too far?  How do we as adults intervene when we see it at work or as a teacher?  How do we ensure the environment provides a safe haven for those to go when they need to report a bully?

Some of the responses to that FB status were mixed:

Quote
And people wonder why me and my daughter play fight! Always saying she is a girl she don't need to do that. Well she is a girl and she will stand up for herself when that day comes
Quote
The problem with kids who bully is that it's learned behavior for the most part- the parents encourage it. It's sad and an excellent example of bad parenting. Victims are also taught to be victims- I wasn't ever in a position to really need to stand up to a bully but I was taught to be a hard target. Which is what I'll teach my son along with self defense.
Quote
I agree that parents should teach their kids to stand up for themselves, but I also think the same needs to be said about teaching your children to care about others and treat others with respect.

Thoughts on the subject?

Sorry if Luked....but I find this to be extremely white trashy and disgusting:

A rivalry is one thing, but celebrating a massacre that happened 150 years ago just seems wrong.

Congrats to our guys for having a season to be proud of.  Did we win it all?  No.  We played ok the entire this season. Will Klein win Heisman.  Lol No.  Will LBCBS win Coach of the Year.......No chance Old Balls......but we did ok.  Hopefully we can win the Big 12.  Likely though Bennett will continue to scheme our ass with lightning bolts.  guys....this season exceeded our expectations by a good 3 losses.   Don't be disappointed.  Hug everyone and be thankful for having a team made up of Jucos that can perform this well.  Just remember:  @DSams is our future

ST. LOUIS -- A St. Louis County man is accused of killing his uncle in a dispute over pork steaks.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that 43-year-old John Cunningham of Jennings is charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action in the death of his uncle, 44-year-old Lessie Lowe.

The shooting happened during an argument early Monday. Police say the men were arguing over whether the cuts of meat they were planning to cook were pork steaks or pork chops. Cunningham said they were pork steaks, but Lowe disagreed.

Police say the argument became physical and the two had to be separated by someone else in the house. Cunningham then allegedly retrieved a shotgun and shot Lowe, who died later at a hospital.

Can we replace KU with Louisville and still stay at 10?  KU really brings this conference down.  Hard to support little bro when all they do is let you down.   :sdeek:

P.S. feel free to move this to cigars thread.
